We recap 2012 and take a look at 2013 in this newsletter and it allows us to say thank you to all of those that assist us fi- nancially and to thank all of those that offer their volunteer support. With the assistance we receive, allows us to provide the many junior golf opportunities to our members and non-members alike and allows us to function as we do. All of them are very enthusiastic about junior golf and everyday bring to the office or tournament site a tremendous appreciation for junior golf. Our 11th Annual 100 Hole Golf Marathon took place on September 29, 2012 which is our major fund raiser for the year. Thanks to Jeff Reich, board president and Scott McNevin for their enthusiasm, leadership, and driving force in making it once again a very successful event. We espe- cially thank all 26 of the marathon participants who took the time to solicit pledges and gave the day to play 100 holes of golf on a day when the weather was a wee bit harsh. A sincere thank you to all that made pledges to our marathon golfers in support of junior golf and especially the Junior Golf Asso- ciation of Arizona. Our annual Fore Jr. Golf newslet-ter is one of the few printed documents we publish in this new world of digital and on line media. We recap 2012 and take a look at 2013 in this newsletter and it allows us to say thank you to all of those that assist us fi-nancially and to thank all of those that offer their volunteer support. With the assistance we receive, allows us to provide the many junior golf opportunities to our members and non-members alike and allows us to function as we do. Within this newsletter we recognize many, however space does not allow us to recognize everyone, but each and everyone is very important to us and we sincerely thank you and appreci-ate all of you that have donated financially, materially and/or your time to assist us throughout the year.

The JGAA has a very dedicated staff and we are fortunate to have them; Melanie Boyles Ad-ministrative Assistant/ Director of Communications, Kathy Knadler Phoenix Director of the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf, Chaun Groeneveld Office Assistant, Scott McNevin Assistant Execu-tive Director and Tom Cunning-ham Executive Director.

We espe-cially thank all 26 of the marathon participants who took the time to solicit pledges and gave the day to play 100 holes of golf on a day when the weather was a wee bit harsh. A sincere thank you to all that made

pledges to our marathon golfers in support of junior golf and especially the Junior Golf Asso-ciation of Arizona. Please see the separate article in this newsletter for more on our 11th Annual 100 Hole Golf Mara-thon.

2013 is here and we are very enthusiastic about all of our programs and the changes we have incorporated to make the time our members spend with us as enjoyable and beneficial as possible. We continue to adjust our programs and re-arrange our tournament sched-

ule to a best fit with all the opportunities afforded junior golfers in Arizona. As always we are very thankful for the number of families that chose junior golf for their discretionary dollars.

The staff and board of directors of the JGAA wish you happiness and suc-cess and look forward to seeing you in 2013.

JANUARY 2013

FORE JUNIOR GOLF JUNIOR GOLF ASSOCIATION OF ARIZONA

Greetings, As I pen this year end letter it is with a profound sense of honor and privilege to have the opportunity to posi-tively influence the lives of juniors particularly in light of the tragic loss of life in Newtown, Connecticut. Our commitment and ability to share the great game of Golf with the youth of Arizona is only possible with the steadfast support of our volunteers, parents, donors and sponsors who collectively fuel the engine – THANK YOU! My gratitude also to the ladies and gentlemen of the volunteer Board of Directors and committee mem-bers who give of their time, energy and expertise providing direction and governance for the organization. Reflecting on 2012 we witnessed increased participation in our events, brought seventeen golf industry lead-ers together to conduct a Junior Golf Summit in February exploring ways to further our reach and in October held the first ever Board of Directors “Advancement” to identify and prioritize key initiatives. The number one initiative being marketing and with today’s age of technology and social media we invite you to “like” the JGAA on Facebook and ask all past members to contact us through our “Alumni” link on our website at www.jgaa.org.

