Risk Assessment & Product Testing

MityBilt has confidence that every table it manufactures

will perform beyond the demands of real world situations.

An in-house test facility subjects our tables and

components to extreme forces for hours on end to

make certain our products will exceed your expectations.

Many tests are carried out on our products during both

development and production. Any proposed changes

to the product or to the production method is reviewed

by MityBilt to decide whether additional risk assessment

testing is required.

MityBilt uses a third-party accredited test laboratory

to perform certain complex testing and to keep up to

date with current test requirements and legislation.

MityBilt structural table testing exceeds the demands

of ANSI-BIFMA and CGSB.

What is it?

SystemSTOR is an adaptable, flexible, high-quality storage system

that is used in education and office to home storage. Either in fixed

or mobile units the trays are perfect to make the best use of space

keeping your areas efficient, effective and looking good too.

Trays are available in 5 colours and sizes. Injection molded clips

fasten the lid to the tray keeping contents safe and allows for the

trays to be securely stacked. Smooth internal surfaces for easy

cleaning. Storage units available in metal or wood with optional

casters. Optional tray inserts are also available to help maximize

organization. See page 21.

What makes SystemSTOR trays different?

Glide & Tilt Tray Design

A pioneering design, the ‘Glide & Tilt™ Runner Module’ with

integrated ‘Arrestor & Tilt’ feature holds the tray in an angled

open position making easy access and clear display of the tray

contents. The Glide & Tilt™ Tray Runner Module (Arrestor & Tilt)

feature allows the tray to stop in the open position without falling

out of the storage unit and yet by a simple maneuver the tray can

be easily withdrawn from the unit.

There is no limit to the combinations of trays that can be used

within any storage unit. Molded from ‘Super Tuff’ ABS for strength

and durability; designed to suit both Standard Width (SW) and

Extra Wide (EW) in Single, Double, and Quad depths.

Tray Colour Options

The Benefits

The front of each tray is supplied with a transparent clip-on

ticket window. This allows name cards to be easily displayed,

yet only a second away from being changed.

At the end of the tray is an ‘easy peel’ stippled label area.

Stippled makes it 30% less adhesive meaning you no longer

have to pick the label off in hundreds of pieces; it comes off

quicker than it went on.

Shatter Proof

All SystemSTOR trays are manufactured from High Impact

Polystyrene (HIPS) which is proven to be 8 times stronger than

other trays manufactured from Talc filled Polypropylene (TFPP).

‘HIPS’ is a toughened grade of plastic giving excellent strength

and wear characteristics and shatter-proof for safety.

Keep your lids securely on the trays with these simple

snap on clips. Four recommended per lid.

Tray inserts

Five different types of ‘tray inserts’ are available; any

two inserts can fit into the single width trays. Inserts are

injection moulded for strength, and are designed for

use as a stand-alone item outside the stor tray as

well as for use within.

Combining the plastic stor tray with stor tray lids and

security clips make a totally secure storage container,

which eliminates products from becoming mixed up.

This system allows for storage of the huge number of

resource items used thoughout your school.

Children often tilt forward on the front legs of their chair when working

at a table in attempt to get comfortable. This better seating position is

found instinctively and without any instruction, but how do we reward

Good posture brings benefits such as improved concentration,

reduced discomfort and most importantly proven better achievements

in learning and in the workplace.

The Ergo Chair can be used can be used for a range of applications

in commercial and in educational environments, especially where long

Educational Furniture Posture

Many of us spend a significant part of our lives

sitting down, whether at school, college, in the office,

working in a shop or other seated activities.

Most of us spend our seated time sitting in a way that can lead to stiffness,

a sore neck and, in some cases (especially those of young children) back

problems that last a lifetime.

Many of these problems can be linked to poor posture in the form of

rounded shoulders, a cramped stomach and constant twisting of the

trunk. Classic examples of this are clearly illustrated in the photographs

taken in a typical classroom (top right). A lesson spent with their bodies

unwittingly forced into the hunched position adopted by everyone

shown…Hardlysurprisingwe’restiff,achingandtiredafteranexam,

lesson or day sat at our office desk!

Right angles means wrong ways.

In most of our schools, current best practice is to encourage

children to sit in the most upright position they can manage.

Let’s call it the ‘three right angles’ approach. here’s how it goes:

back straight, head up, look forward.

1 Seat flat, with thighs at 90º to the spine to make the

first right angle.

2 Knees bent at 90º to keep your lower legs straight – making

the second right angle.

3 And finally, feet bent at the ankle another 90º so they rest

flat on the floor, making the third right angle.

Andtohelpusto“situpstraight”,we’reusuallygivenflator

backward sloping seats with vertical backs and flat tables that

we tuck our legs under. Take a look at the relationship between

Figure 1 and the all too familiar Figure 2.

Fine if your body is alert and you need to look straight ahead

for a short while. But what happens if you need to read or write?

You have to bend forward over the table to get your eyes in the

right position, placing your head in an awkward position, curving

your spine, imposing unnecessary pressure on the discs in your

backandfloppingyourarmsacrossthetable.Andthis“slump”

goes on hour after hour, day after day, year after year in our

schools. So in creating ‘three right angles’, we’ve encouraged

completely the wrong way to sit.

It’s a tragedy that common sense tells us to rearrange our bodies

outofthe“upright”sittingpositionwe’vebeengivenintoanew

and thoroughly damaging way of sitting and working. So isn’t it

time we did something about it?

Fortunately for teachers and education administrators, the back

problems caused by such an unnatural and unhealthy sitting

position don’t tend to appear until we are between the ages of

13and16andworsenintheyearsafterwe’veleftschool.Otherwise

we could insist that our schools and education service take greater

responsibility for the potential long-term damage they do to our

bodies by not furnishing our classrooms with suitable furniture.

The ‘Right angles’ sitting position (top)

Principally, the right-angled sitting position is a backwards-inclined

resting position. Eyes are a long way from the book. So you have to

bend your neck into an unnatural position loads both the hip joints

and the lumbar region in extreme positions. It’s neither a natural

nor a comfortable way to sit for any length of time.

Working from the ‘Right Angles’ position (middle)

As soon as you begin reading or writing, your eyes need to be

brought closer to the work you are doing. To do so, you bend the

lumber region; typically the bending is localized in the 3rd, 4th, and

5th discs because the rest of the back is pretty inflexible. Even with

a limited bend, muscles, joints and ligaments are overstretched and the

back begins to round. There’s also backwards pressure on the lower

discs, and to make things more awkward, the extreme flexion of the

neck is a very tiring position to hold for any length of time.

Round back, cut legs (bottom)

To avoid rounding our backs, most of us move to the front of the

seat, so that our thighs slope about 20 degrees below the horizontal.

By bending our necks, we can bring our head down closer to the work

we’re doing. But in doing so, the front edge of the seat cuts into the

muscles of the thighs and restricts the flow of blood to the legs. The hip

can flex comfortably to around 60 degrees before the normal lumbar

curve starts to flatten, which then increases the loading on the disc and

stretches the adjacent supporting muscles and ligaments. After a while,

we end up with a sore back and numbness in the legs.
