ONE OF THE NATION’S BESTThe Huskies have been one of the most successful programs in not only the PSAC and the region but the nation over the past decade-plus. Since the beginning of the 2000 season, only three Division II teams have more victories than Bloomsburg’s 130.

BU PSAC TITLE GAME HISTORYBloomsburg will play in its fourth-ever PSAC Championship Game on Saturday. The Huskies are 1-2 in the “State Game,” with their last appearance coming in 2010. Bloomsburg fell 21-14 to California (PA) in 1984 but bounced back at home in 1985 with a 31-9 win over IUP. The Huskies were defeated 56-37 in 2010 at Mercyhurst. In the 2010 State Game, Franklyn Quiteh rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown. The only other starter from that game still on the Huskies roster is center Chris Steck, although Glenn Hutton Jr., Matt Wenrich, Dylan Spangler, Matt Feiler, Chris Kennedy, Ian Murray and Danny Fisher all played in that game with Fisher kicking a 26-yard field goal.

CONTRAST OF STYLESSaturday’s PSAC Championship Game will see two teams with very different ways of finding success. Bloomsburg’s old-school run-first attack ranks fifth in the nation and first in the PSAC in rushing yards per game at 313.4. On the other side of things, the Huskies will face Slippery Rock’s explosive passing attack which ranks fourth in the nation and tops in the conference at 375.5 yards per game. Bloomsburg averages 482.9 yards of total offense, fourth in the PSAC and 24th in the nation, while Slippery Rock is the nation’s most prolific offense at 573.4 yards of offense per contest.

FIRST HALF FIREWORKSBoth Bloomsburg and Slippery Rock have been outstanding in seizing control of games during the first half this season. The Huskies have scored opponents 221-78 in the opening half while Slippery Rock has bludgeoned its opposition before halftime 285-67.

PLAYING THE SPOILERBloomsburg’s victory over No. 8 West Chester last week was the first for the Huskies over a top 10 team in nearly three years. The last victory over a team ranked within the national AFCA top 10 came on Nov. 20, 2010 in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs when the Huskies knocked off No. 7 California (PA), 28-26. Bloomsburg also defeated a fifth-ranked Cal squad, 24-17, on Sept. 6, 2008 and No. 6 Shepherd (W. Va.) in the 2006 NCAA Playoffs.

TO 2,000 AND BEYONDFranklyn Quiteh enters Saturday with 1,921 yards of total offense this year. He’s seeking his third season of 2,000 all-purpose yards – he totaled 2,206 last season and 2,062 in 2010. The school record for single season all-purpose yards is 2,563 set by Jamar Brittingham in 2005.

PATRICK PICKS ANOTHERSenior safety Jonathan Patrick ranks tied second in the PSAC with five interceptions and tied first in touchdowns with two. His 45-yard INT and touchdown return during the fourth quarter at West Chester was the final blow in sealing BU’s upset victory over No. 8 WCU.

M A K I N G H I S T O R YSenior running back Franklyn Quiteh is re-writing the PSAC

record books this season by setting the conference’s all-time record for most career rushing yards. Quiteh broke the record with an eight-yard carry in the fourth quarter at Edinboro in

Week 2 as part of a 231-yard performance. Quiteh is currently the leading active rusher in all NCAA divisions (FBS, FCS,

II, III) - by a wide margin. His career total is over 1,000 yards more than his closest follower, Melikke Van Alstyne of Division III’s Framingham State (5,879). Quiteh also is the NCAA active leader in rushing yards per game (157.4), all-purpose yards (7,510), rushing touchdowns (82) and total

TDs (86). Quiteh has rushed for over 100 yards in 40 of 45 career games and 25 of the past 27.