In 2012 we also expanded our complimentary College Placement Seminars with three panel presentations for members, one in Tucson and two in Phoenix. On the developmental side, over 500 kids aged 3 to 5 experienced their “first” golf tournament with the Itty Bitty Open through generous support from the Thunderbirds. Working with The First Tee of Phoenix and the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Club almost 200 girls enjoyed free instruction in newly formed “These Girls Rock” golf clinics. The Thompson Invitational was added in Tucson through the generous support of JGAA Alum and current PGA Tour member Michael Thompson. Again, our programs and events are made possible through the support of our many sponsors, donors

and volunteers! 2013 brings anticipation as the JGAA celebrates our 30th Anniversary! We look to further strengthen our rela-tionship with allied golf associations and are excited to applaud the expan-sion of both The First Tee of Phoenix and the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf pro-grams. The JGAA event schedule continues to grow as we add two new events; the New Year Shootout in January and the Northern Arizona Open in July. We look to also welcome back summer interns from Troon Country Club plus a USGA P.J. Boatwright intern! Dedicated to conducting fun and educational events for juniors who are new to the Game or competitive events for those wishing to play at the next level our mission is to share the wonderful virtues espoused through Golf. Remember, stay connected by “liking” us on Facebook! Golf for Life – For the kids! Best personal regards,

To receive a brochure for the con-test rules and additional details about the program and how you may participate call the JGAA office and we will send you the informa-tion or go to www.birdiesforcharityarizona.com

for all the details and make your pledge to the JGAA. We hope that you will participate in this program to help the Junior Golf Association of Arizona and at the same time be eligible for some great prizes.

The Junior Golf Associa-tion of Arizona is very pleased to once again be selected as one of the charitable organi-zations to participate in the 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open Birdies for Char-ity program.

“The real winners of the

Waste Management Phoenix Open are the local charities,” said Big Chief Alex Clark. “More than $5.5M will help thousands in need; we can’t thank the commu-nity and our sponsors enough for their outstanding support of this tournament.” This pro-

“The Thunderbirds, will

distribute $5,552,416 to local

charities through proceeds

raised from the 2012

tournament”

The Junior Golf Association has many supporters who year after year make it possible for us to continue to bring golf opportunities to our members.

We would like to recognize each of them here for their contributions during this past year, 2012.

The Thunderbirds were again the largest sing fi-nancial supporter of the JGAA in 2012. In addition to their generous financial support each year, they sponsor and host the Thunderbird Invitational , The Thunderbird Junior Classic and the Arizona High School Senior Classic tournament. Members of the Thunderbird also serve on the JGAA Board of Directors. The Alberta B. Farrington Foundation has long been the benefactor of the LPGA– USGA Girls Golf. In 2012, they continued their support of the JGAA as well, in addition to their ongoing support of the LPGA USGA Girls Golf. The United State Golf Association continues to as-sist the JGAA in many ways. KARSTEN MANUFACTURING/ PING Karsten Manufacturing supports the JGAA in sev-eral very meaningful ways. Our office are house in one of their buildings, in addition, Karsten sup-plied equipment and hats for the junior clinic at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, as well as meeting many of our request that come up from time to time throughout the year.

Through their many member women’s clubs, the AWGA is a major financial contributor to the JGAA and the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf. They also support the Girls Junior America’s Cup and Mary Cave Cup Team through a direct financial contri-bution. The AWGA provides handicaps for our female juniors and gives them tournament privi-leges to participate in AWGA tournaments. As-sist with volunteers and are active on the JGAA Board. The Arizona Golf Association is a significant sup-porter of the JGAA, providing strategic direction and planning expertise to vital to growing organi-zation like the JGAA. The AGA, provides handi-caps for our male juniors, AGA staff and volun-teers assist with rules officiating at many of our tournaments, rules clinics and serve on the JGAA Board of Directors Antigua sponsors the Antigua Milt Coggins Stroke Play Championship, played at Encanto & Maryvale Golf Courses. They provide over 200 tee gifts to be given to the participants at this tournament, as well as assisting in providing clothing for the JGAA. The Southwest Section PGA assisted us by pro-viding instructors, rules officials, and their exper-tise throughout the year. The SWSPGA Junior Tour is a big asset to junior golf.

