SITE Project 15

Ticketing contribution to high level objectives

Ticketing supports price or fare strategy aiming at

conciliating diverse objectives : eg

For the authority

- Increase the number of citizens using public

transport

- Set low prices and simple tariffs

- Balance prices and encourage social inclusion

- Minimise public subsidies or financial compensation

For the operator

- Cover costs and maximise revenue ( and/or profit )

- Build an attractive public transport system (image,

loyalty)

For the passenger

- Minimise transport cost

- Travelling in ‘good’ conditions , simple, easy

SITE Project 16

Smart ticketing in SITE cities 1- an opportunity for innovative services

Libertan post-payment in Nantes : • No money is put on the card, the number of validations are cumulated during

one month with a capping to the price of monthly fare , the users pays one month after through direct debit from his account.

• Systematic validation for post payment formula, on board buses only for the unlimited one

Pay as you go in Liverpool-Merseyside : • Money is put on the card, re-charge is made possible through the web .As

the fares are zonal, check in-check out validation is necessary

• Fair and easy for users, reinforcement of loyalty, harmonized access to different transport operators, less reliance on paper based products), cost effective and secure (lost or stolen cards can be blocked to avoid fraud).

SITE Project 17

Smart ticketing in SITE cities 1bis- an opportunity for innovative services

Progressive discounts in Donostia-San Sebatian

• Tariff system: trip prices with progressive discounts in order

increase to the monthly use of public transport.

• additional discounts for specific groups: retired, handicappers,

large families, young people and elderly people.

• Substitution of 200 000 mono operator chip card for intermodal

contact less card

• Pre paid card, systematic validation

and RENFE Inter-city buses LURRALDEBUS

Nantes Train to and form stations located within the urban transport

territory

SITE Project 20

Integrate other mobility services

Libertan Phase 2 in Nantes : host the access to

self service bikes, run by JC Decaux, to Car sharing service run by Europ Car, to P&R, and potentially to other private car parks

The Buga management in Aveiro Rethink and integrate the self service bike

SITE Project 21

Smart ticketing on new technologies for atlantic area

Smart ticketing does not only mean smart cards as a technical support to achieve integrated services and fares

Site partners investigated options which would enable citizens from the Atlantic area to easily accede to PT in their different cities

Mobile phones solutions seemed to be the most realistic within the project schedule

SITE Project 22

SITE cities mobile phone smart ticketing

M-tickets sold on mobile internet in Nantes since Nov 2012 for Iphone and Android environments. No dependency on communication operators nor on financial companies. 315 000 sold, 281 000 validated

1100 to 1200 daily validations

But no extension possible to other cities who required systematic validation

Emulation of smart card on NFC device in San Sebatian and Gijon

In San Sebastian

PT Operators Dbus (urban buses) Lurraldebus (intercity buses)

Service supplier: Telvent

Communications Operator: Euskaltel

Financial Company: Kutxa / Ceca

SITE Project 23

San Sebastian-Gijon experimentation

An intermodal application on mobile phone SITE Ticket NFC app

A specific Sim card, containing the application must be introduced in the device

SITE Project 24

“Paper ticket” explored for a Nantes –Gijon continuity

A potential extension of Metroceane ticket for the other side of the Biscay bay

Existing intermodal non technological ticket Between Nantes and St Nazaire

Gijon OK to continue the trip after the ferry + OK to implement a bus line

But.. No foot passenger reservation possible on the sea-motorway

And a threat on the future for this sea link

before the question of ticket the need for an identified and stable service
