AQUATIC CLASSES

LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM

All swim classes will be conducted at the Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center, located at Midlothian Road and Marilyn Lane. Our facility is located outdoors and subject to the elements, which means lessons will be held in poor weather. Our program is taught by the highest quality instructors who are hand-picked among many candidates. They have been carefully trained so your child learns to progress in a safe and controlled environment. Our goal is to have your child love swimming and feel comfortable in the water. If you have any questions or concerns, please address them early. We love the feedback!

GENERAL RULES FOR SWIM LESSONS

• Children must wear swim diapers with either a swim suit or swim pants over if not completely toilet-trained.• Parents wishing to observe the lessons must remain at a reasonable distance to avoid being a distraction to your

child and/or the instructor.• We do not hold make-up lessons for missing a class. • Refunds will not be given once class has begun.• Whales Tales is a preschool program that is integrated into our group swim program on an as needed basis. An

example of when we would use it is if the weather is poor and we choose not to have a water class, we will bring your child inside to present our Whales Tales program. This program is supported by the American Red Cross and part of the safety aspect of water.

• If you have a question, comment or concern about the swim lesson, please discuss it as soon as possible with the instructor or supervisor in-charge. Do not wait until the last day of class. By then, it could be too late to do anything about it.

• In the event of poor weather, you may call the Aquatic Center only ½ hour before your class to find out if we will be holding that class. The number to call is 847-847-3500 for a recorded message or 847-847-3504 to reach our front desk.

June 17 The Water Horse Legend of the Deep (PG) Code: 863 This magical motion picture is rooted in one of the most enduring and intriguinglegends of our time. A young boy finds a mysterious enchanted egg and what hatches from it will set in motion an adven-ture that will take him on the journey of a lifetime as the sea creature of Scottish legend is born.

June 24 The Odd Life of Timothy Green (PG) Code: 864This inspiring, magical story about a happily married couple, Cindy and Jim Green, who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. When young Timothy shows up on their doorstep one stormy night, Cindy and Jim—and their small town of Stanleyville—learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts.

July 1 Madagascar 3; Europe’s Most Wanted (PG) Code: 865Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple and of course, King Julien, Maurice and the Penguins are all along for the comedic adventure. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent – Madagascar style.

July 8 Flipper (PG) Code: 866Based on the extremely popular, long-running television series, FLIPPER tells the compelling story of an eccentric fisher-man, his nephew, and a brilliant dolphin who join forces to combat a group of cutthroat businessmen. Elijah Wood stars in this masterfully filmed, feel-good fantasy family favorite.

July 15 Free Willy (PG) Code: 867Jesse (Jason James Richter), a troubled twelve-year-old, befriends Willy, an orca whale recently captured by the seaquarium. When the owner of the seaquarium plots to kill Willy for the insurance money, Jesse risks his life to FREE WILLY in this touching family adventure.

July 22 Up (PG) Code: 868 Carl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and now in his 78th year he launches his house into the sky via thousands of balloons. Right after liftoff he discovers he has a stowaway in the form of an over optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. This hilarious journey takes you into a lost world with the least likely duo on Earth.

July 29 Wreck-it Ralph (PG) Code: 869Wreck-It Ralph longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix. Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes... so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun, Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan -- win a medal -- but soon wrecks everything, and accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz, a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy.

Aug 5 Soul Surfer (PG) Code: 870This is the inspiring true story of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton who lost her left arm in a shark attack and courageously overcame all odds to become a champion again, through her sheer determination and unwavering faith. A natural talent who took to the waves at a young age, she was leading an idyllic life on Kauai, participating in national surf competitions with her best friend Alana, when everything changed. This film reveals Bethany’s fight to recover from her ordeal and how she grappled with the question of her future.Village of Hawthorn Woods, 2 Lagoon Drive, Hawthorn Woods, IL 60047 (847) 438-5500 (847) 438-1459 (fax)

As a bridge between free play and competitive play, Coach Pickles’ Jelly Bean Sports is a prescription for sports success. Encapsulated in the Jelly Bean Way is the structure missing from free play, and the exploration often absent from competitive sports. Developed by Dr. Brad Kayden, Ed.D., our curriculum focuses on the fun inside building not just sports skills, but also the important life skills of listening, communication and critical thinking. Led by certified Jelly Bean Coach Performers, our Jelly Bean Programs are designed to help children learn how to feel, think, and act inside sports environments. This makes kids more coachable and productive at the competitive level later. See you in class!
