This report outlines outcomes and achievements of the Study Abroad Office at IUPUI regarding:
• Enrollment in Study Abroad• Programs in Study Abroad• Honors & Awards• Faculty & Staff Service to Study Abroad Efforts
The participation data presented are primarily from the 2014-15academic year due to the delayed nature of study abroad reporting.
Data is the most current available and is primarily compiled for the Institute Open Doors Report, allowing for direct comparison to national trends.*
*Per Open Doors reporting, study abroad is defined as travel outside the U.S. for academic credit only. Non-credit travel and international students are not included in data for Open Doors, though may be included in future years of this report.

IUPUI completed a White Paper exploring the
expansion and enhancement of study abroad at IUPUI.
Key Findings of White Paper
• Students need more financial support• 78% used personal savings to cover all or
part of program expenses
• 50% received NO scholarship support
• Program leaders need more support and deserve more recognition• 22% receive no salary
• 18% financially subsidize their programs
• Fragile foundation for study abroad
• Need more robust data management capabilities

Key Recommendations of White Paper
• Develop a planning scholarship for underrepresented students
• Develop a Peer Ambassador Program• Ensure study abroad is integrated into
curricula across campus, including general education core and major/minor requirements
• Incentivize faculty to lead and create study abroad programs
• Improve the existing data management system to allow for strategic decision making

Future Initiatives 2016-2017
• The Peer Ambassador program will launch to connect returned study abroad participants with students across campus.
• A Pilot Planning Scholarship is in development which will give students larger scholarships well in advance of their desired study abroad experience so that they can better plan for their financial needs.
