ONE OF THE NATION’S BESTThe Huskies have been one of the most successful programs in not only the PSAC and the region but the nation over the past decade-plus. Since the beginning of the 2000 season, only three Division II teams have more victories than Bloomsburg - the Huskies are tied for fourth with Tuskegee (AL) with 127 wins and are fifth in winning percentage at .799.

NATIONAL RECOGNITIONThe Huskies vaulted to No. 6 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 announced Monday. On Tuesday, the Huskies were ranked No. 9 in the latest edition of the D2Football.com national Top 25. The Huskies also began the season ranked in multiple other national polls. Lindy’s Football Annual tabbed BU at No. 10 in Division II while The Sporting News listed the Huskies at No. 17 in the country.

DUO ON SENIOR BOWL WATCH LISTBloomsburg seniors Brian Clarke and Larry Webster have received spots on the 2014 Senior Bowl Watch List. The watch list includes more than 400 student athletes from nearly every level of college football. These are the players who are looking to fill the 110 roster spots that form the North and South squads for the nation’s premier all-star game. Rosters will be announced in January with the game held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 in Mobile, Ala., and televised on the NFL Network.

HUSKIES IN ELITE COMPANYBloomsburg entered the 2013 season having won seven or more games in 14 consecutive seasons. Only five schools in the divisions of the NCAA have longer streaks: Florida, Florida State and Virginia Tech in the FBS; NW Missouri in Division II; and Mt. Union in Division III. The 14-year streak is also a PSAC record, breaking IUP’s mark of 13 set from 1984-1996.

ELLIOTT MAKES NAME FOR HIMSELFOne of only two true freshmen on the Huskies’ active roster, Lawrence Elliott Jr. made a huge impact in Bloomsburg’s 45-7 Week 6 win over Millersville. The Utica, N.Y. native tallied 163 return yards on the day, including a 73-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter. The touchdown was the first Huskies punt return for a score since DJ Robinson brought a punt 70 yards for a touchdown vs. Millersville on Sept. 24, 2011. The 73 yards made Elliott’s punt return the longest for the Huskies since Robinson’s 78-yard return vs. LIU Post on Oct. 29, 2011. Elliott also ran back the opening kickoff 69 yards, setting the Huskies up in great field position on their first drive of the game.

RUSHING STREAKS BROKENWith a 31-0 lead at halftime and second half scores on defense and special teams, the Huskies could play conservatively for much of the day in the Week 6 win over Millersville. As a result, Bloomsburg had two impressive rushing streaks broken on the day – first, Franklyn Quiteh finished with 63 yards on only eight carries, snapping a personal 22-game streak of registering 100 or more yards on the ground. The last time Quiteh did not rush for 100 or more yards came over two years prior – a 61-yard outing on Oct. 8, 2011 vs. Cheyney. Bloomsburg also finished without a 100-yard rusher for the first time since a victory at IUP on Sept. 24, 2011 – a span of 26 games.

RUN, HUSKIES, RUNBloomsburg has registered more than 350 yards rushing in a game four times this year, tying the most in a single season over the past 20 years – the 2004 team also accomplished the feat.

HUSKY-SIZED YARDAGEOn the year, the Huskies rank fourth in the PSAC in yards per game, averaging 487.5 per contest. Bloomsburg has posted 500 yards or more of total offense in four of six games thus far – the only exceptions coming at Kutztown (372) and in a dominating performance vs. Millersville (292). The Millersville game marked the first time the Bloomsburg offense did not reach 300 yards since Nov. 5, 2011 – a span of 18 games.

GROUND AND POUNDThe Huskies have had at least 30 rushing attempts in 42 straight games, dating back to Oct. 31, 2009.

BU ‘D’ REMAINS STINGYBloomsburg allowed a season-low seven points in a 45-7 win over Millersville in Week 6, another strong showing for a defensive unit that has been solid all season. The Huskies are surrendering just 15.2 points per game through six weeks – the second-lowest total in the PSAC behind only IUP (12.0).

