Welcome to the JYF production sale! We continue to be excited

about being involved in the beef industry. Most breeds and all

segments of the industry are talking about increasing yields.

With fewer cattle in the marketplace, we need more pounds per

carcass processed. Cattle that are yielding less than 60% will

soon fi ll a smaller and smaller niche.

BIXS has the ability to identify cattle that yield and marble.

This allows the industry to identify and reward producers who

are raising the best cattle possible. As Limousin breeders we

know that we can raise cattle that will AAA and yield over

65%. The fi rst piece to the puzzle is running a Limousin bull

on your cows.

We are striving to provide you with a solid group of bulls to use

in your cross-breeding program. Feel free to give us a call or

JYF Aged BullsWe have made every effort to provide you, our customer, with the best bull for your money. We calve when most of our customers do, on the range, in April and May. This provides a 2 year old bull that will cover more cows with fewer bulls, saving you money. No bulls are sold before the sale so you’re picking from the entire calf crop. Due to their age, these bulls have gone through extra rounds of culling to ensure that they are as problem free as possible. We present as much information as we can, so there will be no surprises with your purchase. The JYF two year olds are designed with you in mind. It is extremely important to us that you get the best bull to meet your requirements. We will assist in any way we can, including at the auction. If you are not totally satisfi ed with your selection, you will not own him.

Each year candidates are selected to participate in the CYL Development program. The online application process opens in November and the deadline for eligible candidates to apply is in late January. Semi-fi nalists are chosen to attend a round table discussion event where fi nal candidates are selected. The CYL program admits young beef enthusiasts between the ages of 18-35 with a wide array of backgrounds in the beef industry.

Once selected the candidates are matched with a mentor by a mentor selection committee. The CYL youth are all at different stages of their careers and come from different backgrounds in the beef industry. Youth in the program may be interested in learning more about a potential career choice in the beef industry, becoming more knowledgeable and well connected in their current career or want to learn more about what it means to be an industry leader.

The CYL program offers two main categories of mentoring, a Professional Mentorship and an Industry Leader Mentorship. The professional mentorship program gives candidates the opportunity to pair up with agriculture professionals to get a jump-start on the careers of their choice. The professional mentorship would be most attractive to post-secondary students and those just starting their careers that have a keen interest in a beef-related profession.

The Industry Leader Mentorship is tailored to active beef producers who exhibit leadership potential and are interested in learning more about how to become involved in leadership roles such as sitting on a provincial or national beef board. The mentee’s personal goals and ideas for mentorship areas are taken into careful consideration when they are being matched with their mentors.

Once candidates are matched with their respective mentors the mentor/mentee journey begins. Through creation of an initial roadmap, the mentor and candidate set out the goals they wish to achieve during the program. Candidates are given a yearly budget of $2,000 to fund their participation in numerous industry events such as the ILC – CANADA (Calgary), the Beef Value Chain Roundtable (Ottawa & Calgary), the CCA Annual General Meeting (Ottawa), the CCA Semi-Annual Meeting (rotates through member provinces), related events and other opportunities in development.

Through attendance of industry events, meetings with their mentors and the completion of the Masters of Beef Advocacy Program the candidates build upon their knowledge base and become highly capable individuals to represent and lead the beef industry into the future.

The program benefi ts both parties involved by exposing a young person to elements of a potential career choice and being an extremely rewarding experience for the mentor perhaps even rewarding them with an employee down the road.

Mentor BiographyChantelle Donahue

Jeff grew up on his family farm (J. Yorga Farms) at Flintoft, SK. (Parents: Kelly and Norma, Sisters: Jillian and Jessica) He was active in the local 4-H club and involved with other community initiatives during his high school years. Jeff attended the University of Regina on a football scholarship, graduating with a degree in Business (B.Admin Marketing/Finance) and a degree in Economics (BA). After University, he signed to play with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and spent two seasons playing on the Offensive Line. Aside from being an active partner on the ranch at Flintoft, Jeff is currently employed by Value Partners Investments of Winnipeg.

J. Yorga Farms, a Purebred Limousin operation, focuses on production, docility and effi ciency. The goal is to raise the ideal beef animal; one that grades AAA and yields over 65%. As such, there is a focus on data, “if you don’t measure it, you can’t improve it”, commented Jeff. All bulls sold at the annual production sale (last Monday of February) are aged bulls, having all the performance data collected (EPD, Ultrasound, DNA) without having to push weight gain.

Chantelle Donahue is the Director of Corporate Affairs for Cargill’s Canadian government/regulatory relations, media relations and corporate responsibility activities. The role is based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Within Cargill, her responsibilities extend across 18 business units, in the areas of beef, poultry, milling, malt, grain handling and port services, animal nutrition and canola processing among others.

Chantelle brings 13 years of experience to her current role. Previous roles include Supply Chain & General Management at Prairie Malt Limited, Merchandizing at Cargill Limited and various roles focused on agriculture research. Within malt she was extensively involved in industry boards, committees and policy related activities at a local, provincial and national level.

