An advertisement showing a healthy South African white woman feeding a black boy like a dog has sparked online criticism. The ad by NGO Feed a Child ends with the line, “The average dog eats better than millions of children.”But for many South Africans, the ad has struck outrage rather than sympathy. ENCA, a South African TV broadcaster, says the original video received more than 20,000 views before Feed a Child removed it from YouTube to replace it with an edited version that carries an explanation from its creator. “Feed a Child’s most recent TV commercial is based on the shocking societal truth - many domestic animals in this country are better fed than a lot of children. The commercial is intentionally emotive to trigger the necessary awareness on this issue to generate engagement and contributions. There was no intention to cause offence,” read the explanation. Many took to Twitter to express criticism of the video.Ifemanisi@khanyisile: “Are child-as-dog ads the new fly-infested-face-from Africa ads? No context, just degradation and white saviourism. We see you”Elsewhere, a children’s clothing line is under fire after a T-shirt featuring a monkey’s body was seen paired with the face of an African-American boy.The controversial combination seen in a photo uploaded on Twitter has generated outrage, prompting a quick defense by the company, Just Add A Kid. The firm is chalking it up as “a total misunderstanding.”

wide rallies they claimed were to record Kenyans’ views on matters of national interest. They have also been pushing for national dialogue with the Govern-ment. The push culminated in the controversial Saba Saba rally held

at Uhuru Park grounds on July 7 during which the push for nation-al dialogue was abandoned and replaced with calls for a referendum. In days preceding the rally, there was tension over a possible break-out of chaos similar to what was witnessed during the disputed

presidential polls in 2007. Many scared Kenyans fled towns back to rural homes.Meanwhile, clan feuds have claimed the lives of more than 60 people in Wajir and Mandera counties while banditry attacks led to the deaths of scores others in Baringo.

“The very structure of a country, even a healthy one, can be chal-lenged by overwhelming events during the course of a year - and the consequences inform not only the legitimacy of the state, but also the experiences of its citizens, often for decades to come,” read part of a

report attached to the ranking. It warned leaders to tread carefully saying some decisions could have disastrous consequences.“The index shows how, within a relatively short time frame, the promise of nascent democracies can quickly unravel,” the report says.

Another attack has been reported in Lamu County after gunmen torched houses and robbed police reservists of six firearms. The thugs also vandalised a dispensary before escaping. No casualties have been reported

from the 3am Friday attack. The raid is the third in the area in less than a week during which more than 28 people have been killed. The attacks have occurred despite a heavy presence of security officers in the county following the deploy-

ment of the officers since the first attack that claimed more than 60 lives in Mpeketoni last month.Deputy Inspector General of Police Samuel Arachi, who is leading se-curity operations at the county, was expected to visit the area today.

The attackers stormed a mosque where some men and reservists were praying and ordered them to surrender firearms in the latest raid.“They warned that the reservists risked being shot if they disobeyed the order,” a resident said.

Lamu County Commissioner Miiri Njenga said several houses were torched but authorities are yet to confirm if there were casualties. He said police and KDF soldiers have been deployed to the area to hunt down the attackers.

state business: President uhuru Kenyatta chairs a past Cabinet meeting. the Government yesterday passed a number of resolutions, including to sack managers of poorly-performing state corporations.

FRIDAY, julY 11, 2014NEWS

The Supreme Court’s reversal of a Court of Appeal ruling that nullified the election of Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adan has renewed the hopes of other county chiefs whose fates still lie with

the court. Governors Evans Kidero (Nairobi) and Okoth Obado (Migori) both have appeal cases pending at the Supreme Court and are hop-ing that they receive a ruling similar to that delivered for

their Garissa counterpart on Wednesday. The three had their elections upheld by the High Court before the Court of Appeal nullified them. But in their ruling yesterday,

