In 2014, dare2tri hosted two paratriathlon

camps for varying ages and experience

levels. A total of 71 athletes attended, many

participated in adaptive sports for the first

time.

The fourth-annual Paratriathlon Training

Camp occurred the first weekend in June at

the RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.

Athletes spent two days participating in

clinics including: swimming, cycling,

2

running/pushing, nutrition, transition, and

paratri 101. The camp concluded with the

Dare2tri Tri It Triathlon.

The Kids Paratriathlon Training Camp was

hosted in partnership with the Chicago

Park District in July. Dare2tri catered to

youth by hosting clinics in open water

swimming, cycling, running/pushing, and

transition. The camp concluded with the

Dare2tri Kids Tri It Triathlon.

“I have never had such an

amazing weekend. In

addition to the technical

things that I learned, I also

gained new friends and

an experience that I will

remember for a long time.

The highlight of camp was

seeing the smiles of the

athletes after the finish of

their first triathlon.”

Many individuals with disabilities have expensive medical bills and adaptive sports equipment is not covered by insurance. Dare2tri Athletes at ITU World Triathlon Chicago

1

The 2014 ITU World Triathlon series paid

a visit to Chicago, as thousands of

triathletes and paratriathletes competed

in dare2tri’s own backyard on June 27-29,

2014.

Dare2tri was the Presenting Sponsor of

the ITU World Chicago Triathlon

Paratriathlon races, and was therefore

able to provide support and volunteers

for the many parathletes from around the

world who competed in Elite and PC

Open races, while also educating the

community on the sport of Paratriathlon.

Throughout the weekend, the real stars

were the 19 dare2tri athletes who

competed.

2

Notable finishes included:

• Mary Kate Callahan (PT1), 1st • Diana Helt (PT1), 2nd • Hailey Danisewicz (PT2), 1st • Melissa Stockwell (PT2), 2nd • Grace Norman (PT4), 2nd

Dare2tri and its athletes received some

much deserved media attention. The

articles and television segments can be

viewed on the dare2tri website in the

news section of the media tab. Pictures

from the weekend can also be viewed in

the photo section of the media tab.

The ITU World Triathlon Grand Finale

will be coming back to the Windy City

September 15-20, 2015.

“A hometown race meant

the luxury of sleeping in

my own bed on race eve,

and taking advantage of

all the local support. The

7.5-lap bike and 3-lap run

meant that I got to soak

up all sorts of support from

my coach and my

dare2tri friends who were

on course. Chicago is truly

a perfect city for triathlons,

and I always love the

chance to race in this

gorgeous city. Finishing first

in my category was just

the cherry on top of a

fantastic weekend.”

Dare2tri Elite Team Season Wrap Up “I think one of the reasons it took me

20 years to get involved with

adaptive sports is that it meant

admitting to myself that I have a

disability. Growing up, I never

wanted to be treated differently or

limited by anyone. Dare2tri has

taught me that by not participating

in adaptive sports, I was the one

limiting myself from reaching my full

potential as an athlete. Thanks to

dare2tri, I have accomplished goals

that two years ago I never would

have dreamed of having.”
