Welcome to Cirque de Soirée, this year’s Gala fundraiser for the Anglo-American School of Moscow’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). We hope you will be amazed by the performers, tantalized by the high-flying cocktails and charmed into opening your wallets wide during the Live and Silent Auctions.

The annual AAS Gala raises funds to enhance our children’s experience at AAS. Via the Gala, the PTO raises 90% of its total annual budget. These funds pay for programs like the Visiting Artists, Newcomers’ Seminars and Enhancement Grants and annual events like the Family BBQ and Craft Fair that our whole community looks forward to with great anticipation. These are also the funds that enable the PTO to organize class parties for the Elementary School, socials for the Middle School, holiday lunches for the High School, and so much more.

The success of this evening has been made possible by countless hours of volunteer work by so many in our community: parents, teachers and staff alike. The PTO would like to say a special thanks to Gala Coordina-tor Beth Kirkham and her Gala Committee for their tireless efforts in creating this evening. We are delighted that the Gala brings together so many AAS families, friends, sponsors and distinguished guests.

Rebecca MeurerPTO President 2013-14

We hope you will enjoy the evening.

Ladies and Gentlemen...!

Qualifying as an auctioneer in 2012, Tom set the bar as one of the youngest to take to the rostrum in the long history of Chris-tie’s, having passed through the rigorous selection and training process. Previous to this Tom had completed a Masters de-gree in History of Art at the University of St Andrews, where he focused on the late works of Pablo Picasso, before joining the Christie’s Impressionist & Modern Art de-partment in London in 2010.

Tom can frequently be seen wielding the gavel for Christie’s both in its South Kens-ington and revered King Street auction rooms. He also travels extensively, taking charity auctions throughout Britain and abroad-- in 2013 alone, he took 52 auctions.

Alongside his role as auctioneer, Tom continues to work as a specialist for the department of Impressionist & Modern Art, where his passion for art history lies.

Medvedev has a following among the expat community in Moscow. His more well-known paintings feature what looks like an adult woman "all dolled up." Medvedev’s subject is actually a doll. The sweet and innocent faces of his sub-jects are well-illuminated and the details of their costumes astonishing, down to the accessories of the outfit.

Without breaking frameworks and traditions in such genres as still-life, portrait, and landscape, Irina has been able to create her own recognized style. Her vi-sion as a designer and painter merge to create a unique approach. Irina uses a decorative composition within the panel form of her painting. She brings har-mony to the collage of decorative elements and detailed disassembled realistic compositions. Her attention to color is accentuated most in her paintings of the sea.

Your French-Russian Dacha Experience Includes:• 2 night accommodation for 2 adults and 2 children (2 dbl rooms)• Full board (from late dinner on arrival day to breakfast on last day)• Round-trip train tickets from Moscow • Transfers to/from Dacha

The Cobalt Net Tea Set

7 Live Auction Lot

The Cobalt Net tea set was created by the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory. Tea set shape designer: Serafima Jakovleva, distinguished Russian Federa-tion artist; tea set pattern designer: Anna Yatzkevich.

The pattern of Cobalt Net was based on the design of Empress Elizabeth’s personal tea set created by Dmitry Vinogradov mid-18th century. This pat-tern is the most recognized and popular of IPM’s porcelain, and is in the col-lections of the world’s leading museums. The fine lines of “Cobalt Net,” deco-rated with a touch of gold, gracefully compliment the refined shape of the pieces. This tea set is handmade and hand-painted.

The Imperial Porcelain Manufactory was founded in 1744 in St. Petersburg by Empress Elizabeth, daughter of Tzar Peter the Great. It was the first porcelain factory in Russia and third in Europe.

The Modern Porcelain Art Gallery is a unique place. It is the flagship store of the Imperial Porcelain retail network. It exhibits exclusive creations of IPM artists as well as replicas of famous imperial vases, sculptures and porcelain sets from the State Hermitage Museum and other leading museums in Russia. The Gallery holds exhibitions, presentations and porcelain decoration master-classes. Visit the

Gallery and enjoy IPM artists’ new collections including the Olympic Games theme.

A creative spirit by nature, Salomé followed her passion for fine arts, and par-ticularly painting, through her university studies. She has experimented with techniques and materials, including recently adding ceramic and sculpture to her competencies. Salomé created “El Estudiante” (The Student) especially for the AAS Gala. Her love of the tactile is reflected in the use of mixed materials to create texture and give substance to the books and knowledge illuminating the young man. A recent arrival to Moscow, Salomé draws on the culture, light and color environment that she has experienced since moving to Russia this past fall.

Lusia Popenko is an artist who proves French philosophy wrong. She is a star in her own way. Her light does not blind, as it is free from that disastrous radia-tion, emanated by the primes of radical art. At the same time Lusia is neither a marginal, nor a loser. She is a remarkable and successful artist, who masterfully defined her independent niche within the Moscow art scene. Her work is wide-ly recognized by collectors.

Passing practically all the developmental stages of Soviet and Russian graphic art and partially reflecting them in her own works, Klara continues at age 89 to ob-serve the realities of current life, and to adapt them to newer methods. Despite the multi-faceted nature of her talent and ability to work in several different genres, she has an easily recognizable style. She will never finish learning and changing, since at any moment she may create a work with a combination of wisdom and restraint blended with experimentation bordering on oddity.

Bruno García is a master of the ancient art of storytelling who spins his epics on canvas. He seeks to capture both the human and the divine in his sacred beasts and warriors whose spirits bound out of his canvases with powerful presence. With layers of color and texture, García captures the essence of his subjects, sketching the idea of the warrior and horse without specifically defining them. García’s works hark back to the roots of artistic creation, seeking inspiration in ancient art and history.
