This week’s Hornet Spotlight also shines on Hornet
Senior Tre’von White. Tre’von
has been passionately involved
with football and basketball
during the course of his entire
high school career. He also par-
ticipated in track and field his
10th grade year. When Tre’von is not helping bring the
Hornet football team to victory or shooting hoops for
the Hornet basketball team, you can catch him serving
as a dedicated member of the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes. His devotion to the FCA has led him to be an
honored member all throughout his high school years.
In his spare time, Tre’von enjoys working out, watching
sports, and spending time with friends. Tre’von pro-
claims Mrs. Bulloch as his favorite teacher because she
continuously pushes him to his best potential in every-
thing he chooses to do. After high school, Tre’von is
anticipating going to the University of Georgia to study
Sports Medicine. Good luck, Tre’von!
This week’s Hornet Spotlight shines brightly on Hornet Senior
Brittney Hirsch. Brittney has been actively involved with the
softball team her entire high school career and has played a
part in the tennis team since her 10th grade year. When
Brittney is not sliding into home for the Lady Hornet softball
team or hustling on the court for the Hornet tennis team, you
can find Brittney working studiously to ace all of her tough
courses at PHS. Brittney’s scholarly work ethic has resulted in
her being a proud member of the Beta Club since her 10th
grade year. During her 9th and 10th grade years, she was an
active member of the FFA. In her spare time, Brittney likes to
hang out with her friends. Brittney declares Dr. Boyd as her
favorite teacher because he makes learning interesting and has
taught her to strive for her dreams
no matter the obstacle. After high
school, Brittney is exploring the
possibility of getting her masters in
nursing at Valdosta State University
or Kennesaw State University. Good
luck, Brittney!

Homecoming Court
On Wednesday, PHS students in each grade nominated homecoming
representatives to represent their class. The nominee chosen must be passing all her classes and have no discipline record. During homeroom, the students had to write down one young lady’s name
of their choice, and three reasons they were nominating this student. They will vote for them during their lunch once they have all the nominees. In grades 9th – 11th there will be two young ladies to participate, while in the 12th grade, there will be four. Congratula-
tions to the nominees!
MCYAC Sunday, September 29, MCYAC had their annual retreat in Camilla. They discussed their upcoming events and did fun activities as well.
Mrs. Alyssa has a group of pleasing members this year. These students are supportive and lend out a helping hand around the Mitchell
County communities. MCYAC and MCPEP will be doing visual presentations at the Wildlife Festival to show people the negative effects that drugs and alcohol can cause.

The Buzz has started a new feature called “Best Friends of the Month.”
Mrs. Whigham and Mrs.
Prince were selected this
month; they met in the
sixth grade and have been
best friends ever since.
Mrs. Prince attended
Washington Middle, and
Mrs. Whigham attended
Shiver. The two schools
shared a band, and since they were both in band, that is how they became
best friends. They both agree they can count on each other through the
good and bad, and by being best friends, they always have someone to
talk to. Other than working at the same school, they spend a lot of time
together. They recently spent the weekend in Athens, and this weekend
they will be traveling to Savannah to attend a wedding. They also cele-
brate holidays together, and they enjoy going to Panama City Beach
where they have family and mutual friends. The best family trip they have
ever taken was several years ago when they went to Las Vegas over
Thanksgiving. They also have a monthly appointment in Tallahassee
where they get their nails done, and about a month ago they got perma-
nent eyeliner. Although they have much in common, they are very differ-
ent. Whereas Mrs. Prince is extremely organized and punctual, Mrs.
Whigham tends to be less so. They do not seriously argue about anything;
they just pick on each other about stuff sometimes. When asked if there
was anything they really dislike about each other, Mrs. Whigham said,
“Look at Mrs. Prince’s hair, and look at mine. Enough said.” Mrs. Prince
said she can not stand when Mrs. Whigham insists that Mr. Bob Marley
needs to accompany them on their adventures. She said that Mrs.
Whigham is high maintenance enough; they certainly do not need to bring
along a Maltipoo who barks continuously. When asked what they love
about each other, Mrs. Prince said that Mrs. Whigham makes her laugh;
she can read her mind on most issues; she is her biggest cheerleader, and
she will drop everything and come to her rescue if she needed it. Mrs.
Whigham calls Mrs. Prince the sister she never had. Congratulations on
being our first Best Friends feature. You two deserve it!

Homecoming Week
One tradition at Pelham High School is that the football cheerleading
squad will spice up PHS for a week. Homecoming is right around the corner for the Pelham Hornets. October 28-November 1 will be the week where everybody has a chance to show off different kinds of
fashion. For 2013-2014 homecoming week: Monday-Tacky Tourist Day, Tuesday-Super Hero Day, Wednesday-Duck Dynasty Day, Thursday-Celebrity Day, and Friday is Spirit Day. The theme for the homecoming dance will be 70’s Retro, and will be held on Saturday
night, November 2.

Senior Beta
On Friday September 27th, the PHS Senior Beta Club held its

mony as set forth by the National Beta Club. The
inductees received a Beta emblem and a certifi-
cate. After the students received their certifi-
cates, they raised their right hand and repeated
the National Beta pledge with Principal Ben
Wiggins. With 28 new inductees, there are
currently 62 members in the 2013-2014 PHS Beta Club.

Hornet Football
The Pelham Hornets football team played against the Fitzgerald Hurri-canes on Sept. 27th. The Hornets lost 0-24, but played hard the entire
game. The Hornets do not have a game tonight which gives them time to prepare for the next big game against Cook County. Good Luck PHS
Hornets!
Cross Country
Congratulations to the cross country team for winning their dual cross country meet against Early County on October 1st. For the girls, Mon-
ica Webb placed first, McKenzie Smith-second, Cheyenne Brooks-fifth, and Marisol Aboytes-eighth. For the boys, Guthrie Edwards placed first, Brett Bailey-second, Chris Burroughs-fourth, Daniel Smith-fifth, and Joel Barrios-eighth.
The Lady Hornets ended their season Tuesday, October 1st.
The girls had a long but productive season. It was a bittersweet
night for the seniors as they played their last PHS softball
game. Seniors Brittney Hirsch, Courtney Hilliard, Rebecca
Smith, Lacey Brogren, and Jamison Glass influenced the team
tremendously and will be missed. We wish them the very best
in their future endeavors.