2013 JGAA SCHEDULE

FORE JUNIOR GOLF

The Eleventh year of the JGAA Boys Golf Club, was once again, very successful. The BGC is open is to boys, ages 3-14, who are interested in learning more about golf and having fun at the same time. The BGC consists of 3, 6, and 9 hole divisions. These levels are unique in that members in each level play a specific number of holes from appropriate yardages. Such as, our 3 hole division will play from a max of 160 yards for a par 5.

This year the Boys Golf Club partnered with Dale Balvin and Arizona Junior Golf, to provide FREE instructional clin-ics to juniors ages 5 to 14 years old.

The 2013 schedule will add a new event in July. The Firecracker Scramble will be a fun addition to the boys club schedule.

2012 was another outstanding year of tournament participa-tion and memberships. I am grateful for the growing excite-ment for girls junior golf from players and family members and for the continued support of the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Phoenix program. 2013 has arrived and I am very excited about the changes and additions to the program in a continuing effort to offer the best possible opportunities for junior girl golfers of all ages and ability levels. The addition of beginning, intermediate and advanced clinics with The First Tee of Phoenix is designed to introduce new girls to the game as well as improved golf skills for current players.

The LPGA-USGA Girls Golf schedule comple-ments other golf or-ganizations and the junior Golf Association in particular. The schedule is carefully organized so that all girls, regardless of age, may participate in numerous golf events at a variety of great venues throughout the year. LPGA-USGA has partnered once again with The First tee of Phoenix and local LPGA and PGA pros to offer free These Girls Rock! Clinics to girls inter-ested in getting started in the game as well as occasional of-ferings for these at the inter-

mediate and advanced levels of play. The clinics take place on a regu-lar basis throughout the year in conjunc-tion with many of the scheduled tourna-ments. The clinics are a fun, interactive way to introduce friends and family to the game of golf. I am very grateful to, the members an fami-

lies who choose to support our non-profit organization, the JGAA and the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf program and would like to extend an additional thank you to those who contributed to the 100 Hole Golf Marathon fundraiser.

Rick is a retired manager of a computer vendor software busi-ness (23 years) and now devotes his time to volun-teering for the JGAA when he is not working part time at West-brook Village Golf Club in Peoria. By the way a 7 handicap!!

Some times trouble breeds trouble --- but more often than not good things happen when the friends of the JGAA engage other friends and encourage them to join them and volunteer for us. Such is the case with this year’s volunteer of the year recipient. Thanks to the encouragement of another devoted volunteer and last years volunteer of the year Gary Logelin, Rick Pressler was encouraged to help and a year later I’m proud to announce that Mr. Rick Pressler is the recipient of the award for 2012.

Besides volunteering for the JGAA he has marshaled at the WMPO 5 years, Frys.com for 3 years and helps run other charity golf events. AND volunteered by teaching Sunday school and coached youth soccer. This year Rick has volunteered as a rules official, starter, water brigade helper, you name it for 13 JGAA tournaments –so far!!! Thank you Gary Logelin for introducing Rick to us and if everyone would please stand and join me in recognizing the 2012 volunteer of the year, Mr. Rick Pressler.

FORE JUNIOR GOLF

The 11th Annual JGAA 100 Hole Golf Marathon was held on September 29, 2012 at the Bear Creek Golf Complex in Chandler, Arizona. This year’s marathon was a success, with over 25 players rais-ing over $70,000 for the Junior Golf Asso-ciation of Arizona. The Marathon is the only major fund raiser by the organization which gives those dedicated to junior golf the opportunity to give back and at the same time provide significant dollars to the Junior Golf Association of Arizona to fund their many programs. Although the marathon has passed, people can donate to the JGAA Marathon by going to the JGAA website, www.jgaa.org and clicking on the green Marathon button on the right.
