Besides, there is always a one-month delay to get the benefit on the bank account. For example : You start living in an apartment on September and you apply immediately for a housing benefit. You will not get a benefit for your rent of September but for your rent of October and the following months. Plus, you will get the money on your bank account in November. Besides, if you leave the apartment in the end of May (don’t forget to report it to the Caf !), you will get your benefit for the last rent on your bank account in the mount of June. - Apply for housing benefit as soon as possible: it is not retroactive! For example, if you apply in December, you will not get a benefit for the rent you have paid in October and November. - The benefit amount depends on the income you had two years ago (in 2011). Do not print your application! If you see that screen below, it means that it has been already sent online to the Caf. But you have to print a rent certification (“attestation de loyer”). This document must be filled and signed by the landlord or the real estate agency or the residence. Then, send this filled document to the Caf.

You also have to send... ... if you are from a country of the European Economic Area (EEE) or from Switzerland:

- a copy of your ID card or of your passport or of your birth certificate or of your visa permit if you have one; - a certificate of honor that states that you have sufficient income to follow studies in France; - a letter of acceptance from University or a copy of your student card; - a copy of your European Health insurance card (or private insurance).
