OOThe process of the project was register from the starting point till the end, allowing to see the modifications from the first abstract idea to the final outcome. At the beginning it was important to consider the void spaces between the buildings and the existing courtyards. Through the process the idea of the Void was transformed into a more practical and technical approach, “the bridge”, which allows views to the inner courtyard from the street resolving a clean and transparent entrance. From the outside the new building is light and transparent and dialogues in opposition with the old academic building of the bank. Both of them only merge in the new space formed by the inner courtyard of the bank and the main exhibition space.

The new building was conceived as a new spatial situation to difference itself form the bank of Spain. Therefore a new space is connected to the inner courtyard of the bank enhancing the existing space and allowing both buildings to work as one. The new building itself continues with the differentiation from the existing one dialoguing by opposition, instead of a heavy and massive building the addition presents a light facade and the structure is resolved by a bridge allowing visitors to see through the building and in the upper floors to consolidate the incomplete line of facades. The entrance consists in two levels one into the urban lounge and into to the old building and the other one into the cafe and the foyer for the audiosivual space.
