Until about 1935, motorcyclists didn’t wear helmets – with tragic consequences. Seat belts in cars? It seems strange

now, but they only became mandatory for the first time in 1970. Likewise, the neck brace is the most recent safety

innovation that will hopefully become simple common sense. Leatt-Brace®’s are lab-designed to fit most riders: young

or old, amateur or professional, but most importantly, they’re built and tested to help lessen the risk of injury when

riding. It’s just that simple.

The Leatt® Lab, based in Cape Town, South Africa, is Leatt®’s home of research & development. Here dr. Leatt and his

team of engineers and designers conceptualise and test new products and constantly strive to improve existing products

even further. The facility features state-of-the-art testing and prototyping equipment that enables the team to take a

product from conceptualization, through testing, all the way to pre-production prototypes. While the majority of Leatt®’s

R&D gets done at the cape town facility, collaborations with global partners give our products an international flavour.

The philosophy of testing at Leatt® has been to develop test rigs and methods that allow comprehensive in-house testing

and exploration of product performance. Using a range of real life scenarios similar to the types of situations that might be

encountered in the appropriate form of racing or other accident, tests are conducted at intensity levels that allow Leatt®

engineers to fully understand and characterise accident dynamics and product / rider interaction, in order to optimize

product performance.

It also gives Leatt® engineers the confidence to expect a first round approval when submitting product to certification

facilities, where appropriate, for examination.

Each Leatt® neck brace is designed with a 360º strike platform. This is necessary to ensure you have all round safety. The platform is also designed not too hook your helmet, which could lead to very serious injuries.

To help ensure our neck braces don’t cause you harm in an accident we have engineered

them with crumple zones. These zones are specific areas that break away when the

forces caused by the accident are too great.

The Leatt® neck brace is made using only high quality materials like

aramid fiber, carbon fiber, fiberglass reinforced nylon, arctic fusion

compound (AFC), Leatt® high impact polymer (LHIP), and shock-

absorbing materials like our injected padding or biofoam (biofoam is

also fully replaceable and washable). This is done to assist with the

engineered technology that has been put into our neck braces.

We believe that the 5.5 neck brace is truly the most technologically advanced neck brace in the world. The CE certified 5.5 neck brace balances the needs of comfort, effectiveness and safety by allowing greater freedom of movement and adjustment to more closely meet the needs of top level racers whilst Leatt®’s commitment to safety ensures that key safety features pioneered by Leatt® are built into each brace.

The core of what makes our neck braces work is Alternative Load Path Technology (ALPT®) and for the ALPT to work optimally neck braces must fit correctly. The adjustability built into all Leatt® neck braces is not just for comfort, but to ensure a correct fit that assists in optimizing effectiveness of your neck brace. We believe that no other neck brace can be adjusted to fit riders as well as a Leatt®. The front and rear sliding SureFit adjusters can be set for your personal body shape, without tools, in less than 30 seconds. The brace can also be readjusted as necessary for growing kids or when worn with different apparel. To further optimize fit, the new and improved CoreFlex rear thoracic strut has an exclusive feature that allows it to be adjusted to 4 setting angles. This is done with a simple elastomeric bumper that can be set at 0, 5, 10 or 15 degrees in seconds.

The 5.5 has lowered side areas, below the ear, that increases comfort and wearability, especially on kids, smaller statured riders and riders with shorter necks. A simple pop off shoulder pad that can raise or lower your brace to suit your neck length or helmet rim profiles. Both the front and the back feature has the new split design that promotes broader dissipation of energy transmitted to the body and have new molded padding for greater comfort. The semi-rigid chassis is flexible and adjustable enough to fit most riders’ body shape while the structure remains rigid enough to help transmit energy during an impact while multiple engineered fracture points and crumple zones will bend or break away at pre-determined stress levels to help contribute to a riders’ safety. The new and improved CoreFlex rear thoracic strut is more comfortable than ever and still has the engineered fracture point at the top that allows it to break away in certain severe impacts. If broken this strut can be purchased as a replacement part and easily changed out. The strut is lined with the same soft padding as on all the surfaces that ride against your body and this protective padding is on the brace edges facing inwards towards the soft tissues of the neck. The injected foam padding is more durable and easier to clean than ever before and designed to accommodate custom sticker kits.