ANOTHER RECORD-SETTING WEEK FOR QUITEHFranklyn Quiteh turned in yet another week for the record books in Week 10 at West Chester. With his 154 yards on the ground on the day, he moved from fifth to second all-time in Division II rushing and just the third player in D-II history to reach the 7,000-yard mark. He leapfrogged over Brian Shay (6,958 yards), Germaine Race (6,985) and Xavier Omon (7,084), joining Omon and Danny Woodhead (7,962) in one of the most elite clubs in college football - the 7,000-yard rushing club. Quiteh also set two more PSAC records in the West Chester game - his 86th overall touchdown gave him 518 career points, moving past former Husky Jamar Brittingham in both categories. Nearly the only school and conference rushing record yet to fall to Quiteh is that of rushing touchdowns. With 82 rushing scores in his career, Quiteh is just one away from Brittingham’s BU and PSAC record of 83.

QUITEH, SHIRK SWEEP PSAC WEEKLY AWARDSFor the second time this season, Franklyn Quiteh and Justin Shirk swept the PSAC East athlete of the week awards. Quiteh captured East Offensive honors with his 154 yards and touchdown against No. 8 West Chester. Shirk, meanwhile, set a career-high with 16 tackles vs. the Golden Rams and also made seven stops during the crucial fourth quarter. The pair also swept the East weekly awards following the Huskies’ Week 7 win at East Stroudsburg.

THEY’RE PRETTY GOOD TOOEntering the season, Bloomsburg was searching for a compliment to All-American tailback Franklyn Quiteh in the backfield. The Huskies have certainly found it, offering three strong options on the ground. Quiteh (1,756 yards), Dai’Shon Munger (644 yards) and Joe Parsnik (450 yards) have given the Huskies three rushers with at least 450 yards for the first time since 2008 when Derrick Price (1,279), Kenny Domzalski (878) and Dan Latorre (545) all reached the total.

With his 21-yard field goal at Kutztown on Sept. 21, Danny Fisher broke the all-time conference record for career 3-pointers, connecting on his 51st with the Huskies. The previous mark had been held by Ed Detwiler of ESU for over two decades. Fisher captured the career kicking points record the previous week at Edinboro. He currently leads all Division II active players in field goals and is seventh among active players in all divisions. Among active leaders in total points in Division II, Franklyn Quiteh

leads all players with 518 and Fisher ranks fifth at 349.

EXCELLENCE UP FRONTBloomsburg prides itself on the strength of its offensive line, and for good reason. The senior trio of Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck have 115 starts among them in their BU careers while Ryan Geiger and Dakota Hoagland have stepped into starting roles and continued the tradition this fall. As a unit, the starting five now has a combined 130 starts.

RG Brian Clarke (6-3, 290 senior)-36 career starts (three in 2009, has not missed a start since taking starting role to begin 2011)-2013 Sporting News preseason All-American-One of eight national finalists for 2012 Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year award-2012 D2Football.com second team All-American; Don Hansen NCAA All-America honorable mention; Daktronics All-American; PSAC East first team-2011 Daktronics All-Super Region One pick as well as Don Hansen All-Super Region one third team and All-PSAC East first team

RT Dakota Hoagland (6-4, 305 redshirt sophomore)-Started all 10 games this year-Saw time in eight games last season

IRONMAN STECKSenior center Chris Steck has turned in a tremendous career anchoring the often dominant Bloomsburg offensive line. The Mt. Carmel product stepped in as a freshman in 2010 and hasn’t missed a beat, starting 46 straight games. The multi-time All-PSAC East as well as 2012 NCAA All-Super Region I selection has been a key player in Bloomsburg’s ability to record 315.8 yards per game on the ground last season and over 313 yards per contest this year and has been in the lineup for all of Franklyn Quiteh’s record-setting career at running back.

NOT SO GOLDENBloomsburg denied rival West Chester its first 10-0 start since 1967 with its 31-28 upset last weekend. The Golden Rams had a familiar face on their roster at defensive end that year – Danny Hale, who was a three-year letterwinner for the Golden Rams from 1965-67 and would later go on to a legendary career as the Huskies’ all-time leader in coaching victories.

