2014 started with a return to cosmopolitan south
TRANSCRIPT
Operating as a roaming London gallery throughout the year with a permanent exhibition space in Lancashire, Loughran Gallery’s ethos is simple: to provide a welcoming environment to find something you love. Select artists include Chris Levine, Damien Hirst, Harland Miller, Jessica Zoob, Marc Quinn, Polly Morgan, Takashi Murakami and Tracey Emin. All of the gallery’s shows are unintimidating and open to all, with a no-nonsense approach to art.
In 2012, Loughran Gallery celebrated the launch of several diverse and unique exhibitions in the capital including in a garage space in Notting Hill, an old hat factory on East London’s Redchurch Street, and at the innovative Boxpark in Shoreditch – each showcasing Loughran Gallery’s rostrum of artists. The gallery’s versatility and diversity was further demonstrated by two ambitious solo exhibitions held in the autumn of 2013.
September brought the opening of Dancing With Colour, a Jessica Zoob solo show, in the Albion Riverside in Battersea. This riverside location was a perfect setting for Jessica’s 2013 collection, and the show enjoyed an extended opening of six weeks due to popular demand.
October was the month in which Loughran Gallery held a first ever retrospective of the artist Dave White with its ‘Sold Out’ show. The three-day event exhibited primarily Artist’s Proofs and was therefore the last chance for many to see these editions before they completely sold out into private collections.
On the first anniversary of the gallery’s launch, Loughran Gallery hosted birthday exhibition ONE on London’s prestigious South Bank opposite the Tate Modern at NEO Bankside. The celebratory event showcased the very best of Loughran Gallery’s portfolio, including a one-time-only showing of Jessica Zoob’s Passion, a 14-metre long piece comprised of six individual oil paintings. The first edition of Dave White’s Aquatic Box Set was also showcased, alongside a brand new, unique Marc Quinn piece featuring his famous muse, Lara Stone, exclusive to Loughran Gallery.
2014 started with a return to cosmopolitan South West London with the Chelsea-based Sprung show held during the spring, and continued into the summer with the Art Takeover at Muriel’s Kitchen in Soho. The breadth and depth of Loughran Gallery means the gallery is fast becoming one of the most exciting cultural businesses to watch, with press coverage in such notable publications as The Independent, The Huffington Post, The Evening Standard and Harper’s Bazaar.
With nine eclectic shows since the gallery’s inception, Loughran Gallery looks forward to its tenth with Dave White’s exciting new collection, Albion.
‘Albion’, the oldest name known for the British Isles, is the highly anticipated collection from contemporary British artist Dave White and explores the heritage and iconography of British wildlife in White’s dynamic signature style.
The show is a large scale installation of oil paintings, works on paper, the second edition of Dave’s exclusive collectors’ box sets, and limited edition silkscreen prints, exclusively unveiling White’s next subject matter celebrating classic British species, both rare and common found.
Each species featured in the exhibition has a significant meaning to White, portraying the artist’s personal relationship to the British Isles and the countryside it nurtures. This includes White’s continued concern for the vulnerability and danger such creatures continue to endure, a theme first explored in his Natural Selection series, leading to the magnificent portraits of animals including a Red Squirrel, Golden Eagle and Peregrine Falcon.
This landmark collection will be duly celebrated with a unique work by the artist on a classic British car. This exciting venture sees Dave White paint an Albion inspired piece on a classic Jaguar E-type coupé – a car notable for its strong British heritage – which not only features as part of the exhibition’s unveiling, but is also included as part of the three-week show.
Dave White explains his new series: “By exploring various subject matters over the last few years, my work has been presenting endangered wildlife and species from around the world. Whilst that journey continues on an international level, I would like to pay homage to our very own subjects and threatened creatures that we take for granted.
“Now is the time to draw attention to our much loved countryside...to celebrate it in all its glory, whilst making the viewer re-engage with the beauty that ever diminishes. It is a stark reality that species we take for granted will be gone in less than 30 years.”