In 2013 Leatt redesigned the best selling motorcycle neck brace in the world. So much so that we renamed what used to be the Club brace into what is now the Race. The chassis is still made from Leatt’s high impact polymer (LHIP) but the front has been completely re-sculpted using into a split front design that was pioneered by the Leatt STX brace from 2011. The split front design allows for independent movement of the two “wings’ for increased comfort and better fit. This “split” design criteria was also added in the redesign of the rear thoracic strut. This strut, called CoreFlex, allows the rear, downward, “fingers” to flex independently of each other with co-molded, soft, rubber set between them and extending below them.The Race neck brace is the only neck brace with the unique rear table height adjustment with 28mm of travel. The STX RR uses Alternative Load Path Technology, ALPT™, to drastically reduce the injury causes forces on the neck in a crash. Helps protect from hyper extension, hyper flexion, lateral hyper extension and hyper translation type injuries. Helps stabilize the head/neck in compressive type injuries. The ultra light carbon fiber chassis is so comfortable it will hardly be noticed while riding or racing. Designed to fit on the outside of race leathers the twin, swiveling, scapula wings on the back adjust to fit with aero humps and many body shapes. The front of brace folds back to allow for getting in a full tuck yet still fits correctly when riding in more upright positions. An entirely new approach to further help prevent knee injuries. No knee brace can prevent all foreseeable knee injuries but Leatt® laboratory engineers and other medical professionals have come up with a radical design to help further reduce injuries over what traditional “cage type” knee brace designs can do.

The main features of a new type of knee brace should include better comfort, lower profile under the boot, reduction/elimination of excessive forces put on the femur (thigh bone), reduction/elimination of rotational forces that damage knees even on knee brace users, better knee cap (patella) protection, bring the inside of the knee closer to the bike for better control, longer last hinge mechanism that better replicates the natural motions of the knee joint,

The C-Frame knee brace is based on three point force distribution and has a super stiff mono hinge design for maximum force control. Having a single hinge, mounted towards the outside of the rider’s knee means the rider can better grip the bike with the inside of their knee. A comfortable, low profile shin bone plate replaces traditional arms for better comfort and better rotation control. This plate also allows riders with larger calf muscles to wear a knee brace for the first time. InteliLink hinge with double pivot points, BioLink hinge ligaments and sealed bearings inside better replicate natural knee motion and have a very long lifespan. Vented upper leg plates eliminate the narrowly focused sideways forces on the soft tissues of the thigh. This decreases sideways bending of the knee as well as helps reduce rotational forces. It also allows for better fitment on more shapes/sizes of legs without the need for expensive custom molds.

Leatt® engineers also placed a comfortable CE impact certified protector onto a moisture wicking knee brace sock that is worn with the brace. This absorbs far more impact energy than traditional cups and better insures the knee protection is where it belongs.

The Chest Protector Pro Junior is the first ever youth chest protector to be certified to the highest level of chest impact protection. As your core temperature rises, physical and mental performance suffers and you’re not

able to perform at your peak. This rising core temperature is also dangerous and can result

in heat stroke that may be fatal in extreme circumstances. Leatt®’s cooling range aims to

help with this natural problem by aiding your core temperature to stay at normal levels.

The Leatt® Pre-Cooling products are designed to help keep your body cool, even reduce

your standing body temperature, before you compete and cool you down quicker after

The Leatt® Cooling products rely on Hyperkewl™, a technologically advanced

material invented by Techniche International. Worn next to the skin, Hyperkewl™

initially keeps you cool with its absorbed water and continues to keep you cool later

via the evaporation process. Light, cool and effective.

The Coolit products work pretty easy. Submerse your Coolit product in water

for about 2 minutes, squeeze out excess water, put it on and go ride. The coolit

products are comfortably worn under your riding gear.

With the Hyperkewl technology activated next to your skin and the air flowing through as you ride, you can feel up to 8o-11oC cooler. This will help your core to keep at a normal temperature and help you focus on your ride.

Heat is the athlete’s enemy. Outside heat as well as excessive core heat, inside your body, can reduce athletic and mental performance. The Leatt® Pre-Cooling vest is designed to help keep your body cool, even reduce your standing body temperature, before you compete and allow you to cool down quicker after the event.

Wearing the Pre-Cool Vest before an event keeps the athlete as fresh as possible up they are until ready to compete. Do not wear the vest during the competition! The fabric vest itself should be soaked a minimum of 2 minutes in cool water and helps cool the body through evaporation. With the Cool Pax™ removed the vest can be worn during competitions, while soaked, but never to be worn after it has become dry.

The Pro Jacket was designed by the same designers and with the same purpose as the Leatt® Adventure Enduro Jacket, with a few exceptions. Adding a wealth of innovative features, the Pro Jacket is for the rider who appreciates the added protection of a neck brace, and whom embraces the elements and does so at speed. The W.E.C. jacket is a water resistant, lightweight off road riding jacket with some heavy duty features. Leatt’s main concern in designing a jacket like this is the ability for it to integrate with neck braces yet still be comfortable and easy to wear. The collapsible, waterproof fabric, neck allows the rider to decide if they would like to cover up the neck brace and seal out the elements or leave the weather collar off the brace to allow a little more ventilation. If you don’t wear a neck brace at all, or if you want to wear the jacket casually, the collar rolls up neatly and is held down with elastic straps. The top front pocket is 100% waterproof to help protect your valuables. More than just great looking this jacket is a great performer.