M A K I N G H I S T O R YSenior running back Franklyn Quiteh is re-writing the PSAC

record books this season by setting the conference’s all-time record for most career rushing yards. Quiteh broke the record with an eight-yard carry in the fourth quarter at Edinboro in

Week 2 as part of a 231-yard performance. He now sets his sights on the all-time Division II record books, moving to ninth place

all-time in D-II history with 251 yards at Gannon. Quiteh is currently the leading active rusher in all NCAA divisions (FBS, FCS, II, III) - by a wide margin. His career total is

nearly 1,000 yards more than his closest follower, Melikke Van Alstyne of NCAA Division III’s Framingham State

(5,385). Quiteh also is the NCAA active leader in rushing yards per game (156.8), all-purpose yards (6,758), rushing touchdowns (73) and total TDs (76). Quiteh has rushed for over 100 yards in 37 of 41 career games and 22 of the past 23.

LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARDThe Huskies are 105-3 when scoring 40 points all-time following their 45-7 win vs. Millersville in Week 6. Bloomsburg has tallied 40 or more points in four of its first six games this season - the all-time school record is seven games of 40+ points set three times (2005, 2007, 2012).

LARRY THE SACK KINGSenior defensive end Larry Webster picked up a half sack last week vs Millersville, pushing him to 8.5 sacks for the year. He ranks second in the PSAC behind Shippensburg’s Jake Metz, who has nine sacks, and is tied third in the nation in sacks per game behind Metz and Marcus Spearman of West Virginia Wesleyan. In 18 career games, Webster has tallied 22 sacks.

SECONDARY MAKING NOISE Bloomsburg picked up two key interceptions during the first half at Gannon as part of an eight-minute period where the Huskies broke open a scoreless game with 21 straight points. Jonathan Patrick and DJ Robinson each picked off passes from Golden Knights quarterback Liam Nadler, including a 34-yard return by Patrick. The Huskies picked up their ninth interception on the year when Patrick ran back a 34-yard INT for a touchdown vs. Millersville. BU now ranks second in the PSAC with nine interceptions behind, only IUP (12). Tomas Cabrera leads the team with three picks while Patrick, Robinson and Tyler Knoblauch each have two.

RUN THE BALL, STOP THE RUNThe Huskies have become one of the most successful programs in the PSAC thanks in large part to a physical style and ability to control at the point of attack. This has been evident so far through six games this year as the Huskies have been one of the best teams in the nation at running the ball as well as stopping the run. Bloomsburg ranks fifth in the country in rushing offense at 341.2 yards per game on the ground. On the other side of the ball, BU has stifled the running game of opponents, allowing only 67.7 yards per contest, a mark which ranks third in the country behind only Shepherd (27.2 ypg) and Lenoir-Rhyne (64.2 ypg).

WORKING QUICKThough Bloomsburg is known for its bruising running attack, the Huskies have been able to score quickly as often as any team in the PSAC this season. So far on the year, Bloomsburg has tallied 38 scoring drives – of those scoring drives, 24 have taken just 2:59 or less including 15 scoring drives of under two minutes.

With his 21-yard field goal at Kutztown on Sept. 21, Danny Fisher broke the all-time conference record for career 3-pointers, connecting on his 51st with the Huskies. The previous mark had been held by Ed Detwiler of ESU for over two decades. Fisher captured the career kicking points record the previous week at Edinboro. He currently leads all Division II active players in field goals and is sixth among active players in all divisions. Among active leaders in total points in Division II, Franklyn Quiteh

leads all players with 456 and Fisher ranks fourth at 323.

FISHER ON MITCHELL AWARD HONOREE LISTDanny Fisher was named to the Fred Mitchell Award honoree list for the month of September for his work on the field and in the community. Fisher kicked five of six field goal attempts and finished the month with 37 total points. Away from the field, he raised over $5,000 for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation through his ‘Kick for a Cure’ initiative. For each field goal and extra point he kicks this season, he will donate money to the ASF toward raising awareness and work on a cure for Angelman Syndrome. For more information, visit www.angelman.org.

CONVERTING ON THIRD DOWNBloomsburg has converted 50 percent (36 of 72) of its third down situations this year, the best mark in the PSAC. West Chester stands second by converting 46.8 percent (36 of 77) of its third downs.

