President’s Message

As we embark on the very historic New Year you may ask yourself

why I think that it is so historic. This is the 60th Anniversary of the greatest car club in existence, and I am fortu-nate enough to have the privilege to be involved in the planning of the celebration. We have put togeth-er a wonderful and dedicated committee who has already been working for six months with the planning of a three day event in June. Our Committee Chair, Larry Cook, along with the commit-tee Norma France, Barbara Endliss, Dorothy Smith, Arlene Cook, Phil Endliss, Paul Petach and our Financial Chair Howard Smith. Our club owes this group a huge “Thank You” for volunteering their time.

This is one of those events that you most certainly do not want to miss!!

The election results are in for our Directors. They are as follows: President Richard Halk, Second Vice President Dorothy Smith, Treasurer Phil Endliss and Director at Large George Barry. With the election of Dorothy Smith to Vice President we have a vacancy of her Director at Large position which will be filled by appoint-ment and approval of the board at our January board meeting. Lew Edwards is leaving the board, after I don’t know how many years in various positions. I do know that I have been on the board for four years and he was there at least two more. On a personal note I will miss his presence, he has generously given me advice since the day I appeared on the scene. Dick France, Roger Colton and Lew Edwards were always there to keep me in line when I would get a great idea that maybe wasn’t a good idea and I’m sure kept me from embarrassing myself. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

DID I HAPPEN TO MENTION THAT WE ARE HAV-ING A HUGE EVENT IN JUNE 2015??? “BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!!!!!” (That’s from the 60s)

See You On The RoadRichard Halk, President, Editor

Happy 2015!!!

Dead Fish in JanuaryJanuary 18

Well it all makes perfect sense; you wouldn’t want to eat a live fish. From what I un-

derstand this restaurant is famous. Sis Stein has arranged for a lunch in January on the 18th to be specific at 12:30 P.M. our menu is Dungenes Crab legs, Boneless short ribs, Salmon or Crab lasagna. Lunch will includes, salad, dessert (tira-misu), coffee or tea. The price for lunch is $47.00 per person and includes tax and tip. The Loca-tion is 20050 San Pablo Ave. Crockett, CA. Their phone number is 510-787-3323. If you have any questions contact Sis at 925-820-1092. This is a convenient location and should be a great way to kick off the new year of events.

English Concours

In September 2014 we were in England touring in a private auto, with Mike, the driver. He seemed to know all the back roads

between our intended visits to mansions, cathedrals, castles and other historic sites. We drove a total of about 1900 miles from Lon-don’s Heathrow Airport up through Northumberland, followed by Hadrian’s Wall for many miles, and returned through the York-shire Dales and Lake District. Since our driver had a “disabled” sticker, he was able to get close to entrances and most of the time avoided charges for parking.

On the fourth day of driving we were in the village of Long Mil-ford, Suffolk, to visit a stately home. As we approached we spotted a signpost for an auto show, and it turned out to be for our favorite English vehicle. Mike was a car lover too, so instead of going into the home, we toured the lovely cars on display! Most were saloons from over the years; some had various accessories including picnic set-ups in the backs of the front seats. We had a stimulating con-versation with the chairman who told us how the group works, similar to ours, with rallies, tour, etc. He said they were the world’s oldest Jaguar club; he was surprised when we told him that J.A.G. is the oldest (too bad we had nothing with us to substantiate this). We didn’t pursue the subject, but just enjoyed the conversations on this beautiful day in the countryside in England.

Valentines DinnerDon Giovani Restaurant

235 Castro Street, Mountain View, CA650-961-9749

February 7, at 6 P.M.

It is time for our annual Valentines Dinner but it seems that the economy is doing better and there are no dates left for the event

at most of the venues So we are having our “Not Valentines Dinner” on the February 7. For those of you in the south bay it should be convenient and those of you in Placerville should have bought stock in Chevron. Be sure and mark your calendar; Don Giovani’s always has great food and good wine—and of course lively conversations. The cost will be forty seven dollars per person and we will have our choice of four different dinners from the menu. We do not have to order ahead; soup or salad and coffee are included.

Bernie and Sis Stein are our hosts and anyone who has attended one of their events knows that they never do it half way. (How’s that for pressure!)

Christmas Dinner GalaHosted by Chuck and Sandy Imperatori

As I went to get in my truck to head to the Christmas Dinner I discovered that some fool had left the address for the El Ran-

cho Inn in Millbrae out of the JAGazette. My stupid GPS (see GPS story on page 16) didn’t know either so I go back into my house and look it up on the computer, so I was amazed that anyone else was there but grateful that we have highly intelligent members. I probably read the JAGazette four or five time before sending it to the printer so I think that it was sabotage or something. (smile)

We had a little smaller group this year but everybody seemed to have a good time. The food was spectacular and the Gary Chupa Band was great as usual. I’m sure that the children from Ronald Mc Donald House will be thrilled with the stuffed toys and the race car. A special thank you to Al and Faith Hastings for setting up and taking care of the toy drive for Ronald Mc Donald House; they also deliver the toys to them. For many years the table deco-rations that we use for the Christmas dinner have been designed and made by Sandy Imperatori who is an artist in her own rite and I understand that she does beautiful paintings as well. Thank you Sandy!!

