Abstract
The poster sets out an overview of the current situation of transatlantic research cooperation in Ocean Sciences & highlights the international partnering priority for Horizon 2020, the EU’s new $95.2 Billion R&D funding program. It also introduces the Galway Declaration of 2013 on marine research co-operation between USA-EU & Canada, and shows examples of major EU marine research initiatives such as the Atlantic Strategy and EMODNET Programme. EU Atlantic Strategy The Atlantic Action Plan (IP/13/420) put forward by the Commission on 13 May 2013 aims to revitalise the marine and maritime economy in the Atlantic Ocean area. It shows how the EU's Atlantic Member States, their regions and the Commission can help create sustainable growth in coastal regions and drive forward the "blue economy", while preserving the environmental and ecological stability of the Atlantic Ocean. “There is already the prospect of real engagement from the US and Canada to establish a transatlantic research alliance, to deepen our common understanding of the Atlantic ecosystem and its potential to support the blue economy.”