Supreme Court judges urged the courts hearing such peti-tions to exercise due diligence and observe the electoral law to avoid a lot of expenses and wastage of public resources. It is from these that the two

governors hope the highest court in the land will find the Appellate Court to have erred and reverse the nullification of their elections.Appeal court judges had ruled that there were irregu-

larities during the election of Mr Nathif Jama and that they affected the election outcome.Opponents of both Dr Kidero and Mr Obado also have similar arguments.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Monday that the United Nations will recognise all same-sex marriages of staff members at the world body.Previously, a staff mem-ber’s personal status was determined by the laws of their country of national-ity, said UN spokesperson Farhan Haq. But now the United Nations will recog-nise all same-sex couples married in a country where it is legal, regardless of their nationality.“The Secretary-General said human rights are at the core of the mission of the UN,” Haq said. “He’s proud to stand for greater equality for all staff. He also calls on all members of the UN to unite in rejecting homophobia.”

Nearly 80 per cent of all the software in Kenya is unlicensed. Despite efforts by Microsoft and the Kenya Copyrights Board, the level of piracy has been the same for almost seven years now, a new study has shown. The study by Global Survey says in 2013, 78 per cent of software installed in personal computers in Kenya is counterfeit. The study put the commercial value of unlicensed software in Kenya at $128 million (Sh11 billion), five times the amount of money robbers and fraudsters steal from local banks every year. The study also says the rates of unlicensed software installations declined

slightly across the East and Southern Africa region from 2011 to 2013, but that of Kenya has remained the same.“Botswana declined one point to 79 percent; Zimbabwe declined one point to 91 percent; Zambia declined one point to 81 percent; and South Africa declined one point to 34 percent,” says the report.Despite the threats to software industry, only 35 per cent of companies across the world insist on use of licensed software. Victoria Espinel, President and CEO of The Software Alliance, a global software industry lobby, said software counterfeiters becoming more sophisticated.

The Cabinet yesterday approved a number of resolutions and measures, including directives to sack non-performing managers of State corporations. While approving the performance Contracting Evaluation Results of 2012/2013, Cabinet also directed both national and county government departments to buy more local products, and also resolved to encourage Kenyans to diversify their basic food. The cabinet noted that at least 40 per cent of parastatals had conisistently posted poor results and directed that managers of these State corporations be replaced by more competent people. Best performers will however be rewarded and motiovated. The other resolution reached by the Cabinet was to give more attention and budgetary allocation to the cultivation and promotion of consumption of traditional foods such as sorghum, millet, cassava, potatoes and bananas. This, they said, would help ease the pressure

on dwindling maize. State house gave its own example where most goods consumed are made by the prison industry. Also approved was the construction of the Southern Bypass which passes

within the boundary of the Nairobi National Park. The road will consume about 38 hectares of the Park.  However, the Park will be compensated on Hectare for Hectare.

“This road will ease congestion in the City Centre by re-routing city heavy commercials and other vehicles proceeding to Rift Valley and East African Countries,” the

cabinet argued. The Cabinet also noted that the implementation of public service vehicle regulations and digital speed limiters have achieved much of positive results and approved it. It

also directed that sustainable solutions be urgently developed to streamline and contain the boda-boda industry to enhance road safety especially those of passengers.

Setback as baby ‘cured’ of Aids tests positive again

Help us fight terror, and radicalisation, Uhuru tells envoysTerrorism and the radicalization of youth are the major challenges hindering national cohesion, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.Speaking when he hosted Muslim envoys from Africa, Asia and Middle East to an Iftar dinner at State House, yesterday evening, Mr Kenyatta stressed the need for unity among Kenyans as well as the international community to fight terrorism and youth radicalization, among other global crimes. “Youth being radicalised do not come from a particular community. No single nation can win this war. Nobody is safe but we can be safe only if we unite,” he said.He assured the envoys that the government is willing to work closely with them and other like-minded people in addressing insecurity challenges facing the country and the region.President Kenyatta welcomed the formation of a joint team of Muslim envoys and his Government to work out modalities to tackle challenges facing the country.Morocco Ambassador to Kenya Mr Abdelilah Benryane, who spoke on behalf of the other envoys, assured the President that their coming together was in realisation that the insecurity challenges in Kenya require unity of purpose and support. “I look forward to engaging with you not only during the holy month of Ramadhan but at all times to share ideas and experiences on tackling the issues at hand,” the President told the envoys. He said Kenya can learn from the countries represented by the, most of whom face challenges similar to those facing Kenya currently.

