Growing up, most girls have their dream wedding planned by age 10. They know what type of dress

they want to wear, what flowers they will carry down the aisle and where they want to get married; all they have to do is find the lucky guy to marry.

NRV Bridals and Events help deserving couples make their wedding wish dreams come true. The 5th annual “Make-a-Wedding Wish Come True” will take place at the newly renovated Alexander Black House in Blacksburg, VA.

The historic Queen Anne style home was originally constructed in 1897 by prominent Blacksburg resident Alexander Black. Black was the founder of the Bank of Blacksburg, known today as the National Bank of Blacksburg, and the great-great nephew of William Black, who founded the Town of Blacksburg in 1798.

The Alexander Black House & Cultural Center builds community through cultural exchange, while celebrating this region’s unique

history. The center now stands as one of this region’s most unique cultural arts and events space. Located in the heart of downtown Blacksburg’s Arts and Cultural District, the newly renovated center is home to community events, celebrations, meetings, museum space, live music and a rotating art gallery showcasing local artists in an inviting and elegant atmosphere. Able to accommodate up to 250 guests for events and performances, the center is now Blacksburg’s premiere outlet for

activities highlighting the cultural contributions our region as offered for centuries and serves as a unique venue for private or business gatherings and events.

The lucky winners of the 5th annual “Make-a-Wedding Wish Come True” will be pleased to see

the location of their dream wedding and all the planning and preparation unfold right before their eyes.

Nestled in the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains is a wedding facility unlike any other. The goal of this

facility is to offer a beautiful location at an affordable price.

Even if you travel to Floyd every weekend there is a good possibility you haven’t noticed the signs for the Floyd EcoVillage. Tucked away on 75 acres of pine forest adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway, this facility offers a secluded location that can hold any type of event. As you pull up to Floyd EcoVillage, the first thing you will notice are the natural parking lots and locally obtained timber frame entrance. Walking around the back of the facility, guests are greeted by a large stone patio overlooking an amphitheater and pavilion. Looking up the hill, past the pond, you will see the Bermed Lodge. The lodge, which has five single rooms and two double suites, is built into the mountainside offering guests a unique lodging experience.

When entering the community center, the first thing that hits you is the smell—the smell of wood to

be precise. Wooden beams, trusses, molding, and window boxes can be seen at every turn. The celebration hall with its spring dance floor is designed to accommodate groups of 50 to 250 people. With a professional lighting and sound system, as well as the largest electric projector screen in the area, this room can comfortably serve 144 seated guests or 250 standing guests and offers a stage for a band, DJ, or dancing. The

cafe is a better room for groups of 60 or less that don’t need all of the bells and whistles. The wood tables, cafe style booths, and rustic views lend itself to a smaller wedding or rehearsal dinner. The largest perk of the cafe is its connection to the commercial

kitchen. At 740 square feet, a home chef cooking for 20 guests or a caterer feeding a party of up to 250 guests can use the commercial kitchen.

Recently, the Floyd EcoVillage has become a popular wedding destination—families, and brides especially, like the laid back atmosphere that allows caterers and alcohol to be brought in while offering dishes and linens to be rented on site. Santina Krayer, a mother of the bride, stated, “The EcoVillage was a wonderful place for our daughter’s wedding. The setting is breathtaking and the venue is beautiful. The staff is warm, friendly, and listened to all of our thoughts and wishes and made this special day happen; they took care of every detail!”

The Floyd EcoVillage has the ability

to make your special day as big or as small as you wish. Weddings ranging from ornate affairs with up-lighting and walls draped with satin, to country motifs complete with mason jar drinking glasses, and candles carved into wood are possible. If you can dream it, the Floyd EcoVillage can make it happen.

If you are from Floyd or visiting for the first time and are interested in a tour give us a call. You can also visit us online or send us an email.

Lovewell Lodge and Weddings, A Rustic Hidden

Treasure

“I said Yes!” In December 2010, so the planning process began. My fiancé Gabriel and I knew we

wanted an outdoor wedding so our search began. We visited numerous outdoor wedding sites and bed and breakfasts in the New River Valley and Floyd area before narrowing it down to one.

