From the Chair of the Scholarship Committee….

Congratulations to the 2014 graduating seniors in our Phelps County high schools and surrounding communities. We also commend the college students currently working to pursue their degrees at many different colleges, universities, and technical schools. We are fortunate to have many talented and hard-working students and we are proud of them. Since the inception of the PCCF in 1976, we have awarded nearly $2 Million in scholarships to area students. Currently there are 61 scholarship funds to which students can apply, with two (2) funds being added during the past year. In 2014 we were able to award 114 scholarships totaling $228,277. Graduating high school students were awarded 79 scholarships totaling $185,277. Thirty-three (33) college students received scholarships totaling $43,050. We are grateful to the generous donors of the PCCF who provide the

funding for these scholarships. Scholarship funding is a great way to participate in charitable giving and provides the benefit of giving a young student a good start in establishing a career! We welcome inquiries into our scholarship funding as we have many options for giving.

Opens Scholarship Fund

In 2011, representatives of the Holdrege High School Class of 1966 decided to open a scholarship fund. This fund was a ‘grow’ fund meaning the class had five years to raise the $10,000 needed to open the new fund.

Class officers began a campaign to solicit funds using e-mail, reunions, memorials and give2Grow to collect gifts from classmates. This scholarship will be available in 2015 to graduating seniors of HHS who have maintained a 3.0 GPA. Qualified applicants will be required to submit an essay sharing the applicant’s personal characteristics, attributes and the applicant’s 5-10 year goals following the completion of their degree. If you are thinking about creating a meaningful legacy consider contacting the Phelps County Community Foundation. Scholarship funds as well as other designated charitable funds can help you to achieve your philanthropic goals today and into the future.