TURNING RED INTO POINTSWhen in the red zone this season, the Huskies have not squandered scoring opportunities. Through the first five games of the year, Bloomsburg has scored in 23 of its 25 trips to the red zone, good for a 92 percent success rate. The Huskies have punched into the end zone 18 out of their 25 red zone trips. The only two times BU has not scored in the red zone was while running out the clock at the end of the game vs. Stonehill and at Gannon.

IT ALL STARTS UP FRONTThe strength of the Huskies for many years has stemmed from its running game. Quiteh is the first to credit the work of the line in front of him for their part in his record-setting career. The veteran trio of Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck have 103 starts among them during their BU careers. Steck leads the team with 41 consecutive starts, never missing from the starting lineup during his three-plus year tenure in maroon and gold. Last season, the Huskies ranked fifth in Division II rushing offense at 315.75 yards per game and set the single-season PSAC rushing record with 3,789 yards. The O-Line also surrendered just two sacks over the season’s final seven games, leading the PSAC and ranking seventh in Division II at 0.67 sacks allowed per game.

DEFENSE STEALS THE SHOWWhen Bloomsburg traveled to PSAC West foe Gannon in Week 5, many figured it would be a shootout with both teams entering the game averaging 40 points per game through the first four weeks. The Huskies defense stifled Gannon, limiting the Golden Knights to season-lows in rushing yards (72), total yards (276) and points (14).

FIRST TRIPS TO PAYDIRTThree Huskies scored their first career touchdowns in the 38-14 victory at Gannon in Week 5. Redshirt sophomore fullback Derek Burkhard made his first career reception one to remember by taking a screen pass 42 yards for the game’s first scoring play. Redshirt

freshman tight end Aaron Allison found the end zone in the fourth quarter with a juggling 20-yard touchdown catch. Finally, redshirt freshman running back Joe Parsnik broke off a 34-yard scoring run to finish the scoring – also registering his longest career rush in the process.

LOWERY SEES FIRST ACTIONSophomore defensive tackle Jeremiah Lowery saw his first action of the year at Gannon after missing the first four weeks of the year due to an injury suffered in pre-season. Lowery made two tackles on the day as the Huskies worked him back into the defensive rotation. The Sharon Hill native was a strong contributor as a freshman last fall, making 21 tackles with 0.5 sacks and a fumble recovery in his Huskies debut.

THEY KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNINGThe 2013 season is the 40th in the history of Redman Stadium. In 2012 Bloomsburg was 5-0 at home, the 10th year the team has been unde-feated. The Huskies all-time record in Redman Stadium is now 137-66-4.

ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICEFranklyn Quiteh has been a model of consistency during his time in maroon and gold. The senior running back has set the school and conference records for career rushing yardage due to his consistency – his 251-yard performance on the ground at Gannon last week marked the 37th time Quiteh has surpassed 100 yards rushing. For his career entering the ESU game, Quiteh has rushed for 100 or more yards in 37 of his 41 games with the Huskies. The Gannon game was the 10th time Quiteh has gone over 200 yards rushing in a contest including back-to-back games.

STARTING OFF RIGHTWith the Huskies win over Lock Haven in Week 4, interim head coach Paul Darragh became the first coach in Bloomsburg history to begin his tenure at the helm of the program with a 4-0 record. Jack Yohe (1952), Thornley Booth (1926) and George Harry (1909) previously started 3-0 but all lost their fourth games.

PUTTING IN EARLY WORKFranklyn Quiteh put up 159 yards during the first half of the Week 4 win over Lock Haven on the way to 205 yards on the day in just 11 carries. The performance put Quiteh over 100 yards rushing before halftime for the 15th time in his career – it was the second-most first half yards in Quiteh’s BU career, following only his 186-yard first half showing in a win at Millersville on Sept. 25, 2010. The all-time PSAC leading rusher also now has 10 200-yard games in his career with a career-high of 282 coming vs. East Stroudsburg on Oct. 13, 2012.

QUITEH EARNS PSAC HONORSBloomsburg University senior running back Franklyn Quiteh earned co-PSAC East Offensive Athlete of the Week honors following his 251-yard performance in the Huskies’ win at Gannon on Oct. 5. The leading active rusher among all NCAA divisions carried 24 times for

251 yards and two touchdowns – averaging 10.5 yards per rush including a long of 61 yards. A 16-yard reception gave him 267 all purpose yards on the afternoon. Sharing the Eastern Division offensive honors this week is East Stroudsburg quarterback Matt Soltes, who threw for 444 yards and four touchdowns in a win over Clarion.