Ms. Donahue has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (with Distinction) from the University of Alberta, where she obtained a double major in Marketing and Agriculture Economics.

Chantelle and her husband own and operate a grain and oilseed farm in Biggar, Saskatchewan.

JYF Herd Health Program

Prior to breeding - All cows and bulls are vaccinated with modifi ed-live vaccine for: IBR, BVD (types 1 &2) PI3, BRSV.

Calves are vaccinated with modifi ed-live vaccine for : IBR, BVD (types 1&2) PI3, BRSV, 8 way clostridial, haemophilius, pasturellia.

Bulls, cows and calves are treated with pour-on parasite control.

Prior to weaning – All calves vaccinated (boostered) with modifi ed-live vaccines for: IBR, BVD (types 1&2) PI3, BRSV, 8 way clostridial, haemophilius, pasturellia.

Prior to Sale - All bulls are semen tested.

PARTIES OF GUARANTEE: All guarantees are between the buyer and the seller.

ROLE OF THE ASSOCIATION: The Canadian Limousin Association shall not be responsible for any guarantees given by a seller of Limousin cattle.

BULL BREEDING GUIDELINES: All bulls offered for sale as breeding bulls, except calves at side, must be guaranteed breeders.

Should any bull fi fteen months of age or over fail to prove a natural breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders and free of any venereal disease, the buyer shall report in writing to the seller and provide a report of a complete exami-nation by a qualifi ed veterinarian. This notifi cation shall be provided to the seller no later than four (4) months following the date of purchase or six (6) months after the bull has reached fi fteen (15) months of age, whichever is later. The buyer shall return the bull to the seller at the buyer’s expense. The seller shall have the op-portunity to have the bull examined by a veterinarian of his choice. In the instance of a fertility re-test by the seller the bull must weigh the same or more than his posted adjusted 365-day weight. If the bull falls short of this weight then he must be reconditioned to meet the weight and then be re-tested. The seller will then have 45 days to prove this bull a breeder. If this bull proves to be a satisfactory breeder the bull shall be returned to the buyer.

In the event the seller fails to prove the bull a satisfactory breeder the buyer has the option to either accept a replacement F.O.B. the seller’s ranch or a refund of the actual purchase price. No incidental expenses such as feed, veterinary charges, interest, etc. will be charged by either party. In no event shall the seller be responsi-ble for reimbursing more than the purchase price.

FEMALE BREEDING GUIDELINES: Females represented as being “pregnancy tested safe in calf” are considered breeders without further guarantee. Cows and heifers represented as “bred” are not guaranteed safe in calf; but these, as well as open heifers selling as individual lots, are guaranteed to be breeders.

In the event a female is claimed to be a non-breeder after having been bred natu-rally to a bull known to be a breeder and after having been examined by a qualifi ed veterinarian, the matter must be reported in writing and the veterinarian’s report should be provided normally no later than six (6) months after the sale date or prior to the heifer attaining eighteen (18) months of age. Assuming that the female is returned to the seller in adequate body condition, the seller shall have seventy (70) days following the date that the female was returned to the seller in which to prove such female a breeder.

The seller may use any registered Limousin bull available to him/her, in which case the said female will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his/her expense.

Should the seller fail to prove the female a breeder, the buyer has the option to either accept a replacement F.O.B. to seller’s ranch, or a refund of the actual purchase price. No incidental expenses such as feed, veterinary charges, interest, etc. will be charged by either party, and in no event shall the seller be responsible for reimbursing more than the purchase price. In the event the buyer of an “OPEN” heifer fi nds that she was in fact in calf on sale day, he/she may return the heifer to the seller and at his option receive a satisfactory replacement or a refund of the purchase price. In the event a female sold as being safe in calf does not calve to the published and/or announced breeding date(s), the buyer, after notifying the seller in writing, may return the female and receive an immediate full refund of the purchase price.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE: No guarantee is given that a pregnant female will deliver a live calf, nor that she will carry the calf full term. In cases where the animal is subjected to any growth hormonal treatment, embryo transfer, or surgical reproduction technique after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void.

SUCKLING CALVES GUIDELINE: No guarantee of any kind applies to suckling calves less than six (6) months of age sold with their dam.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase shall constitute a separate transac-tion and the rights and obligations of these two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of the sale.

ARBITRATION: In the event of a dispute, the purchaser and seller may ask the Canadian Limousin Association to arbitrate the matter. The Arbitration Board shall be conducted under the rules of arbitration wherein the purchaser and seller will each appoint one person to the Board and the Canadian Limousin Association will appoint a Chairman. Each party will have one vote, and the decision of the majority of the Board being binding on both the seller and the purchaser.

Expenses of the arbitration will be at the sole discretion of the Chairman. Under no circumstances will the seller beliable for more than the purchase price of the animal.
