Apracticing attorney for over 27 years, he was the youngest person to serve as Corporation Council when he was appointed in1991; isa foundingpartnerof theHispanicHealthCouncil andCLARO.HewaselectedCityCouncilPresident inJanuaryof2010andbecameMayorJuneofthesameyear.

Governor Malloyhaspursuedacomprehensiveeconomicdevelopmentstrategy,one that invests ingrowthindustriesandcreatesjobswhileatthesametimedefendsthecoresectorsofoureconomyandprotectsthejobswealreadyhave.HisthreetieredapproachmakessurethatConnecticutcancompeteatanylevel–fromlargecorporations,tosmallbusinessesandstart-ups.TheFirstFiveprogramhasleveraged$1.7billioninprivatesectorinvestmentsacrossourstate’seconomy;thatprogramandothershavebroughtnumerouscorporateheadquarterstoConnecticutfromoutofstate,includingNBCSports,CharterCommunications,andJacksonLaboratories.TheSmallBusinessExpressProgramshasinvestedinmorethan700smallbusinessesacrossConnecticut,creatingandmaintainingthousandsofjobs.Andthefournew“InnovationEcosystems”located throughout the state are connecting entrepreneurs with capitol investors, cultivating the grassroots of ourstate’sideaseconomy.

TheGovernor isalsomaking investments ineducationatevery level. In2012,hesignedinto lawaschoolreformbillthathasbeencalledanationalmodel.Thelegislationhasprovidedhundredsofmillionsofadditionmoneytoschooldistricts,inexchangeforholisticchangesthatwillpreparestudentstocompeteinthe21stcenturyeconomy.In2013,GovernorMalloywasproudtopushforwhatsomehavecalledatransformationalinvestment in theUniversityofConnecticut. NextGenerationConnecticutwillmakesure thatConnecticutresidentsareinpositiontocompeteforjobsinemergingfieldslikebioscienceanddigitalmedia.Finally,theGovernorhasalsocalledforandfundedthecreationofanewOfficeofEarlyChildhoodtoensurethatallourkidshaveaccesstoaqualityearlychildhoodlearningexperience.

Aswegrowjobsandimproveourschools,theGovernorbelieveswealsoneedtomakestategovernmentleanerandmoreefficient.ThenewlyenactedbudgetbuildsonthetremendousgainsmadeduringtheGovernor’sfirsttwoyearsinoffice,improvementsthatcontinuetofixthestate’sfinancialfoundationwithoutimposingnewtaxes.Withfeweremployeesandstateagenciesthanthedayhewassworninandnewinvestmentsintechnology, stategovernment ismaking thechangesnecessary to improve thedeliveryof serviceswithoutadditional costs.
