My first season as Music Director of your orchestra was truly a pleasure. The orchestra showed real commitment and energy in its collaboration with me, the results of which I hope went well beyond the footlights. I can’t wait for us to give you more!
In keeping with the concept of a “global community” that today’s technology and socialmedia make a reality, our music-making this season takes its inspiration from all corners ofthe world; music from South America and Asia rub shoulders with some of the greatestworks from Europe and Russia.
I am also enthusiastic about introducing to you a great variety of solo artists, also from allover the world - from the charismatic and thoroughly entertaining “Alturas Duo and friends”to the formidable Finnish pianist and pedagogue Matti Raekallio and, not least, the GoldPrize Winner of the Tchaikovsky International Competition, Russian cellist Sergei Antonov.
I am also excited that the FMSO will kick off a month long community-wide Beethoven Festival at the end of January with an all-Beethoven program including the fabulous 5th
(well actually two fabulous 5ths - both the 5th symphony and the 5th piano concerto).
For our final concert we will go beyond “embracing the world” and attempt to leave theplanet entirely with a performance of Mahler’s Resurrection symphony which, for those whohave not experienced it, takes the listener into another realm…
The Alturas Duo withGonzalo Cortes
Specializing in both the music and theinstruments of Chile and its Andes Mountains, classically trained Scott Hill and Carlos Boltesbring entertaining and energized performancesto schools and concert stages throughout theUnited States.