QUITEH 6KWith 205 yards rushing against Lock Haven, Franklyn Quiteh became the first player in PSAC history to rush for 6,000 yards in a career. He finished the day with 6,116 yards and is now one of 13 players in Division II history to reach the milestone.

IT’S OLD HATDanny Fisher has kicked at least one field goal in 28 games, stretching out his own school record. He broke the record with two field goals in the season-opening win vs. Stonehill, breaking the previous mark of 24 set by Jon Koenig from 2006-09. He enters the ESU game with 53 career 3-pointers.

LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARDThe Week 4 offensive output by the Husky offense was one to remember, posting 56 points against Lock Haven. It marked the first time Bloomsburg’s offense hit the 50-point total since scoring 55 in a win at West Chester on Oct. 22, 2011 when it rallied from 35 points down to tally the biggest rally in Division II history. The last time Bloomsburg scored more than 56 points was in a 61-35 win vs. Kutztown on Nov. 6, 2010.

GETTING OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOTRedshirt freshman Andrew Harris made a strong first impression during Bloomsburg’s season-opening win over Stonehill, debuting with the Huskies by leading the team in tackles with eight along with a tackle for loss and pass breakup. Harris earned the start in Week One as a late addition to the lineup at the will linebacker position. In Week Two, Harris backed up Garrett Pope, but continued to make waves. He quickly established a new career-high in tackles with 11 including 1.5 tackles for loss. After six games, Harris ranks second on the team in tackles with 44, behind only team captain middle linebacker Justin Shirk (49).

WAGNER HANDLES THE PUNTINGOne of two true freshmen on the active roster to start the season, Will Wagner has taken

over the Huskies’ punt duties. The native of Wernersville has impressed in his first six games, averaging 39.1 yards per punt in 21 attempts. He booted a new career long of 59 yards at Kutztown, one of three punts of 50-plus yards, and has pinned the opposition inside the 20 10 times.

HUTTON’S TRIPLE PLAYGlenn Hutton Jr. made his three receptions vs. Lock Haven count, taking all of them in for touchdowns. He caught three balls on the day for 67 yards and touchdown grabs of 33, 25 and nine yards respectively. The showing not only was a career-best for the senior receiver, but also the first time a Huskies player has hauled in three touchdowns in a game since Kyle Fisher accomplished the feat vs. LIU Post on Sept. 22, 2012.

CONTINUING THE TRADITIONWhile there is new leadership for the Huskies on the sidelines this season under interim head coach Paul Darragh, much has remained the same with the BU attack. Under former head coach Danny Hale, the Huskies made their name with a power running game. During Hale’s tenure, 23 separate players put up at least one game of 100 or more yards rushing. Following Joe Parsnik’s 101-yard performance vs. Lock Haven, Darragh already has three 100 yard rushers with Parsnik, Franklyn Quiteh and Dai’Shon Munger.

PARSNIK HAS CAREER DAYRedshirt freshman Joe Parsnik rushed for a career-high 101 yards on 14 carries vs. Lock Haven in Week 4. Parsnik has given the Huskies a third option out of the backfield this season, averaging 6.0 yards per carry with 320 yards through six games. He picked up a career-high 18 carries vs. Millersville in Week 6.

GOING THE DISTANCEThe Huskies sealed their victory at Kutztown with a back-breaking 98-yard touchdown drive in seven plays, capped by a 7-yard pass from Tim Kelly to Tony Peregrin. The scoring drive gave BU a 24-6 lead early in the fourth quarter and marks the longest scoring drive for Bloomsburg this season. The drive featured a 65-yard run from Franklyn Quiteh, also the longest play from scrimmage this year from the Huskies. The impressive drive was the first scoring drive by the Huskies of 90 yards or

The Huskies have scored 258 points in the first six games, second-most in school history (283 in 1996).

Middle linebacker Justin Shirk leads the team with 49 tackles this year - and he has 198 for his career at BU.