A Mississippi baby whom scientists said had been “functionally cured” of HIV now has detectable levels of the virus in her blood, her doctors say. This is just 27 months after the baby was off antiretroviral drugs.“Certainly, this is a disappointing turn of events for this young child, the medical staff involved in the child’s care, and the HIV/AIDS research community,” Dr Anthony Fauci said in a statement.

“Scientifically, this development reminds us that we still have much more to learn about the intricacies of HIV infection and where the virus hides in the body.”A day after delivery, the Mississippi baby was given high doses of three antiretroviral drugs. More than three years later, doctors said the little girl had no evidence of the life-threatening disease in her blood. The child was born to a mother who received no prenatal

care and was not diagnosed as HIV-positive herself until just before delivery. “We didn’t have the opportunity to treat the mom during the pregnancy as we would like to be able to do, to prevent transmission to the baby,” Dr Hannah Gay, a pediatric HIV specialist at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, said at the time.Doctors administered antiretroviral drugs 30 hours after the girl was born in hopes of controlling the virus, in

case she was infected. The virus was not detectable at the time. The child remained on antiretroviral drugs for approximately 18 months. Her mother then stopped administering the drugs for some reason, Gay said. In March 2013, researchers announced that the girl was the first child to be “functionally cured” of HIV. A “functional cure” is when the presence of the virus is so small, lifelong treatment is not necessary.

Farmers dump fish for million shilling seaweed farming

bizbriefHawkers sell at night to avoid askarisHawkers now know how to do their business in Nairobi without being bothered by county government askaris – they come in at night when the nasty fellows are fast asleep. The traders turn the city centre into one big street

market stretching as far as Kenyatta Avenue with ladies’ shoes, clothes, mobile phones covers, curtain holders, watches and jumpers, leather jackets vegetables and fruits, and food among the wares on offer. Business is brisk, es-

pecially on Moi Avenue, the hawkers favourite. Stephen Ndirangu, a mobile phone cover seller, says vendors come to the streets in the evening to cash in on the people leaving their offices.“During the day, we do not make money.”

Coast people who have been enduring dwindling returns from fish are now looking to seaweed as an alternative.Randa Mwanaharo is one of those who have taken up seaweed farming after seeing her income from fish take a nosedive. The 30-year-old single mother says seaweed farming, a venture that could earn the country Sh40 million a year and save thousands of jobs at the coast, has changed her fortunes for the better.Years of study by the Kenya

Marine and Fisheries Re-search Institute (KMFRI) on the commercial viability of seaweed farming has exposed a market potential that could place the country in the same league as Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar who have been supplying a global seaweed market for 20 years with an annual value of now $5 billion (Sh438 billion).“A model farm has 15,000 seedlings,” explains KMFRI Programme Co-ordinator. Betty Nyonje. “These are tied with strings on the seabed.”