It was the first time WCU tasted defeat in 371 days – its last loss also came at the hands of Bloomsburg in a 24-23 decision last season at Redman Stadium. Last week’s win was the fourth straight for Bloomsburg in the series and marked only the second time BU has won back-to-back games at Farrell Stadium. In the process, Bloomsburg improved its all-time record at West Chester to 7-28.

PINNING THEM DEEPOne of two true freshmen on the active roster to start the season, Will Wagner has taken over the Huskies’ punt duties. The native of Wernersville has impressed this season and he, along with some help from the rest of the special teams unit, was especially impressive in the Week 10 win at West Chester. Wagner pinned three straight second half punts inside the WCU 1-yard line to help the Huskies preserve a 31-28 victory. So far this season, Wagner averages 38.1 yards per punt in 35 attempts and has turned in 16 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. He booted a career long of 59 yards at Kutztown, one of five punts of 50-plus yards.

MOVING THE CHAINSThe Huskies tied their season-high for first downs in a game with 28 vs. West Chester, the third time the team has reached that total (vs. Stonehill, at East Stroudsburg). BU doubled up the Golden Rams 28-14 in first downs. The opposition low in first downs this season is Millersville’s 13 in Week 6.

DUO ON SENIOR BOWL WATCH LISTBloomsburg seniors Brian Clarke and Larry Webster have received spots on the 2014 Senior Bowl Watch List. The watch list includes more than 400 student athletes from nearly every level of college football. These are the players who are looking to fill the 110 roster spots that form the North and South squads for the nation’s premier all-star game. Rosters will be announced in January with the game held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 in Mobile, Ala., and televised on the NFL Network.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHINGBloomsburg failed to come away with points inside the red zone aside from situations when running out the clock for the first time last week at West Chester. A missed field goal in the first half forced the Huskies to leave a red zone possession with no points on the board for the first time in 39 tries this year. Bloomsburg also did not score in the red zone when running out the clock at the end of the game vs. Stonehill and at Gannon leaving the team officially 38 of 41 in the red zone this year, a 92.7 percent success rate. The team has scored 29 touchdowns and nine field goals in such situations on the season. Opponents, meanwhile, have not fared nearly as well – just a 56.5 percent success rate (13-for-23).

GREAT EIGHTWith his fourth straight season of over 1,000 yards rushing, Franklyn Quiteh has joined an elite group of only eight players in NCAA Division II history to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark four times. He joins Joique Bell, Wayne State (MI), 2006-09; Danny Woodhead, Chadron St., 2004-07; Chris Washington, Concord-St. Paul, 2000-03; Damian Beane, Shepherd, 1996-99; Jarrett Anderson, Truman, 1993-96; Jeremy Monroe, Michigan Tech, 1990-93 and Johnny Bailey, Texas A&M-Kingsville, 1986-89 as the only players to accomplish the feat. Bloomsburg alum Jamar Brittingham missed being the ninth player by just nine yards – he rushed for 991 yards as a freshman before surpassing 1,000 yards the next three seasons.

GROUND AND POUNDThe Huskies have had at least 30 rushing attempts in 46 straight games, dating back to Oct. 31, 2009 - a record that nearly was broken in Week 9 when Bloomsburg ran exactly 30 times vs. Shippensburg. All of those plays were not designed runs, however, as quarterback Tim Kelly was forced to scramble on multiple designed throws.

HALLOWEEN FRIGHTFUL FOR HUSKIESBloomsburg’s Week 9 loss to Shippensburg brought several statistical anomalies for the Huskies – most notably on the ground. Bloomsburg’s 106 yards of rushing was the first time the Huskies have finished a game with fewer than 200 yards rushing since picking up just 76 at IUP on Sept. 15, 2011. Against Shippensburg, the Huskies rushed 30 times – continuing a streak of 45 straight games with at least 30 rushing attempts, but was the fewest runs for BU since the 27 the Huskies mounted vs. West Chester on Oct. 31, 2009. Further, the Huskies went scoreless into the locker room at halftime for the first time

since doing so on Nov. 27, 2010 at Mercyhurst – and their 258 yards of total offense were the fewest for a Huskies team since that same November 2010 game at Mercyhurst.Bloomsburg also saw its streak of 21 straight games with 20 or more points broken. The mark is a school record. The Huskies also had a school record streak of eight straight games with 30 or more points snapped on Halloween Night.