Bloomsburg allows just 67.7 yards rushing to opponents - a total which ranks third in the nation.

Bloomsburg has clinched its 15th consecutive winning season, a school record and longest active streak in the PSAC.

National Pollslonger since doing so in a win over Gannon on Sept. 29, 2012 and the longest scoring drive since going 99 yards in nine plays in a 38-18 win vs. Shippensburg on Oct. 15, 2011.

COLORING RECORD BOOK MAROON & GOLDFranklyn Quiteh has plenty of BU company atop the PSAC rushing list. Now that Quiteh owns the career conference rushing record, the Huskies occupy three out of the top four all-time PSAC rushing spots - Quiteh, Jamar Brittingham (5,689 yards from 2004-07, second) and Irv Singler (5,105 from 1994-97, fourth).

HUSKIES START NEW FACESWhen Bloomsburg took the field for the season opener vs. Stonehill, eight first-time starters were in the Huskies lineup. Ryan Geiger started at left guard and Dakota Hoagland was at right tackle. Connor Gades got the start at wide receiver and Jack Sandherr was the other offensive newcomer at tight end. Defensively, Larry Webster transitioned to a starting role at defensive end, Shawn Mitchell was at defensive tackle, Andrew Harris at will linebacker and Dylan Spangler at the buck linebacker. All of the offensive newcomers are redshirt sophomores as is Harris while Webster is a graduate student and Mitchell and Spangler are both redshirt juniors. Three more players made their first career start the following week at Edinboro when redshirt sophomore Garrett Pope started at the will linebacker and fellow redshirt sophomores Will Ridgeway and Donovan Morris got the starts at defensive tackle and safety respectively.

WEBSTER WINS DEFENSIVE AOWLarry Webster earned PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honors following Week 3 after scoring four sacks at Kutztown. The tally marked a new career-high for Webster, beating his previous best of three sacks set at Slippery Rock last season. Along with the four sacks, he also had five tackles, a pass breakup and an additional quarterback hurry while the sacks totaled a loss of 28 yards for the Kutztown offense.

CABRERA, QUITEH SWEEP PSAC EAST WEEKLY AWARDSThe Huskies swept the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Week awards in Week 2 with Franklyn Quiteh earning offensive honors and Tomas Cabrera snagging the defensive accolades. Quiteh’s selection was a near no-brainer after leading the conference with 231 rushing yards along with three touchdowns at Edinboro while establishing a new conference career rushing record. Cabrera earned his award by registering eight tackles to go along with a fumble recovery and interception, both in key situations, to help lead the Huskies to a 47-35 victory on the road.

UNWELCOME GUESTSChances are Edinboro won’t soon forget its meeting with visiting Bloomsburg in Week 2. Not only did Franklyn Quiteh rush for 231 yards to break the PSAC career rushing record that afternoon, but the effort spearheaded Bloomsburg’s 383 yards of rushing. The 383 yards surrendered on the ground by the Fighting Scots were the third-most ever by any Edinboro opponent.

MR. ALL-AMERICANOffensive tackle Brian Clarke has established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the country over the past two seasons and recently earned a bit of national recognition. Clarke earned a spot on this year’s preseason All-American list produced by The Sporting News.

CABRERA MAKES AN IMPACTJunior safety Tomas Cabrera is new to the Huskies, but isn’t without college experience. Cabrera comes to Bloomsburg after transferring from Division I Temple. At Temple, Cabrera played primarily on special teams. He was one of five true freshmen to see action for the Owls in 2010, forcing two fumbles, and also played in six games in 2011. Cabrera joined the Huskies this spring and immediately made a big play in his first game – a momentum-changing interception vs. Stonehill. With the Skyhawks looking to tie or take the lead in Huskies territory late in the first quarter, Cabrera made a diving interception at his own 16 to end the threat. Bloomsburg would score a touchdown on its next possession and never relinquished control.