From each model farm, one metric tonne of dry sea weed is harvested every six weeks, making eight to 10 harvests a year. A metric tonne of seaweed sells for Sh12,000.The first seaweed farm in Kenya was developed at Kibuyuni, a seaside village in Kilifi with 1,500 people. Other sites that followed suit include Mkwiro in Wasini Island, Funzi and Gazi.Extracts of dried seaweed are used as food thickener and also in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

Successful advertisements add up to 20 per cent in profits to any given business. For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), this could mean an extra Sh146, 000 a month, assuming a business generates the World Bank industry standard of Sh730, 000 over the same period.Robert Stammers, a famous Marketing Consultant and the author of ‘The Small Business Jobs Act: Make It Work for You’, says that even the most successful marketing campaigns add between 10 and 20 per cent in profits to a given business. He says advertising is about convincing one’s clients that they need something, even when they don’t.“Do you want a company to buy your product? Give them a presentation showing how it will benefit them,” he explains. “Do you want someone to use your service? Give them an estimate or a sample of what you will do for them.”

WIDE COVERAGE: Internet users at cyber cafe. Liquid Telecom has invested Sh4b to roll out internet connectivity projects in counties in the next two years.

Liquid Telecom Kenya (LTK), Africa’s leading data, voice and IP provider, is installing a $2 million (Sh175 million) fibre optic network in Siaya to give

rural Kenyans access to the internet. The move, the first its kind in rural Kenya, is part of the firm’s $50 million (Sh4 billion) investment plan

Liquid Telecom’s Sh175m internet cable to create jobs

in counties in the next two years to roll out internet connectivity projects. Through the Wide Area Network (WAN) concept, the internet will link the county headquarters, sub counties and wards with the central government. This will give Internet users in the county reliable and affordable access to local and global websites. The in-stallation process will create 50 new jobs with further roles being created to handle maintenance of fibre optics and wireless networks. The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) statistics released in 2014 say only about 20 million Ken-yans have access to Internet out of a population of about 41 million. However access in rural areas has locked out

rural businesses from a basic human right as defined by the UN.The Siaya project spells hope for other 40-plus counties in job creation since such projects require round-the-clock staff.“Rural Internet connectivity is rather poor in Kenya due to lack of infrastructure,” said Nic Rudnick, Liquid Telecom Group CEO during the announcement. “What LTK primarily seeks to achieve in the partnership with the Siaya government is open up the county to new opportuni-ties and improve government functionality.” In Kenya Internet connectiv-ity contributes to 2.9 per cent of Kenya’s Gross Domestic Product (the value of goods and services a country pro-duces in a year).

Make up should enhance one’s ap-pearance and not make a scarecrow out of the wearer. Heavy make-up does not make you look beautiful. Less is always more and with the right techniques, make up will make you shine. Here are a few tips on how to use it and look beautiful. Choose the right foundation Foundation is supposed to create a perfectly smooth and toned com-plexion that covers up imperfections. This is why you should always choose a foundation that matches your skin tone. The foundation should blend seamlessly with your skin without revealing lines that show where you have used it.

Liquid foundation is a good bet as it gives one a more natural look as compared to powder. Don’t use too much mascara Mascara is every woman’s best friend. It is used to enhance and open up the eyes while adding volume to the lashes. Too much mascara gives eyelashes a clumpy look. Apply only two coats to give you that natural look. Be careful with the eye-linerTo avoid missing your mark when drawing on that cat’s eye look, use a brown pencil to lightly draw a line then trace against it with your eyeliner. This way, you will not go off course and your eyes will not look like a six-year-old’s colouring book.

Showering is an essential part of a healthy routine but depending on the water temperature and the time spent in the bathroom it can offer different benefits. Cold showers are one of the greatest anti-ageing secrets for keeping the skin tight, elastic and radiant. Taking warm showers or baths opens up the pores leaving the heat from the water to wash away the skin’s natural oils, leaving it dry.