RUNNING TO DAYLIGHTEntering this week’s game vs. Slippery Rock, Bloomsburg has an on-going streak of 30 straight games with at least one rushing touchdown – the last time the Huskies failed to run for a score came on Sept. 15, 2011 at IUP.

Above, Randy Bullock returns an interception for the Huskies in the 1985 PSAC Championship Game won by BU over IUP.

The Huskies will honor their 11 seniors as part of Senior Day on Saturday. This year’s seniors are (left to right): Glenn Hutton Jr., Matt Wenrich, Larry Webster, Brian Clarke, Ian Murray, Danny Fisher, Jonathan Patrick, Franklyn Quiteh, Chris Kennedy and Chris Steck.

HUSKIES HONOR SENIORSThe Huskies will honor an outstanding class of 11 seniors as part of Senior Day on Saturday. This year’s seniors are: Glenn Hutton Jr. – In 43 games, the wide receiver has 55 catches and eight touchdowns, leading the team with 36 receptions this year. Franklyn Quiteh – The all-time PSAC leading rusher, the All-American running back is second all-time in Division II history in rushing and holds nearly every school and conference rushing record. Matt Wenrich – Wenrich has served a vital role as starting fullback playing in 37 games with three rushing touchdowns. Brian Clarke, Chris Steck, Matt Feiler – The offensive line trio has paved the way for the Huskies’ record-breaking rushing totals in recent years. For more, see page 5. Danny Fisher – Fisher owns the PSAC all-time records for career field goals and kicking points, ranking tied fifth in D-II history for field goals.

Larry Webster – In just his second season on the football field, Webster again ranks among the nation’s leaders in sacks with 10.5 this year. Jonathan Patrick – The safety has played in 37 games for the Huskies with nine interceptions and 107 tackles including five INTs this year. Chris Kennedy – An anchor for the defensive line, he has played in 46 games with 97 tackles and eight sacks. An All-PSAC East first team selection last year. Ian Murray – A key player in the success of Bloomsburg’s kicking game, he is a four-year starter for the Huskies as the long snapper.

NO RUSHERS TO 100Bloomsburg has not allowed a 100-yard rusher this season. The most yards by a single player on the ground against the Huskies came from the 95 yards Edinboro quarterback Cody Harris rushed for in BU’s Week 2 win. The last player to rush for more than 100 yards against Bloomsburg was Slippery Rock’s Akeem Satterfield who did so on Nov. 10, 2012. The defense was able to hold do-it-all West Chester running back Rondell White to 88 yards rushing a week ago.

AIRING IT OUTThe 32 pass attempts by Tim Kelly vs. Shippensburg were not only a career-high, but also the most for the Huskies since Pat Carey put up 37 pass attempts at Mercyhurst on Nov. 13, 2010.

MORE RECORDS FALL TO QUITEHFranklyn Quiteh had yet another day for the record books in Week 7 at East Stroudsburg, setting a new school record for rushing yards in a single game with 304. That broke the old record of 300 set by Jerry Marks vs. Mansfield in 1991. He had 28 carries, averaging 10.9 yards per rush and had eight carries of 15 or more yards. It was also his 11th game of over 200 yards rushing. Quiteh set the record wearing jersey No. 8 to honor the memory of friend and Pocono Mountain West high school teammate Jon Mangual who was killed in a 2008 automobile accident and is buried just outside ESU’s Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The performance allowed Quiteh to shatter a national record in the process - it was his 38th game of over 100 yards rushing in his career. Quiteh now has more 100 yard games than any other player in Division II history - the previous record of 37 was held by Danny Woodhead (Chadron St., 2004-07) and Xavier Omon (Northwest Mo. St., 2004-07). He now has 40 career 100-yard rushing games after rushing for 114 yards in Week 8 vs. Cheyney and 154 in Week 10 at West Chester.