After our special day came and went, on our drive to our honeymoon is when our dream started to evolve. My now husband and I were recapping on all the venues we visited. We had always planned on owning land someday but never thought to put it to use for a wedding site. Jokingly I said we could combine our two last names (my maiden name being Lovern and his Caldwell) we could call it “Lovewell!” “Love well, Live happy!” - it just kind of stuck. We were getting so excited about our plans and it hadn’t even happened for us yet. Our goals and dreams were to provide a unique, affordable place for all to enjoy, the rustic wedding venue that we were looking for.

I was on the computer daily, searching the real estate ads to only find the same ones for sale day after day. We live in Pembroke, VA and love everything about it.

Our hearts were set on finding land in the area but the properties were either way out of our budget or wasn’t what we had in mind. Finally, after almost two years of searching my husband discovered a piece of property that had been for sale the whole time was reduced in price so we decided to take a look.

The land was grown over, with an old deserted trailer on it. As we walked the property we discovered an old building that stood at the top of the mountain. It didn’t look like much to some but to us it was a treasure. The potential views were breathtaking. It was a peaceful place to be, it just felt right to the both of us. The old building was just an extra bonus.

Page 15: 2014 Fall NRV Virginia Weddings Fall Booklet

www.BestOfNRVWeddings.com 15

That is when we decided to leave it standing and restore it into a cabin to be used as a getaway place and also for the Bride to use on her wedding day and as honeymoon suite.

After closing on the land in February 2013, in our spare time from our jobs we have been working hard, especially my husband on creating Lovewell Lodge and Weddings. A rustic hidden treasure tucked away in beautiful Pembroke, VA.

The Sacred Heart Chapel, Virginia’s Smallest Church

S C H E D U L E D F O R C O M P L E T I O N B Y D E C E M B E R 3 1 , 2 0 1 4By Bob Johnston, Proprietor, Silver Hearth Lodge

Back in 1993, when I first acquired the very top of Bent Mountain as my summer home, I quickly

discovered that the property was more than just a choice piece of real estate...it had a magical sense about it. Frequent visitors referred to it as “Sacred Space.” I found that visitors were emotionally moved on a regular basis, I observed that both flora and fauna flourished here with no stresses & strains and I personally witnessed events here that could only be explained as modern day miracles.

Fast-forward to the spring of 2010 when Silver Hearth Lodge was first opened to the public for weddings. The business was brisk from the get go and since then, our clients have represented the geographical area from as far south as Texas to as far north as Connecticut.

Occasionally, there would be an inquiry about our capacity to host an elopement ceremony, the renewal of vows or a private worship service. As these requests became more frequent, the final call to action came one day when a bride-to-be advised me that she would not be able to get married here because her Grandmother was only going to pay for her wedding if

she got married in a church; the idea to build a non-denominational church and the resulting efforts immediately took root. This wee house of worship was planned to be small, inviting, fun and a

blending amongst nature. Silver Hearth Lodge –the only

private mountaintop wedding venue in the entire southeast, is on schedule for the completion of its’ newest facility by December 31st, known as the Sacred Heart Chapel. The

Page 19: 2014 Fall NRV Virginia Weddings Fall Booklet

formal unveiling will be held in 2015 with the assistance of NRV Bridals & Events and will reveal interior features such as: a replica of the priceless Sistine Chapel ceiling fresco that was painted in the early 1500s by Michelangelo, European stained glass of the Sacred Heart, a 200 year old tree trunk that has been handcrafted into the Altar, hardwood floors with an inlaid cross, Palmer Snyder chairs made in the 1940s and a window wall behind the rustic Altar where parishioners can witness the grand majesty of nature in all of her

splendor. The exterior features will include: exterior church pews that were constructed of heart pine in the 1800s, a raised orchestra or choir bandstand, the Sacred Heart patio that is defined by a heart shaped ankle wall of red stained locust logs, the Holy Trinity picnic patio with its three hemlock tables and our well-known burning bush—a dwarf cherry tree–that lights up the church sign during hours of darkness. The list of features that make the Sacred Heart Chapel unique and enchanting goes on and it will be available for weddings, renewal of vows, elopement ceremonies, and quiet contemplation or for other special events upon request.