The body tries to compensate for this by either producing more oil. The body’s natural oil is always be better than any moisturizer, which only keeps the body saturated for a period of time thus the skin will be dry for the other period.Dry skin gets itchy, cracked and forms wrinkles. This can lead to conditions like eczema. Hot showers also cause the pores to become easily clogged by dirt and oil, which cause skin

imperfections such as acne. A cold shower on the other hand, keeps the pores tightly closed, keeping the oils locked in. It also increases blood circulation, which flushes out toxins from the body resulting in improved skin tone and smoothness. Cold water also makes the blood vessels constrict, reducing swelling and the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

Pimp up that casual look with a pair of sunglasses. Whether your are relaxing on a sunbed after a cool dip on a sunny day, driving around or attending a sports event, sunglasses will give you that cool look.Sunglasses are designed to shield the eyes against the sun’s sharp rays or high-energy visible light. It is important to protect your eyes in order to avoid discomfort or damaged eyesight.Besides being a fashion accessory, med-ics recommend the use of sunglasses to prevent grave eye complications related to ultraviolet (UV) and blue light. One can use sunglasses to hide eye injuries or redness, avoid eye contact and con-ceal emotions.Sunglasses can also enhance boldness and inspire a certain level of confi-dence. However, they tend to intim-idate those who are not wearing any and make them feel uncomfortable, especially when they know that they can’t see your eyes. For whatever occasion, get your original designer sunglasses at Jumia Online. All their shades range from between Sh3,695 and Sh3,995.

Driving at night exposes one to vi-sion-related accidents or hijacking, among other risks. Even with powerful xenon head-lights and right focus and un-divid-ed attention for the one behind the wheel, there’s no way to illuminate the entire road ahead. To counter this challenge, a num-ber of high-end manufacturers, including Mercedes, Audi, and BMW, offer night-vision systems as options in their midrange and top-of-the-line models. Some project images onto a head-up display and some onto an LCD on an instrument panel or dash. The latest systems in use specifically call out pedestrians or obstacles that pose an imminent threat of colli-sion. The latest night-vision system from Mercedes, called “active night view assist plus,” not only detects people but also objects by shining nonvisible infrared light, like military-grade night-vision tech. Other systems rely on infrared generated from body heat. When a person is detected, the Mercedes system goes so far as to flash a spotlight on the pedestrian to warn of the oncoming car. It points out the person to the vehicle’s driver in case the highlighted silhouette on the night-vision display wasn’t enough. Meanwhile, the HID headlights will dip for five seconds to avoid

blinding the pedestrian. Audi’s version claims to be able to

detect a pedestrian more than 300m away.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has revealed that football’s governing body is considering ways to reju-venate the knock-out phases of the tournaments amidst fears that, with so much riding on results, teams (especially the well-drilled ‘lesser’ nations) are now prioritising ‘not losing’ above actually attempting to go for the win.It would appear that the various FIFA think-tanks have produced two possible solutions so far,

the first being the scrapping of extra-time altogether (and heading straight to penalties) and the second being the re-introduction of the golden goal rule which was scrapped in 2004. “We have to try to find a way to encourage free-flowing football in tourna-ments like the World Cup, with teams playing to win. We plan to take the opportunity to look at the concept of extra-time as well. The 2014 World Cup has seen innova-

tions such as goal line technology and vanishing spray introduced to football’s showpiece global event for the first time. France benefited from the use of goalline technology in their opening win over Honduras, and the spray has been welcomed as an aid to referees in keeping players back 10 yards at free-kicks near the penalty area. While those develop-ments appear set to stay, what other innovations have previous World Cups witnessed.

Will the World Cup trophy cross the Atlantic Ocean this time round?

Fifa mulls return of golden goal

THE MACHINE: GE Germany have the chance to be the first Europeans to win the World inSouth America.

