2013 Logan-Magnolia Girl’s Track Team

With the weather being less than ideal, the Lady Panthers track team has maintained agreat attitude about putting up with the elements.

“Every girl is beginning to understand their role on the team,” said head coach GeneEsser. “They are working hard to improve themselves athletically every day.”

According to Esser, one of the strengths this year will be in the field events. Returningstate qualifier Carrie Charbonneau is expected to be strong in both the discuss and the shotput. Also, sophomore Alix Lawson will score consistently in the throwing events.Freshman Ally Wills will be looking at the discus. Maysen Jones and Dana Edney will per-form well in the high jump and freshman Abby Straight and Anna Readman round out thefield events in the long jump.

In running events, the hurdles look to be strong again. Jones, Kelsey Cunard and (alter-nate) Joeona Healey are returning state qualifiers in the shuttle hurdles. This year, Straightand Readman are expected to round out the team. Running the middle distances will beseniors Kendra Holcomb, Emily Dickinson, Courtney Oviatt and juniors Hayley Whisneyand Marissa Doiel. Freshman Victoria Johnson is a very talented distant and middle dis-tant runner. Haleigh Rife, Lynzee Rosengren and Nohemy Orozco will bolster the relays.

“We have a lot of talent this year, but we also have a lot of question marks,” Esser said.“If we stay healthy and keep working hard every day, these girls are going to have a greattrack experience.”

Assisting Esser this year will be Judy Adair, Jennifer Schulz and Carly Olsen.

The 2013 Woodbine Boys Track team members are: Front row (from left), Kevin Lee, Mason Mentink, Logan Worth,Barry Hodges and Caleb Goodrich. Back row: Asst. Coach Kyle Bartels, Lucas Hedstrom, Tristan Hatterman, CraigRoyer, Brandon Doyle, JC Probasco and Head Coach Ryan Coenen. Not pictured: Malachi Mentink

The Tiger track and field team looks pretty solid. They have already competed in at least one event and didvery well for such a large field.

JC Probasco didn’t let the big venue slow him down. The returning letter-winner had a strong showing in the200-meter dash and helped the 4x400 relay team, as well.

Caleb Goodrich was only a few steps behind Probasco in a set of dashes, and was the anchor on that 4x400team.

Seniors Barry Hodges and Mason Mentink also had a good day on the oval. Lucas Hedstrom and BrandonDoyel had good outings in singles but really shined in the relays.

Coaches Ryan Coenen and Kyle Bartels will have a good selection of athletes for track and field events thisseason.

Alegent Creighton Clinic Physicans EncourageAnnual Health Assessment Physicals For Teens

A regular physical examination is the only way that overall health evaluations for children and teens is possible. Yearlyexams allow providers to track growth, screen for vision or hearing deficiencies as well as scoliosis checks and blood workor urinalysis.

Yearly annual physical exams open up conversations about topics that are difficult for adolescents to discuss. Annualphysicals validate the focus of whole-patient care. The quick sports physicals that are no doubt often convenient, are verylimited in scope – and the annual physical exam gives the opportunity for youth to build a relationship with their own physi-cian at least once each calendar year.

The teen years are a time of transition to adulthood. During this time, Alegent Creighton Providers encourage teens tobegin taking responsibility for their own health care. This means learning about their health problems, understanding med-ication needs, and having conversations regarding timely issues such as body image, high risk behaviors such as sexualactivity and drug use, or stress. In this age of instant information, many teens turn to unreliable sites on the internet. Directconversation with your provider can help patients of all ages understand the proper diet and exercise needs for a healthylifestyle.

Physicians at all Harrison County Alegent Creighton Clinics are encouraging all parents to have their children’simmunizations current. New requirements by the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Immunizations willrequire tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine for students enrolling in seventh grade beginning withthe 2013-2014 school year. This change will require a one-time booster dose of Tdap vaccine for students enrollingin grades seven and up, if born on or after Sept. 15, 2000.

Annual physical examinations for teens are available at all Alegent Creighton Health Clinics by appointment. Most pri-vate insurance, Medicaid and Hawk-I insurance policies provide for a yearly health evaluation and immunizations. Checkwith your carrier for exact benefit information.

Appointment times are available at all locations. The annual wellness physical is a great time to have your Sports Physicalpaper work filled out. State of Iowa High School Sports Physical forms will be available at all Harrison County locations.