DII’S FINESTDuring preseason, D2Football.com unveiled its top 100 players in all of NCAA Division II. The Huskies were extremely well represented in that poll, placing three players in the top 11 and five in the top 100 – including taking the top spot. Senior running back Franklyn Quiteh earned the honor as the No. 1 player in the poll, being credited for his speed, vision and ability to break tackles. The two-time Harlon Hill finalist was joined by defensive end Larry Webster (No. 9), offensive guard Brian Clarke (No. 11), center Chris Steck (No. 94) and defensive tackle Chris Kennedy (No. 96). When the D2Football.com preseason All-America teams came out in August, the Huskies also had strong representation - Quiteh and Clarke were each first team selections while Steck and Webster landed on the second team.

CALL ‘EM CAPTAINSSeniors Franklyn Quiteh and Chris Steck along with junior Justin Shirk have been named tri-captains for this season. Steck also served as a team captain a season ago.

HUSKIES TO APPEAR ON NATIONAL TVBloomsburg’s game vs. Shippensburg at Redman Stadium on Halloween Night will air live on the CBS Sports Network at 8:00 p.m. The Huskies will be looking to avenge two losses vs. Ship last year.

PSAC PRESEASON POLLBloomsburg was picked second in the Eastern Division in the 2013 PSAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll which was released at PSAC Media Day in August. It marks the eighth straight year BU has been been picked to finish first or second in the division. Shippensburg, last year’s PSAC East champ, took the top spot with six first-place votes while Bloomsburg and third-place West Chester snagged the remaining top tallies. In the West, defending conference champion IUP was a nearly unanimous favorite with seven first-place votes.

Bob Dunkelberger

The Huskies have scored 258 points in the first six games, the second-highest total in school history. The record is the 283 scored in 1996.

The 31-0 halftime lead on Saturday was the 16th time since 1995 Bloomsburg has led by at least 30 points at the half.

The Huskies on Saturday narrowly missed their first shutout since 2008 but did hold the Marauders to seven. This ended a streak of 17 consecutive games surrendering 10 or more points, the second longest in school history behind a 23-game stretch from 1989 to 1991. The major difference between the two is Bloomsburg’s won-loss record in the 17 games was 15-2, while during the record streak it was 7-16.

Bloomsburg has won six consecutive games to begin the season for the 10th time in school history, third year in a row and the sixth time since 2005. The other four years were in 1948, 1950 and 1951 under Robert Redman and 1985 under George Landis.

The football team has clinched its 15th consecutive winning season, a school record and the longest such active streak in the PSAC. The previous school record was 10 seasons in a row from 1946 to 1955.

The upcoming game with East Stroudsburg is the 85th in the series between the two schools, dating back to the first meeting in 1907. Bloomsburg’s record in the previous 84 games is 39-43-2, 20-22-1 at home, 19-19-1 on the road and 0-2 on a neutral field. The Huskies have won 7 straight games in the series and 9 consecutive at East Stroudsburg since the last loss in 1993.

Paul Darragh was named interim head coach of Bloomsburg University in February 2013 and overall will be starting his 17th season with the Huskies this year. Darragh has served as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator for the last 16 years. Under Darragh’s leadership the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top-half of the PSAC in total defense seven of the past 11 seasons, including back-to-back second place finishes in 2000 and 2001 and a second place in 2009. The Huskies have also ranked among the best in the PSAC in run defense finishing first or second five times, including second in two of the last four seasons. The 2009 Huskies finished third nationally in scoring defense (13.36/game), pacing the PSAC. BU also led the conference in sacks, ranking 14th nationally (3.09 per game). In 2010 the Huskies were eighth in Division II in rushing defense (85.38 yards per game). Overall under Darragh’s leadership, the Bloomsburg defense finished in the top-15 in NCAA Division II six times since the 2000 season. Darragh has also coached 51 first team All-PSAC performers, seven All-Americans and two PSAC East Defensive Players of the Year in Anthony Smith (2009) and Mike Va-ranavage (2010). Prior to Bloomsburg, Darragh worked for two years at Indiana (PA) as the linebackers coach. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Temple from 1987-89. From there, Darragh coached the linebackers at Northeastern and Gannon before being promoted to defensive coordinator at Gannon. He moved from Gannon to the defensive coordinator post at William Paterson College before joining the IUP staff. A three-year starter and captain for Temple, he graduated in 1985 after earning All-East honors as an inside linebacker. Darragh and his wife Yelena live in Orangeville with their children Sasha, Lemuel and Gabriel.
