A note about “Buoyancy” This year you’ll see MINIMUM BUOYANCY in the specifications. This is the lowest buoyancy value that a particular PFD model can have and still meet USCGcertification requirements. We used to quote design buoyancy which is the valueintended for the design and is usually higher than the minimum allowed. We haven’t changed how we build jackets. We are striving to be more accurate.Your actual buoyancy will be equal or (likely) higher than the minimum. So nowyou know: we still float you!

m t i a d v e n t u r e w e a r . c o m 1

We love to make life jackets our customers want to wear. This

catalog reflects that. The faces you see throughout are a mix of our family,

friends, MTI staff, pro paddlers, and customers of MTI dealers. Like you,

they are people who love to canoe, kayak, SUP, sail, fish, and enjoy time

on the water. It’s no surprise that our design inspiration comes out of

what we experience ourselves. When our kids were little, we set out to

build a better youth jacket: the Bob. When we fell in love with Standup

Paddling we set out to transform the boring inflatable belt pack into

something cool that we’d want to wear. For this year our inspiration

for the VOYAGER comes from our experience of having a

multigenerational household. Seeing Dad struggle to clip up a life

jacket set us to thinking. How could we make a PFD for active

seniors that is easier to use and encourages them to keep boating?

Innovation comes from so many places; personal experience,

looking, listening, and thinking “how can we make it better.”

Thank you for keeping us inspired.

FLUID INFLATABLE BELT PACKColors: Moonlight Black, Aqua Print, Hibiscus PrintUSCG: Type IIIMinimum Buoyancy: 26 lb 2 ozSize: Adult Universal (30”-52”)User Weight: More than 80 lbs. User age: 16 and olderRearm Kit: Leland 24 Gram CO2 with BayonetMSRP: $125 #12575/4008

New for 2013: Pretty Hibiscus print designed to compliment beautiful boards.

Upgrades for 2013: Zippered storage pocket on lid. Exterior whistle holster and D-ring attachment point.

As recommend by Outside Magazine in their 2012 SUMMER GEAR GUIDE:

“The US Coast Guard officially classifies SUPs as vessels and requires every paddler to have a PFD on board at all times (except when paddling in the surf zone.) By far the best, most low-profile choice is a waistbelt with a deployable PFD by a CO² cartridge. The MTI Fluid belt pack is one of our favorites.”

Since SUP first exploded into the paddling scene MTI has worked to understand the needs of the Standup paddler. Compared to others, the MTI fluid is easier to armwith a single twist and lock cylinder, easier to repack with folding guidelines printed onthe bladder, and its positioned in the center of the belt so that it rides high and tight toyour body and doesn’t flop around – just like a well-designed backpack waistbelt.

Fully USGC approved, the FLUID by MTI is the choice of experienced and discerningSUP paddlers because they understand that:

1. Why would I want to bungee-cord a cheap life jacket to my expensive board?

2. Yes, I use a leash. But leashes can break. Boards get away from you. And I amgrateful to have my life jacket ON ME and not strapped to my board when it’s over a mile downwind away from me.

3. It’s smart to plan for the unexpected. I like to protect my most valuable ASSet…and that’s ME!

4. I want the best. And that’s the MTI Fluid.

Putting the flotation under the dog! With 90% of the flotation in the water underthe chest and neck, the underDOG supports the natural swim angle of the dog.The rear is allowed to sink lower than the forelegs, freeing the hind legs to swimmore efficiently. The neck is supported so that the head rides higher above thewater line, helping your dog to be less fatigued after a long swim – they wouldtell you so if they could!

Fit tips: Like people, dogs come in all shapes and sizes. Not all of them will fallperfectly within our sizing chart due to differences in breed shape and coatthickness. Chest measurement is taken around the widest part of the rib cage.

• Always tighten all straps securely.

• Grab both handles when lifting dog out of water.

• Test on your pup in shallow water before regular use.

A quick guide to help make sense of the current US Coast Guard regulations

Type I Offshore Lifejacket: Designed for extended survival inrough, open water. It usually will turn an unconsciousperson face up. Think “Titanic.”

Type IINear Shore Buoyant Vest: This “classic” PFD for adults and children is for calm inland water where there is chanceof fast rescue. But they’re not very comfortable. Think “the geeky jacket I had to wear canoeing at summer camp in 1979.”

Type IIIFlotation Aid: Bingo! This Type is the “Paddler’s Choice”because they are generally considered the mostcomfortable. For use in calm water where there is a goodchance of fast rescue since they will generally not turn anunconscious person face-up. While we want you to wear it,you are “USCG legal” by just having it accessible in the boat with you.

Type IVThrowable Device: These are designed to be thrown to aperson in the water — boat cushions, ring buoys, andhorseshoe buoys. They are not designed to be worn andmust be supplemented by a wearable PFD. Think “nauticaldecoration” at the yacht club.

Type VSpecial Use Device: This is the most confusing category formost people. “Special Use” PFDs include commercialwhitewater rafting vests, vests with rescue harnesses, workvests, deck suits, and hybrid inflatables for restricted use.Basically, it’s anything that didn’t fit the requirements forbeing neatly classified as a Type I, II, or III, but still offersgood buoyancy aid IF used under the conditions outlined onthe USCG stamp inside the jacket. In most cases forpaddlesports, the user MUST wear the jacket for it to belegal. Be sure to READ the USCG instructions sewn orprinted on the device.

Inflatable Life Jackets: These rely on inflatable chambersthat provide buoyancy when inflated by a CO2 cylinder.Uninflated, they are less bulky than foam jackets. Thespecific type is determined by characteristics such as itsamount of buoyancy, its in-water performance and its type of inflation mechanism. Our MTI Helios Inflatable and Fluid Belt Pack are TYPE III.

MTI Adventurewear is a proud member of PFDMA –the Personal Flotation Device Manufacturers Association.

The best PFD is the one you will wear.Life jacket, life vest, Personal Flotation Device (PFD) —whatever you call it, it only works if you wear it! Did youknow that nearly 70% of all drownings involving canoes, kayaks, or rafts might have been avoided if the victim hadbeen wearing a life jacket?

It wasn’t so long ago that when you’d ask someone to weara life jacket, they would roll their eyes and say “I can swim.”Most boaters found life jackets cumbersome and chose notto wear them. But oh, how times have changed! The goodnews is that the life jackets of today are stylish, comfortable, and very wearable. We feel that it’s our mission at MTI tocontinually work to improve a PFD’s fit, features, andfashion appeal — while keeping them affordable — so that it will be second nature to you to put one on whenever yougo boating.

Tips to Taking Care of Your Life Jacket• Don’t alter your lifejacket.

• Don’t put heavy objects on it or use for a kneeling pad or boat fender.

• Inspect for wear & tear and test in water annually.

• Rinse in fresh water after use.

• Drip dry thoroughly before stowing in a well ventilated place.

• Do not dry clean! The solvents and heat can disintegrate the foam.

FOR INFLATABLE PFDS:

• Always check to make sure the indicator point shows GREEN

before boating. RED means your jacket is not armed.

• When not in use, remove the cylinder.

• Check all components for dirt, corrosion, or punctures.
