Dear Friends and Families of St. Alphonsus Parish School,

Welcome to St. Al’s 25th Gala Auction, Wings for the Future. Built in 1923, our

school house is a treasure in the heart of Ballard, and this Gala is our most

celebrated evening of friendship and joy.

I’ve told many folks that this job is a dream come true for me and my family.

My work to date has been very rewarding, and yet we have so much good work

ahead of us. We are blessed with Fr. Shane’s guidance and love, the support of

our parish community and the many splendid gifts of our parents and families.

The success of tonight’s auction will determine the level of learning experiences

we are able to deliver to our children. Together we can make St. Alphonsus the

premier Catholic school in Seattle.

Recent improvements:

In an effort to improve communication, we’ve redesigned our school website

and rolled out an electronic grading program complete with parent viewer.

School house enhancements include ceiling mounted projectors in every

classroom, our new art room cabinets and sink, our new nurses station, and our

new drinking fountains on the 2nd and 3rd floor. From what I’ve been told, our

lovely building looks better than it has in years. Now is the time we keep the

good work flowing, and we need your help.

Fund-a-Dream: Safety First

Your generous financial support tonight will allow us to place a phone in every

teaching space, upgrade an intercom system to allow for instant communication,

replace our pre-school entrance doors, improve our security and alarm systems,

and replace old and worn carpets in our classrooms.

education they deserve.

Celebration time! I am excited to join with you in rejoicing for the

blessing that is St. Alphonsus Parish School. As a Catholic

community, we are united in our praise of how our school helps us to

give glory to God by forming relationships through a common goal:

the amazing gift of Catholic education! Through our school’s

commitment to Christ, we will grow together as God’s family, His

chosen ones who do His will.

The 2013 Auction Gala is a praiseworthy event that supports a just

cause: Our School! So let us raise our paddles up in blessing and

extend our charity to end the night with noble treasure.

Principal Matt, for his brotherhood and all staff, teachers and students

for making our school Ballard’s hidden gem. May our Heavenly

Silent Auction Write your bid number on the bid sheet in the space next to the price you wish to pay. You may skip spaces if you like. Items can be bought out at the guaranteed bid price. Notice of each section’s closing will be given approximately 5 minutes before closing. Closing times are listed on the pages where the auction items are listed.

Live Auction To bid on an item, raise your bid card with your number facing the podium. Keep it raised until the Auctioneer acknowledges you. Bidding is closed by the Auctioneer. General Rules Your bid on the Silent Auction Bid Sheet or Verbal Bid on the Live Auction constitutes a legal contract to buy. Payment may be made by cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. Payment in full is due by the close of the evening. Cashiers will be available after the live section is done. Please make sure all checks are payable to St. Alphonsus Parents’ Club. All sales are final. No exchanges or refunds on items unless otherwise noted. Values on items are list prices stated by donors. All items and services must be claimed and used by the expiration date noted by the donor or one (1) year from the date of purchase, whichever is sooner. Reservations for trips, vacations, and tickets to performances must be mutually arranged with the donor. Restaurant meals do not include alcoholic beverages, tax, or gratuity unless otherwise indicated. Each person issued a bid number assumes all risks and hazards related to the auction and to the items purchased at the auction. Each bidder agrees to hold harmless from any liability arising there from the Auction Committee, the Parents’ Club, St. Alphonsus Parish School, St. Alphonsus Parish, and all volunteers associated with the auction. Please take your purchases with you unless they are too large to transport. Please arrange for storage of larger items with security and arrange for pick up of those items by 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20st, 2013. We bear no responsibility for any item left behind. Gift certificates for intangible items will be distributed upon payment. Items can only be removed from the premises by exhibiting a PAID receipt from an auction cashier.

We reserve the right to withdraw any item from sale prior to the call for bids.

Express Checkout: If you want to avoid standing in line to pay at the end of our auction, just give us your credit card at registration! That is all there is for you to do- let us swipe your credit card at the start of the auction and you will not have to stand in line to pay at the end of the auction. Then feel free to bid and contribute throughout the auction. The total amount of your purchases and donations will be charged to your credit card.

Fund a Dream: What is Fund a Dream? Every year as a community we raise money for specific school needs that the school would not otherwise be able to afford. Our great need this year is to make our children safer at our school. With your help we will install:

A Comprehensive PA System,

Phones in all the Classrooms,

External Security Enhancements, and

Replace Unhealthy Classroom Carpets Why is this our specific need? Nothing can be more important than keeping our children safe, secure and healthy while at school. We need to be able to communicate throughout the school, from the office to the third floor. We will be able to do that with a PA system and phones in the classrooms. We need to be able to see who is on campus. We will be able to do that with new doors, especially new doors with windows in the preschool and additional security cameras. We need our students to be in a healthy environment. We will ensure that by replacing very old, soiled carpets in 12 classrooms.

Need more reasons? If you give at least $100 to Fund a Dream you will have the opportunity to be a part of “Heads and Tails” during the live auction. Get up and try to win or just enjoy watching your fellow donors.

Raffle: During the Silent Auction, there will be an opportunity to purchase a “Golden Ticket” from a raffle seller for your chance to choose one Live Item. Tickets will be $50.00 each and only 100 tickets will be available. Ticket sellers will have

Raffle Sheets for buyers to record their name and bidder number. The winning bidder number will be drawn and announced at the beginning of the Live Auction. There is a prize for a 2nd raffle winner, a new tablet computer! Exclusions: the Holland America Cruise and all Class Art Projects are not eligible in this raffle. “Head or Tails” Contest: During the Live Auction, there will also be an chance to buy an opportunity to play “Heads or Tails”. Raise your bid card at least at the $100 level of the Fund A Dream to participate. During the live Auction, the auctioneer will ask all “Heads or Tails” participants to stand and put their hands on their heads or their tails. The auctioneer will then flip a coin and announce whether the coin came up heads or tails. Those with their hands on the “winning end” stay standing, all others sit down. The Auctioneer continues to do this, thus eliminating players. The last player standing who has selected the right “end” wins.

Wine Wall: The wine wall is back! For $15.00 you can choose a bottle from the wall. All wine will be wrapped but you may win a bottle valued at $40.00! Dessert Dash: At the Gala, each table will have a “Dessert Dash” Sheet for guests to sign and record your name and bidder number. Guests seated at the same table team together to win delectable desserts. The VIP table chooses first. The table with the top dollar amount pledged chooses second. The table with the second place amount chooses third and so on. Thank you to all the bakers!

Table King/Queen: When seated at the Gala, take a peek under you dinner plate. If you see a golden star, you are the King or Queen of your table! It’s your turn to shine and rally your table for the Dessert Dash and answer questions about the Gala.

Group Experiences, Parties and Dinners: Plan on some great fun! Coordinate with your friends or family to celebrate together at one of our fabulous offerings.
