The EdgeChange and success run hand-in-hand, and ACOEP is not averse to change in order to remain a dynamic association. Through the years we’ve grown and developed, adapting to the times, responding to member input and, overall, evolving. It is this spirit of growth that inspired the name Emerge given to our Spring and Fall conferences—a name embracing a period of change, evolution, and maturation.

The journey of emergence has brought us to a precipice in emergency medicine, a place of unforeseen challenges and incredible opportunity. There is no roadmap as we journey into this uncharted territory; however as emergency physicians look to gain an edge, ACOEP will be a stalwart resource for its members.

It’s this unique point that inspires our new branding of all ACOEP conferences under one bold heading: The Edge. This is more than a name change and a new logo, The Edge is the inspiration and the foundation upon which our educational opportunities will be based.

To give you an edge to overcome new challenges; embrace the cutting edge of new technologies, opportunities and advancement; and journey together to the edge, generating creative thoughts, solutions and lasting advancement.

This concept will be our cornerstone as we plan conventions, find new topics and explore new opportunities for our attendees. We hope it will be your outlook as you arrive, ready to give yourself an edge in learning the unknown, and broadening your horizons.

“ Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people can change the world. For indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”

– Margaret Mead

Intense Review Information

COURSE OBJECTIVEThis course provides an intense review of clinical problems encountered in the daily practice of emergency medicine, and assists physicians in their preparation to take the certification or recertification examination in emergency medicine. Each lecture is designed to add to participants’ knowledge base, and to provide guidance in emergency department management. While the course is comprehensive, emphasis placed on each subject is commensurate with the published guidelines of the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.

PROGRAM FORMATAttendees will have the opportunity to pick up course materials in advance on Wednesday, January 15 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Materials will also be available for pick up each morning during breakfast, which is provided. Lectures begin early on Thursday, January 16, at 6:45 a.m. The remainder of the week, lectures begin at 7:30 a.m., and end between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. The last lecture on Monday will end at approximately 1:45 p.m. The progress of each participant will be measured via administration of a pre and post-test (presented by Challenger Corp.) given on the first and last day of the program. There will be a two-hour period allowed for participants to take the post test examination on site, or the exam may be taken home and done individually.

The course includes all topics listed in the ACOEP’s Core Curriculum for Emergency Medicine. Some topics will be covered in written format only. Speakers will place emphasis on topics listed as High (H) and Moderate (M) emphasis in the Core Curriculum. A case-based review of EKG’s will also be provided. The Visual Stimulus Review will be on display Thursday through Monday. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in this optional question and answer photo case review. The Visual Stimulus will also be available on an in-house hotel channel 24 hours a day for attendees staying at the Westin River North. Participants who attest to reviewing all cases will receive two-hours of additional CME credit.

SYLLABUS MATERIALParticipants will receive their syllabus material in a paper binder format consisting of approximately 1,000 pages of printed material, unless a USB flash drive is requested. Please note that the flash drive does NOT have note-taking capability. ACOEP will provide power strips in the general session room. The syllabus will only be available to be picked up on-site. Please note that registrations received after January 3 are NOT guaranteed a paper syllabus. In the event that paper materials are no longer available, a flash drive will be provided.

PROGRAM CHAIR Victor Almeida, D.O., FACOEP