Those in attendance were: Event Host Chuck and Sandy Imper-atori, Al and Faith Hastings, Past President John Thompson and Fran, Active Life Member, Director at Large, George Barry and Andrea, Treasurer, Phil Endliss and Barbara, Kris Carey and Kat-erina Avila, Active Life Member, Secretary Norma France and her guest David France, Active Life Member, First Vice President Sis Stein and Bernie, His Honor Roy and Rose Swearingen, Lorraine Blackburn, Active Life Member Lew and Faye Edwards, Bill and Teri Hicks, Active Life Member Larry and Arlene Cook, Ken and Carol Hankemeyer, Photo Editor Roland Quintero and Jeanne Ra-mos, Jim and Mary Christian, Ballot Chair Jim and Jacque Ding-er, Active Life Member Roger and Laurie Colton, Lee and Diane McLaughlin, and new members Michael and Lizzie Adams, Todd and Alison Hay and yours truly, President, Editor Richard Halk; the lovely Liz Hansen (My first lady) was not able to attend and sent her regrets.

Your new Board Of Directors for the year 2015 are as follows: President Richard Halk, First Vice President Sis Stein, Second Vice President Dorothy Smith, Treasurer Phil Endliss, Secretary Norma France, Directors at Large George Barry, Les Hamilton and one vacancy that will be appointed at our January board meeting.

All in all it was a terrific event and I would like to thank every-body who attended and we will see you next year.

Richard Halk, President, Editor

New Members DinnerMarch 21, 2015, 6 P.M.

Frankie, Johnnie and Luigi Too, Dublin

The title “New Members Dinner” may be deceiving, what it is really for is for the new members to rub elbows with the great

members of our club who have been around awhile. I would en-courage the older members to attend, I have recently had the op-portunity to meet a few of the new members and the future of our club looks bright. I have been in the club for ten years and I am always amazed at the friendship and loyalty that the Jaguar Associ-ate Group members possess.

The dinner is being held at Frankie, Johnnie and Luigi Too! res-taurant, 11891 Dublin Blvd., Dublin, 925-828-9380. Robert Krantz Wins 1st in Class at Danville

Here are a couple of pictures from last Sunday’s Dan-

ville Concours D’Elegance event in downtown Danville. My Jag-uar won 1st in its class (non sports models 1950-1980) at the show. It’s a wonderful event. All proceeds go to Parkinson’s Disease research. It was a lot of fun with all sorts of amazing cars there. I have had the Jag in two other car shows this summer and also won 1st in class in those shows, but the Danville show is the biggest and nicest show…and for a good cause.

Robert Krantz

Congratulations Rob!!!

Ground Positioning System

About ten years ago my brother bought me a GPS for my birth-day, the latest electronic toy out there; I didn’t quite know

what to do with it. So my brother being a good brother mustered up some patience for me and explained. He is my older brother so a certain amount of respect is expected.

So I set out to have a relationship to my new toy. After several trips I began to find myself quite dependent on this GPS who by coincidence had a female’s voice. We would drive along and occa-sionally she would give me direction such as “you need to be in the right lane, your turn off is in one mile,” however the traffic would be heavy not allowing me to get over and she would say “make a legal u-turn when possible” all the time being very polite.

Then I started noticing that occasionally she would have me take a different route that seemed to be a little bit longer. Once when returning from Quincy and going into Paradise I ended up on the most god awful gravel road and I think she knew that I was driving a Jaguar. On another trip, Liz and I were going to Forest Hill and we were sent down a forest service road having to dodge boulders and downed trees -yes I think she was jealous.

I believe that the time has come to replace my GPS--the rela-tionship has been going on for about ten years and now I hear things like “you missed your turn and we have really got to talk” or “didn’t I tell you to make the turn” or “you never listen to me, OK what did I say”. Perhaps the manufacturer should put a warning label on the GPS’s that tells you there is a life expectancy to their product or counseling may be required. Maybe I will get one that has a man’s voice or perhaps the French girl (although I wouldn’t know what she was saying and probably wouldn’t care) I under-stand that European women are more understanding but that may be a myth.

Perhaps we can get counseling and save the relationship but that could cost thousands and a new GPS is quite a bit less.

Page 20 F-Types Gather

F-Type December DriveA group of us Bay Area F-Type owners from the Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum got together yes-

terday for a cruise from Menlo Park over to Half Moon Bay for lunch...10 owners signed up and everyone showed up so we had 10 F-Types cruising the coast...we made quite a statement and I believe in talking with everyone that at least 8 of us are first-time Jaguar owners!

There’s a short video and I’ll include a few of my pictures...great time

Happy Holidays everyone and hope to see everyone next year.
