    Seven local young women will be running for the title of 2013 Ringgold County Fair Queen. The ceremony is set for Wednesday, July 10 at the Ringgold County Fair-grounds at 7:30 p.m. The queen and princess contests will be held along with a Bill Riley Talent Search show that night. Last years queen Me-gan Doubleday will be at the event to crown the new queen. Duties of the fair queen include assisting with a num-ber of county fair events as well as competing in the Iowa state fair queen contest in August as the Ringgold county representative. The queen is also respon-sible for organizing the queen and princess contest for the

    Twelth annual county cowgirl queen, junior queen contest setThe Ringgold County Cow-girl Queen and Junior Queen Contest will once again be held on Thursday, July 11, at 6 p.m. The contest will end with the crowing of the Cowgirl Queen and Junior Queen be-fore the rodeo, which starts at 7:30 p.m. All contestants will ride in the Grand Entry of the ro-deo and the queens will be crowned by the 2012 Ring-gold County Cowgirl Queen Alexandra Eischeid. The contest will begin at approximately 6 p.m. in the grandstand with the public invited to attend. Contestants will be given an impromptu question, will dress in a

    western outfi t and complete the western pleasure riding pattern and the rodeo queen salute. Contestants will be expected to follow AQHA rules and regulations. The contest is open to res-idents of Ringgold, Decatur and Taylor counties or mem-bers of the Ringgold County Saddle Club. Junior Queen contestants must be between the ages of 10 and 15 years of age by January 1, 2013. Senior Queen contestants must be between the ages of 16 and 26 years of age by January 1, 2013. Applications are available from the Ringgold county extension offi ce. A complet-ed application and waiver

    need to be returned to the Ringgold County Extension Offi ce by 12 noon on Friday, July 5. This event is sponsored by the Ringgold County Fair Board. For more informa-tion, contact Holly Howell at 641-344-1400. Winners are eligible and encouraged to participate in the Iowa State Fair Senior and Junior Cowgirl queen contests. The winners will fi ll out state fair applications after the contest on July 11. Rules and regulations for the state contest can be found on the state fair website in the horse and pony premi-um book at http://www.io-wastatefair.org.

    Nine girls to take part in county fair princess contestNine girls from Ringgold county will be running for the title of 2013 Ringgold County Fair Princess at the contest Wednesday, July 10. The princess will be crowned at 7:30 p.m. The fair princess will get to partici-pate in various parades in the county and assist the queen in handing out ribbons dur-ing fair events.     4-H Objectives for the Ringgold County Fair

    FOR 4-H/FFA YOUTH: To provide a setting that encourages 4-H/FFA members to further demon-strate, learn and apply practical and university researched methods of pro-duction, management and/or marketing of their 4-H/FFA accomplishments. To assist in the continuing life skill development of 4-H/FFA members in the areas of self concept, communication, decision making, learning how to learn, coping with change, citizenship and leadership. To provide an opportunity for 4-H/FFA youth to measure their progress and skills against individual goals and accepted standards. To provide an opportunity for 4-H/FFA youth to participate in a variety of program opportunities beyond the county level. To provide an opportunity for 4-H/FFA members to gain personal satis-faction, meet new people, share ideas and learn to work cooperatively with others.

    FOR PUBLIC: To create an updated, comprehensive image of Iowas 4-H Youth Develop-ment program to the Fair public. To provide a showcase for accomplishments of 4-H/FFA youth. To stimulate interest and learn new ideas from the variety of 4-H/FFA projects and experiences available.

    Ringgold County Fair Public Notices: In compliance with Chapter 104A of the American Disabilities Act: Handicap Parkinghandicap parking shall be available, all of which shall be located as closely as possible to the area of fair activities. Motorized Wheelchairsall motorized wheelchairs will be accepted and permitted on the fairgrounds. Request for Assistanceupon request for assistance by a disabled person to enter upon, go to and from the grandstand or other place of activity, if reasonably possible, authorized personnel will assist. The Ringgold County Fair Boards Intent for a No Accident Fair: Adequate Police and Fire protection has been arranged for the duration of the fair. Cooperation by fair patrons with these staff persons in requested. While the greatest possible care will be executed by the management to protect patrons of the Ringgold County Fair, each individual will be held personally responsible for his/her actions, and the Ringgold County Fair Board will not be accountable for any injury. The Ringgold County Fair Board assumes no liability for loss or damage to any property of the concessionaire, exhibitor or patron, due to theft, fi re, tornado, weather conditions or other causes. There will be absolutely NO SMOKING IN ANY OF THE FAIRGROUND BUILDINGS. There will be absolutely NO SMOKING AT ALL ENTERTAINMENT AND PUBLIC EVENTS. The Ringgold County Fairgrounds shall not solicit or accept any tobacco-related sponsorship or advertising. Distribution of tobacco products, promo-tional items, and free samples of products identifi ed with a tobacco company will also be prohibited. This policy extends to any entity that leases, rents or otherwise holds events on the property. Possession or use of drugs, tobacco or alcohol (for human or animal con-sumption), or creating a disturbance will be grounds for dismissal from the Ringgold County Fair. (Exhibitors caught with the above will be asked to leave the grounds with all their projects and will forfeit all premiums and ribbons/awards.)

    SuperintendentsRules & Regulations for Open Class Exhibits

    1. Entries will be taken from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wednes-day, July 10, 2013, in the exhibitors building at the Ringgold County Fair. 2. First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded if deemed worthy by judges. All entries are judged on their own merit and will receive a ribbon. Premiums are awarded as follows: Blue, $1; Red, $-.75; White, $.50. Participation ribbons can be awarded. One Best of Class ribbon and an over all Best of Show trophy will be awarded. 3. The building will be open each day of the fair for observing exhibits. 4. Exhibits will be released Sunday July 14, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. 5. Each person may enter as many items as they wish in each class. 6. Exhibitors may be of any age. All classes will have a junior division (age 9 and under) intermediated division (10-18 years old) and senior division (19 and over). 7. Entry fee will be 50 cents per entry and premiums will be paid at release time. 8. Ringgold County Fair is not restricted to any area. All open class exhibits are open to any individual wishing to compete. 9. Diligence will be used to insure the safety of all exhibits after their arrival and placement, but in no case, will the fair person-nel be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur.
