Why the tram-train ?

• Advantages of the tram – Good urban insertion ;

– Low noise ;

– Allows passengers get off at urban level at crossings with traffic lights ;

– Optimized accessibility for persons with reduced mobility (low integrated floor ramp) without the need for complicated adjustment at the station ;

– Operating costs lower than trains.

• Advantages of the train – Higher speed than the tram (100 km/h compared to 70 km/h) ;

– More seats and more comfort ;

– Comfortable seats and facilities (TER seats, baggage compartments, toilets).

• Volume required : 24 trams (95,87 M€) 100% funded by the Region

• A complex, long and expensive operation, requiring a real political mobilization

• The tram-train has been a real plebiscite of the people concerned

• Encourage the emergence of a peri-urban eco-mobile dynamic to preserve the quality of life and financial accessability which is a major issue in the territory

• Relations urban planning – transport to strengthen and systematize : towards a contract ?

Some conclusions ?
