Green Corps Job Description
What is Green Corps? Green Corps is a seasonal work-study program for high school youth in Cleveland. Students work to maintain learning farms,
harvest and sell produce at markets and help produce Ripe from Downtown Salsa.
Throughout the season, these youth learn life skills, agriculture and horticulture skills, business skills and environmental
stewardship. Students work together to learn how to make their own lives and their communities better.
What would my tasks be? Responsibilities include:
Working in the learning farm planting, weeding, watering and harvesting vegetables, herbs and flowers. This work
takes place in all weather conditions including heat and rain.
Harvesting and packaging produce for sale at markets, restaurants and local neighborhood residents. This work is
done carefully and professionally.
Assisting in producing and selling of Ripe from Downtown salsa.
Actively participating in Cleveland Botanical Garden and Green Corps special events.
Actively participating in workshops and field trips related to personal development, gardening and agriculture,
health, culinary skills, marketing and customer relations.
Who gets hired? Unfortunately, we cannot hire everyone who applies. We will interview and select students who:
Demonstrate an ability to get along with others
Demonstrate a strong desire to learn and have an interest in gardening, agriculture and the environment
Are willing and able to work outside doing manual labor in all types of weather
Will comply with all Green Corps policies and procedures
When would I work? Saturday May 17, 2014 is a required orientation.
The summer program is from June 2 until the middle of August; Tuesday Through Friday 8am -1pm.
Some additional paid hours for markets and events will be required.
There will be an opportunity for some students to continue working into the school year from August to October.
How much would I be paid? All student-employees will be paid $7.85 per hour.

selected for an interview, Cleveland Botanical Garden will call you to set up a time to interview during spring break
(April 14 – April 18).

Green Corps is a seasonal work-study program for high school students (age 15-18) in Cleveland. Students earn
an hourly wage working as a team to maintain learning farms and market produce and salsa. Students learn
agricultural/horticultural skills, business skills, life skills and environmental stewardship. Green Corps will
challenge students to work cooperatively with others, to be a leader, work independently, and to work in all
weather conditions. We do not require a certain GPA, but to be successful in this program, students must be able
to come to work every day on time, work with others, accept direction and be eager to learn.
