Childbirth classes: what are they?

You are pregnant and the German language is not your mother tongue.

You are perhaps alone and do not know who to con-fide in. This preparation class is for you.

Childbirth classes consist of 6 meetings conducted by a midwife and when necessary with a community interpreter.

They are there to listen to you, to answer your ques-tions and to give you the information that you need.

They will also talk to you about the developments during pregnancy, during labour, breastfeeding and about returning home as parents.

These meetings will take place in small groups, and be on subjects surrounding the arrival of your baby into your life, taking into account and giving total respect to each person’s cultural values.

Childbirth classes: when do they take place?

The best period to come for these meetings is be-tween the 5th and 8th month of pregnancy.

You will meet other pregnant women and you can share your experiences and expectations with them.

Childbirth classes: what do they cost?

The cost of attending the complete course of all 6 sessions is 30.– per woman.

If you cannot pay, please contact the course leader on the first evening.

If you have a medical insurance, it will contribute CHF 100.– towards the total cost of the classes. Due to a grant from the canton of Berne, the rest of the cost will be taken in charge.