In Week 9 vs. Shippensburg, he set the all-time PSAC record for career rushing attempts, entering Saturday’s game with 956. The old record of 943 was held by Gerald Thompson of Edinboro (1995-98).

LARRY THE SACK KINGSenior defensive end Larry Webster has drawn the attention of NFL scouts after transitioning to football last year. A former basketball player who owns the all-time Bloomsburg career record for blocked shots (175) and was the 2011-12 PSAC East Defender of the Year, he has 10.5 sacks for the year. He ranks second in the PSAC behind Shippensburg’s Jake Metz, who has 11 sacks. In Webster’s brief Huskies football career he has 24 sacks in 22 games. Webster has an NFL pedigree - his father, Larry Webster Sr., played 11 years at DE in the NFL, winning a Super Bowl with Baltimore in 2001. Nationally, Webster is tied fifth in sacks - St. Augustine’s Shonquez Nelson leads the nation with 13.0 sacks.

HUSKY-SIZED YARDAGEThe Huskies posted 627 yards of total offense in their win at ESU in Week 7, the second time this season the team has surpassed 600 total yards – also doing so in their 41-13 Week 1 win vs. Stonehill (642). For the year, Bloomsburg averages 482.9 yards per game, good for fifth in the PSAC. The school record for team yardage per game is 484.0 set during in 1996.

RUN THE BALL, STOP THE RUNThe Huskies have become one of the most successful programs in the PSAC thanks in large part to a physical style and ability to control at the point of attack. This has been evident so far through seven games this year as the Huskies have been one of the best teams in the nation at running the ball as well as stopping the run. BU has outrushed its opposition by a 3,134-806 margin on the year and has surrendered only three rushing touchdowns. Bloomsburg ranks fifth in the country in both rushing offense (313.4 yards/game) and rushing defense (80.6 yards/game allowed).

RUN, HUSKIES, RUNBloomsburg has established a new school record, rushing for more than 350 yards in a game five times this year. The Huskies broke the record of four set by the 2004 team in Week 7 when Bloomsburg finished with 389 yards on the ground at East Stroudsburg. BU also rushed for over 350 yards vs. Stonehill (457), Lock Haven (409), Edinboro (383) and Gannon (351). For the season, the Huskies average 313.4 yards per game on the ground. The school record is 315.8 set last year.

HUSKIES IN ELITE COMPANYWith their 52-38 win at East Stroudsburg in Week 7, the Huskies have won seven or more games in 15 consecutive seasons. Only five schools in the divisions of the NCAA have longer streaks: Florida, Florida State and Virginia Tech in the FBS; NW Missouri in Division II; and Mt. Union in Division III. The 15-year streak is also a PSAC record, breaking IUP’s mark of 13 set from 1984-1996.

SHIRK STARS IN THE MIDDLEJustin Shirk shifted to middle linebacker for this season and the team tri-captain has excelled in that role. The PSAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for Week 7 leads the team and ranks third in the PSAC with 98 tackles on the year after tying a then-career-high with 14 tackles vs. Shippensburg and establishing a new high vs. West Chester (16). A two-sport star, Shirk won the NCAA Division II national javelin championship in 2012, becoming the first Bloomsburg national champion in men’s track and field in school history.

PUTTING UP THE POINTSThe Huskies are 106-3 when scoring 40 points all-time following their 52-38 win at East Stroudsburg in Week 7. Bloomsburg has tallied 40 or more points in five of its first eight games this season - the all-time school record is seven games of 40+ points set three times (2005, 2007, 2012).

