The PCCF Scholarship program grows each year through the many generous gifts of donors who realize the importance of education for the young people in our area. New to the offerings at the Foundation are the following scholarship funds:

HARRY AND EVELYN DAHLSTROM SCHOLRSHIP FUND

Harry Dahlstrom and his wife, Ev (dec.) have been very ingrained in Phelps County and made significant contributions to the viability of the Holdrege area. Harry Dahlstrom and daughter Jane Dahlstrom-Quinn established this award to support a gradate or graduating senior of any Phelps County High School. The ideal candidate for this award will not necessarily have the best grades but will exhibit a good work ethic and probability to succeed. The student must be a resident of Phelps County, plan to enroll or be a current student at any college, technical or trade school in the state of Nebraska and have a GPA of 2.75% or better,

JESS & WILLA KEIFER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Dr. Kay Keifer and Susan Wolf, (daughters of Jess and Willa Keifer), along with family and friends, established this award in memory of the Keifers’, who were loved and respected members of the Holdrege community. Eligible students will be Holdrege High School graduating seniors who have participated in at least two sports each of their four years of high school. The winner must be a good citizen and be well liked by students, faculty and administration. Applicants must be in the top 25% of their graduating class and plan to attend a college or university.

PHILANTHROPY CAN BE A GAME CHANGER FOR THE COST OF COLLEGE

After two decades in which the rise in college costs has steadily matched the rise in mean family income, ‘Trends in College Pricing, 2011’, a report by CollegeBoard, shows how the last decade has seen declining family income set against modest, but continuing, annual increases in the average cost of college. Very simply, college continues to get more expensive while the resources available to pay for it decline. Donors who give so generously in order to help advance the educational efforts of our youth are making a very real and meaningful impact when establishing scholarship funds through the Phelps County Community Foundation.
