Important Leadership Responsibility
Sustainability of the Student BranchMake next year better than this year!At year start – Have a planNext Year’s Officers – Train this yearIdea– Make sure some officers are not seniors– Strong Committees– Any other ideas?
Having different committees can help you develop a varied, broad-reaching program of activities. Some key committees are:
Student Branch Committees
Program Committee • plans and runs the
Branch’s program of activities.
Membership Committee • plans and carrying out Branch recruitment efforts, including
promoting membership benefits to new and existing members.
Publicity Committee • Advertises all Branch
activities.
Finance Committee • Fundraising activities (job
fairs…)
Nominating Committee • responsible for setting
election guidelines and dates and finding suitable candidates.
Most people you will work with on IEEE activities are volunteers.
IEEE Volunteerism
Be respectful of them and their time (plan efforts)
Make them feel their contributions are important
Make sure they get recognition
Thank them for their participation
Give them titles related to activities (big one)
Seek and get commitments
Make sure they feel they have input to the process
BRANCH OPERATIONS
• Design a varied and interesting schedule of events.Branch Program
• Web Resources.•http://www.ieee.org/membership_services/membership/students/branch_resources.html
Branch Resources
• Ensure that students are aware of Competitions and scholarships available to them. Visit: http://www.ieee.org/membership_services/ membership/students/branch_resources.html

An Annual report is due May 1st with incentive
• $2 per member
Workshop
Break out into teams• 5-10 students per team• Try to get into a group of people you don’t know well.

Ventures
Funding and Support LettersSubmission and Review ProcessFor More Information...
What is an S-PAVe?
• engineering professionalism
Projects or activities conceived by IEEE Student Branches to develop an awareness of
• IEEE through RAB/SAC/SPAA and IEEE USA SPACFunded by
Students develop the idea and submit a proposal for funding
• students receive funding to proceed with their planned venture and report results to IEEE
If approved
S-PAVe Program Goals
• prototype activities/materials to enhance Student Member awareness of professional concerns
Develop:
• with focus on Freshmen, Sophomores, and JuniorsIncrease Student Membership:
Provide new services for Student Branch Membership
• to gain experience in project planning and organization
Enable Student Branches:
VenturesCan be: of any nature except those that duplicate the Student Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC)
• Service, Workshop, Video, Simulation, Resource MaterialsSuggested Formats:
• Make a video tape depicting ethical dilemmas• Develop an in-house training program that instructs students
on how to run a meeting• Establish a resume evaluation service• Create a computer package that gives basic ideas on setting
up your own company
Examples
Can span days, weeks or months, but should not generally exceed one school semester

Financial support letter
Venture Budget
One or two pages itemizing income sources and expenditures
• up to US$200.00 and additional funds on a matching basis
A base amount of funds is provided:
• for every dollar committed to the venture from other sources (e.g., IEEE Section, Student Branch, or local companies)
One additional dollar of S-PAVe funds (over the base amount) may be requested:
All requested S-PAVe funds may not be awarded
The maximum S-PAVe award is US$500.00
Venture Budget Example
*Assume that US$175.00 has been secured from the IEEE Section*
• $200.00 in base funding• $175.00 as a dollar for dollar match to Section funds
$375.00 can be requested from S-PAVe funds
• US$175.00 Section funds• US$375.00 S-PAVe funds
Total income would be US$550.00
S-PAVe FUNDS WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE STUDENT BRANCH ONCE THE VENTURE HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR FUNDING.
Funding and Support Letters
• Its author has read the proposal, likes it, and supports the Student Branch involvement
• If appropriate, any amount of financial commitment
A Letter of Support indicates
• Student Branch Counselor• Regional S-PAC Coordinator (Regions 1-6 only)
Required Letters of Support
A Letter of Financial Support is required from any funding source
Submission and Review Process
• Regions 1-6: IEEE-USA Manager, Professional ProgramsSubmit proposals at any time to:
• Expected achievement of S-PAVe goals• Likelihood of success• Originality• Available funds
Proposals are reviewed and awarded funds based on
• -- not a contest
Each proposal is evaluated on its own merit
• RAB/SAC/SPAA Chair · RAB/SAC Chair · IEEE USA SPAC ChairThe reviewing is performed by:
Award notification is made within 2 weeks
What is an S-PAW?
• Containing information on various aspects of growing personally in the area of professional awareness and developing leadership skills that you can use in your personal, academic, career and IEEE Student Branch areas.
• Lots of idea-sharing and discussions among the different schools and leaders who attend.
An S-PAW (Student Professional Awareness Workshop) is designed to be a fun, informative, and interactive workshop:
