messaGe from the executive director

I joined the team of Room at the Inn in December as Interim Executive Director and in my time here, have discovered a tremendous resource for the homeless of St. Louis. The sponsorship of the Sisters of Divine Providence, combined with the strength of an interfaith network of congregations, oversight by a committed Board of Directors and dedication of staff has impacted our community in an important way.

Room at the Inn clients face serious challenges when they are with us, and the road back to homes of their own can be long. Room at the Inn offers an opportunity for respite from the harsh realities of being on the street. During visits to night sites, I’ve seen people relax together around a meal and share the common experiences of parenting, employment and faith. The network of congregations that shares so much with Room at the Inn clients is truly unique and recognized by our peer agencies as a major asset.

This report reflects the impact of Room at the Inn during the last year, a year of responding to the varied needs of the homeless. It also indicates an investment of time and effort on the part of almost 2,000 volunteers and staff who work hard to meet every conceivable need. As I write this, we are on the edge of our seats waiting to hear the outcome of a client’s GED

test. Passing the GED is no small feat, and I’m looking forward to the celebration!

And, Kathy, a past client who is now in an apartment with her two teen children, shared, “I just can’t tell you how much it meant for us to be here when so much had gone wrong.”

Our clients’ success in finding jobs, addressing health issues and addictions, securing educational services for their children, reducing debt, and working toward permanent homes is the direct result of your support. The Board of Directors has undertaken the development of a strategic plan to determine how the organization might grow to have an even greater impact. We will be reaching out to many of you for feedback and look forward to the ideas you share. The work of Room at the Inn is vital to the health of the entire St. Louis community, and it could not happen without you. Many, many thanks!

All my best,

Peggy SlaterInterim Executive Director