Fisher has made good on 10 of 14 field goal attempts. Away from the field, he raised over $5,000 for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation through his ‘Kick for a Cure’ initiative.

For each field goal and extra point he kicks this season, he will donate money to the ASF toward raising awareness and work on a cure for Angelman Syndrome, a neuro-genetic disorder with no cure requiring lifelong care for symptoms including developmental delay, lack of speech, seizures and walking and balance disorders. Fisher developed Kick for a Cure to help a close family friend who suffers from the disease. Fisher’s work with ‘Kick for a Cure’ was featured on the front page of the CBSSports.com College Football section.

Fisher has raised over $5,700 for the ASF. For more information, visit www.angelman.org.

WORKING QUICKThough Bloomsburg is known for its bruising running attack, the Huskies have been able to score quickly as often as any team in the PSAC this season. So far on the year, Bloomsburg has tallied 58 scoring drives – of those scoring drives, 35 have taken just 2:59 or less including 20 scoring drives of under two minutes.

IT’S OLD HATDanny Fisher has kicked at least one field goal in 31 games, stretching out his own school record. He broke the record with two field goals in the season-opening win vs. Stonehill, breaking the previous mark of 24 set by Jon Koenig from 2006-09. He enters the Slippery Rock game with 56 career 3-pointers.

Saturday’s victory over West Chester was only the second time in school history Bloomsburg has defeated an undefeated Golden Rams team. The first was in 1959, when a 6-0 West Chester team that had won 15 straight games overall and 18 con-secutive conference games came to Bloomsburg and lost 13-10. The Huskies finished that season with a record of 3-4-1.

Bloomsburg has now defeated West Chester four consecutive times, the second longest streak in school history behind the five straight from 1993 to 1997.

The three-point victory by the Huskies over the 9-0 Golden Rams was payback for 2008, when West Chester came to Blooms-burg and beat the 9-0 Huskies by three, 24-21. The one difference is that Bloomsburg came into the 2013 game 8-1, while in 2008 West Chester was 7-2.

The 572 yards of total offense Bloomsburg ran up on Saturday is the most they have ever had against West Chester. The only other times they have compiled 500 yards on the Rams were in 2005 (502), 2010 (510) and 2011 (514). The 310 rushing yards are the second most, behind only the 335 in the 2010 game.

The Huskies have scored 394 points in their first 10 games, the third-highest total in school history. The top two are the 400 scored in 1996 and the 398 in 2007.

Paul Darragh was named interim head coach of Bloomsburg University in February 2013 and overall will be starting his 17th season with the Huskies this year. Darragh has served as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator for the last 16 years. Under Darragh’s leadership the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top-half of the PSAC in total defense seven of the past 11 seasons, including back-to-back second place finishes in 2000 and 2001 and a second place in 2009. The Huskies have also ranked among the best in the PSAC in run defense finishing first or second five times, including second in two of the last four seasons. The 2009 Huskies finished third nationally in scoring defense (13.36/game), pacing the PSAC. BU also led the conference in sacks, ranking 14th nationally (3.09 per game). In 2010 the Huskies were eighth in Division II in rushing defense (85.38 yards per game). Overall under Darragh’s leadership, the Bloomsburg defense finished in the top-15 in NCAA Division II six times since the 2000 season. Darragh has also coached 51 first team All-PSAC performers, seven All-Americans and two PSAC East Defensive Players of the Year in Anthony Smith (2009) and Mike Va-ranavage (2010). Prior to Bloomsburg, Darragh worked for two years at Indiana (PA) as the linebackers coach. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Temple from 1987-89. From there, Darragh coached the linebackers at Northeastern and Gannon before being promoted to defensive coordinator at Gannon. He moved from Gannon to the defensive coordinator post at William Paterson College before joining the IUP staff. A three-year starter and captain for Temple, he graduated in 1985 after earning All-East honors as an inside linebacker. Darragh and his wife Yelena live in Orangeville with their children Sasha, Lemuel and Gabriel.