On April 18, 2007, Lionel Messi embarked on a 60m slalom-ing run from Barcelona’s half, beating six Gefate players on the way to what is arguably the goal of his career. It was a replica of another effort against England at the 1986 World Cup by a certain Diego Maradona. Messi is now being spoken of in the same breath as the great man, who just like Messi, singlehandedly hauled a lumbering Argentina to the final. Messi just needs to lift the tro-phy at the Maracana on Sunday to be legend like his illustrious compatriot. While the Argentina captain is the only player to win four Ballon d’Ors to date, formerLiverpool striker Michael Owen believes that Messi must win the World Cup with Argentina to be regarded as the finest ever. Owen himself is no stranger to

scoring spectacular goals, as his World Cup debut in 1998 pro-duced one of the competition’s most memorable moments. The then 18-year-old skipped past several Argentina players to net for England, not unlike Messi. “I think lots of people believe that you have to perform at the World Cup and actually win it to be regarded as being up there with Maradona,” he said. “Maybe this is his time. He is at the peak of his career and Argentina have a good chance to win it. If they do then Messi will be regarded together with Maradona.” Despite being only 27, the Barca man has broken a string of records to date. He became the club’s all-time highest goal-scor-er at a tender age of 24. In 2012, he scored an astonishing 91 goals, thus breaking Gerd Muel-ler’s 40-year record.

The 2014 World Cup has come down to a final match between Germany and Argentina. The game will be played Sunday in Rio de Janeiro at 11 pm Kenyan time. But the question on every-one’s lips is: Will the world’s most coveted trophy cross the Atlantic Ocean for only the first time in its history?

The only two occasions the World Cup was won outside the host continent was in 1958 when Brazil beat hosts Sweden 5-2 in Solna, and in 2010 when Spain ledged the Netherlands 1-0 to lifted it in Johannesburg, South Africa. Europe has hosted the tournament 10 times since its inception in 1930 and on

nine occasions, the trophy remained on the continent. The Americas [North, South and Central] have hosted the competition on eight occasions and have never let it go.But the only remaining team from Europe, Germany is in top form and is favoured to win the Cup.  But if history is anything

to go by, the trophy should remain in South America. Hosts Brazil have scrapped through without their usual flare and now face their remaining opponents with-out their talisman Neymar Jnr. The 1-7 humiliation at the hands of Germany on Tuesday ended Brazil’s hunger to reclaim the title on home soil.

Louis Suarez is on the brink of officially completing his transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona after agreeing terms worth over Sh10.6b on Thursday. The agreement comes after a week of talks between the clubs. An announcement is expected in coming days - perhaps even in 24 hours. Barcelona have captured Suarez in a straight cash deal after agreeing to meet the release clause in the Liverpool contract he signed last December. It is believed Suarez will under-go initial a medical from Barca doctors in his native Uruguay, where he has been staying fol-lowing his country’s elimination from the World Cup. Officials from the Catalan club

have been negotiating with their counterparts from Mersey-side in the last week over the structure of payment. Liverpool have been pushing for a higher initial sum. But an agreement has been reached and the final formalities will be completed before Suarez is announced as Barcelona’s signing of the summer. The 27-year-old is serving a four-month ban, which runs to October 26, for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in an Uruguay shirt during a World Cup group stage match. Under the terms of the suspen-sion, Suarez is not allowed to train with his club or enter the confines of any stadium during the ban.

Nico Rosberg declared himself “100 per cent German” on Tuesday after Lewis Hamilton jokingly questioned his Mercedes team mate’s nationality ahead of next week’s German Grand Prix. Both Formula One drivers live in Monaco, but Britain’s Hamilton has become a resident only comparatively recently while Germany-born Rosberg has called it home for as long as he can remember. “To be honest Nico has never actually been in Germany, so it’s not really his home race,” Hamilton told reporters on Sunday after winning his home British race at Silverstone. Rosberg, whose Finnish

father, Keke, won the championship in 1982, refused to make an issue of the comments on the first day of testing at the English circuit on Tuesday. “What do you want me to say? Everybody can judge however they want,” he said.He said he was clearly not as German as Hamilton was English. “Not really because I didn’t grow up in Germany...But I consider myself 100 percent German.” Rosberg heads for Hockenheim next week with a four-point lead over Hamilton after a gearbox problem forced the German to retire at Silverstone while leading.

