UNCG POLICY ON INJURY REPORTSDue to circumstances surrounding the Family education Rights and Privacy Act (FeRPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), UNCG has developed a policy regarding the release of injury information.

UNCG student-athletes have the right to hold all injury information, except body part and playing status, confidential and private. As a standard operat-ing procedure, coaches, media relations staff and other athletic department personnel should refrain from sharing specific injury information with the media. However, in certain occasions, injury information could be released at the discretion of the media relations department after authorization is obtained from the student-athlete.

It is the policy of the UNCG athletic training staff to not address the media unless it is absolutely necessary. Therefore, inquiries by the media regarding medical situations should be addressed to Justin Glover in the Media Relations Office.

  • The UNCG womens basketball team enjoys a distinct home court advantage inside Michael B. Fleming Gymnasium. The facility is located in the Heath and Human Performance Building, a $16.2 million facility which opened on campus June of 1989. Before the 2006-07 season, Fleming Gym underwent a facelift to improve seating amenities. In the summer of 2011, a project to overhaul the team locker room areas began. The project included expanded and modernized space for numerous UNCG teams and also meeting areas for video breakdown and other activities. The gymnasium, which has seating for more than 1,800 spectators for baketball and 1,200 for volleyball was named Dec. 1, 1994 for Fleming, a Greensboro civic leader whose advocacy at the highest levels of state government was instrumental in the construction of the HHP Building. The Spartan mens basketball team defeated William and Mary 84-71 that night. Teams first occupied the gym during the 1989-90 academic year. The largest crowd to see an athletic contest in the gym was 2,302 for a mens basketball game against Charleston Southern on Feb. 25, 1995. The Spartans won, 98-70.
