Page 8: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

-  Cities – places to be

Page 11: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

Cultural clusters – main questions

How does local cultural clustering work? How do clusters develop in connection to their (local) environment and their surrounding (global) network?

i.e. What is specifically global? What is specifically global?

Page 12: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

Page 14: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

Phase 1 – fieldtrip and interviews

- Stakeholders

-  Local administrative bodies

- Chamber of Industry and Trade Commerce

- Professionals in the field of research and policy advice

Page 15: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

Phase 1 – preliminary findings

- Policy = facilitating + creating networks

- Policy = sector specific and not spatial

- Policy = advisory boards + formal administration

- Money = EU funding + co-financing

Page 16: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

Policy = facilitating + creating networks “People involved in similar practices, people who share an

interest, who share an idea, who share the understanding of a problem. (…) They breed ideas and develop dynamics to realise them”.

Suntje Schmidt, researcher

Page 17: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

Policy = sector specific and not spatial

“We have an inner city West and an inner city East, and because of this, the creative economy is scattered all over the city.”

Sylvia Fiedler, policy maker

Page 18: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

Policy = advisory boards + formal administration “I am in two advisory boards for the

Chamber of Industry and Trade. We work with big financial leaders, the investors; through these boards they are easily accessible and we can talk to them. It gives us the feeling that we are also part of the team of decision makers, which to a certain degree makes sense.”

Bastian Lange, professional and researcher in Cultural Industries

Page 19: 2014-04-22 Presentation TUBerlin | Deltametropolis Association

Money = EU funding + co-financing

“Up until now, we are still part of EU2, but this funding period is ending soon. We are now busy compiling new plans, but we do not know yet if we will get sufficient funding. A lot of funding has been shut down and the emphasis is shifting. Facing this change, we have to reconsider our role as well.”

Sylvia Fiedler, policy maker