It’s all systems go for the 7th edition of the All Africa Uni-versity Games (AAUG) which get underway on Friday at the University of Nairobi grounds. AAUG Technical Director Sebas-tian Okech said all plans are set for the eight-day event that will

run from July 11 to 18.The event will see universities across Africa take part in 16 disciplines, including volleyball, rugby, taekwondo, karate, swim-ming, badminton, table tennis, handball, chess, athletics and America football.

“We want to host a successful event and that is why we had a committee has been meeting to ensure we put everything in or-der ahead of the event,” he said.Okech said local universities qualified for the games during the Kenya University Sports As-

sociation (KUSA) games staged in Meru County. The Federation of Africa Univer-sity Sports (FASU) was formed in 1971 and revived in 2004. This is a continental organisation responsible for organising and management of inter–university

sports competitions in Africa. FASU is affiliated to the world body responsible for sport in universities, the Federation of International University Sports (FISU).

Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra is ready to move to Italy.Evra, a France international, has been offered a two-year contract and is ready to leave Old Trafford after eight years even after signing a new deal in May. Evra’s hopes of first-team football appear remote in the looming season after the Sh3.2b capture of Luke Shaw from Southampton. Juventus are increasingly confident of tempting him to Italy. United triggered a clause in the 33-year-old’s contract in May to ensure he signed a new one-year deal but he looks set to join Juventus. Evra, who made 45 appearances in all compe-titions for United last season, is believed to be keen on a move to Turin and will be the fourth defender to leave United this summer. Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Alex But-tner have departed and Evra, a Sh660m signing from Monaco in January 2006, is poised to be next. Juventus are able to offer Evra Champions League football in the new season. He will leave United having won five Premier League titles, the Champions League and three League Cups. United remain interested in Arturo Vidal, the Juventus midfielder, and could grant Evra his wish in order to smooth future negotiations between the clubs. Vidal is rated around Sh3.8b and new United manager Louis van Gaal is considering an offer after initial inquiries.

This will be the last round matches. With all the teams equal on points, Saturday matches are must-wins for each team as the winners will qualify for finals slated for 19th July 2014 at Ruaraka Sports Club. All the matches will kick off at 9:30 AM.

Sánchez snubs Juve, Liverpool for Arsenal

Miami Heat President Pat Riley has had his chance at convincing LeBron James to stay in Miami. Riley met with the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player on Thursday afternoon in Las Vegas.James, his agent Rich Paul, Riley and Heat executive Andy Elisburg were at the meeting.James has not made a decision and will not make any an-nouncements before Saturday a person said, adding, “He wants to meet with his family.”So now, Miami waits. So does Cleveland. So, too, does just about the entire NBA

– because once James picks the Heat or the Cavaliers, the teams believed to be serious suitors for his services, the domino effect of other free agent moves will surely follow. The meeting in Las Vegas lasted for more than an hour and took place more than two weeks after James opted out of his contract and elected to become a free agent, and the day before free agents may begin signing contracts.James spent part of his day be-fore the meeting at his annual skills academy with some of the nation’s top high school and college players, interacting

and observing workouts. That was part of the reason why Riley had to fly across the country to make the meeting happen, with hopes that he would return to Miami from the gambling haven with a huge win – keeping James in Heat colours for at least anoth-er season.Cleveland or Miami, the same choice he pondered four years ago when he decided play with the Heat. With James, the Heat won four Eastern Conference titles and two NBA champi-onships.Cleveland created salary-cap space earlier Wednesday with a

three-team trade with the Bos-ton Celtics and Brooklyn Nets, ensuring they have enough to offer the James a maximum contract. But James had said he would meet with Riley and the Heat before making his decision. If James leaves, it’ll be more than a retooling project that awaits Miami.Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh – the other members of Miami’s “Big 3” of the past four seasons – are also free agents, and neither has given any hint as to what they will do, though it’s still expected Wade will not leave the Heat.
