Pre -Race Day and Race Day! GO the DISTANCE for CHARITY

PRE-RACE DAY, May 25 Race Check-In & Packet Pickup

We recommend attending Race Check-In and picking up your packet on Saturday, May 25 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Atkinson Presbyterian Church, 508 East 5th Street. The pasta dinner is cancelled due to lack of interest.

ON RACE DAY, May 26

Timeline 6:00 am – 7:00 am Race Check-In & Packet Pickup – located in Tech 1st building (northwest corner of Main St. and State St.) 102 North Main, Atkinson 7:25 am – National Anthem 7:30 am – Half Marathon start 7:35 am – 5K Run start (Strollers and baby joggers allowed and will start at the back of the pack.) 7:40 am – 2.5 Mile Walk start (Strollers and baby joggers allowed and will start at the back of the pack.) 8:00 am – Noon Free breakfast for athletes and a free will donation for their guests – Knights of Columbus Hall located one block west and ½ block south of the finish line. Noon – Awards ceremony at the finish line

FESTIVAL OF ARTS & AG 7:30 am – 3:00 pm located east of the finish line on State St.

When and where is the race start? The race will start and finish at the intersection of Main Street and State Street (102 North Main). We recommend arriving about an hour early to give you enough time to park and prepare for the race. (Port-a-Potties are near the start line).

Where should I line up to get ready for the start? Half Marathon runners will line up first at the start line. No walkers allowed for the half marathon. 5K Runners should line up AFTER the half marathon runners have all crossed the starting line. 2.5 Mile Walkers should line up AFTER the 5K runners have all crossed the starting line.

Frequently Asked Questions Does this event benefit a charity? Yes, this event is a charity benefit for the West Holt Medical Services Foundation. All net proceeds will benefit the Dolores Batenhorst Keating Memorial Scholarship Fund. More information about Dolores and the fund can be found at the charity’s website www.westholtmed.org on the Foundation’s section of the website. Who are the underwriters for the Festival of Races? Keating Resources, Mike and Susan Flynn, Jeff and Laurie Lieswald, Robert and Denise Litz, Steve and Mari Osborne, Osborne Construction, Inc., Pinnacle Bank and an anonymous business. Are there any special themes for this race where participants should dress up? We don’t have a certain theme, but costumes and fun themes are welcome!! Is the course USA Track and Field Certified? No, not this year. Race officials will consider this for future races if athletes recommend we do so. Is there any registration on race day? Only from 6:00 am – 7:00 am. Anyone still in line at 7:00 am will not be able to register. Can someone else pick up my packet? Yes, as long as they know your name, birthday and address.

How many aid stations will there be on the course? See enclosed map for aid station locations. Half Marathon: Water and Gatorade will be available at all Aid Stations (three). Please note the course loops twice. 5K and 2.5M Walk: Water and Gatorade will be at the finish line Aid Station.

Bathrooms? There will be 1 porta-potty at each aid station and 3 at the start and finish line. See enclosed map for locations. Will there be gear check? Yes, gear check is available at the Gazebo located at the southwest corner of Main Street and State Street. This is near the start and finish line. An official plastic bag will be provided that has your bib number written on the bag. You will need to present your bib in order to retrieve your gear. Official bags are available at Race Check-In. Is the course iPod friendly? Yes, you are more than welcome to wear an iPod or MP3 player. Will there be a pace team? No, not this year. Race officials will consider this for future races if athletes recommend we provide that. Where should I park? On residential streets. This is a small town and is not far to walk most places. Is there any special merchandise for sale? If you purchased a t-shirt through the registration process, you will be given your t-shirt when you pick up your race packet.

Frequently Asked Questions Is there pre-race water available? Yes, located at the water station south of the start line. There is water bottles or cups of water. Are there directional signs on the course? There are yard signs indicating the directions for each course. There are mile marker signs. There are signs indicating a water station is ahead. All signs are located on the left hand side of the roadway. Will this event be timed? Yes, All Sport Central will time the half marathon, relay and 5K event with disposable timing chips that are attached to the bib. The link to results can be found after the event at www.allsportcentral.com and click on “Event Calendar” and search for Atkinson Festival of Races or scan QR Code on page 5 with phone. Why should I sign up for Time Tracker? Have you ever wandered around a finish line looking for your friend or family member wondering if they have finished the race? Have you ever wanted to know when you should expect to see your friend or family member running by your cheering section along the race course? Have you ever wanted to get your splits and results information after completing the event but you had to wait around forever to see the official results? Have you ever wondered how your favorite elite athletes are faring during the race? Time Tracker can help resolve all these problems and many more. Time Tracker will be available for purchase through All Sport Central. Visit their website at http://www.allsportcentral.com and click on “Event Calendar” and search for Atkinson Festival of Races or scan QR Code on page 5 with phone. Do I need to wear my race bib? Yes, all participants (except 2.5M Walk) will need to wear their

race bib on the outer most layer of clothing. It should be pinned to the front of your shirt at your stomach. Runners without the proper bib will be asked to exit the course. Please keep your bib after the race for admittance to other events. What if it rains? Races will be held rain or shine. Severe weather (lightning or tornado warning) may cause race to be cancelled or delayed. Sweep vehicles and aid station volunteers will notify runners/walkers on the course if the race is cancelled or delayed. Will there be first aid available on the course? There will be EMTs from the Atkinson Rescue Department providing mobile first aid stations. There will be one stationary first aid station at the water station located at the finish line. Each water station has the ability to call for a mobile first aid unit. Mobile first aid units will be driving the course throughout the race to monitor participants. Will the course close at a certain time? Yes, the course will close at noon. All athletes must cross the finish line by noon to be recorded as an official finisher. The course will be reopened to traffic at noon.

Do all participants receive a medal? A unique 2013 Atkinson Festival of Races lapel pin will be given to the first 100 participants that pick up their packet. Are there any options for showers after the race? Yes, showers are available for participants at the Atkinson Municipal Pool located at highway 20 and Main Street. Opens at 9:00 am. Must present your race bib for free admittance to showers.

A free breakfast for race participants will be provided at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Cost for breakfast for guests of athlete is a free will donation. Athletes must present their bib for free breakfast. See enclosed map for location. Other food will be available at the Festival of Arts and Ag and from local stores and restaurants.

Will muscle relief be available for runners? Physical Therapists from West Holt Therapy Services will be providing complimentary muscle relief near the finish line for half marathon and relay participants only. 8:30 am - Noon Must present your bib for entry. Will photos be available after the race conclusion? Photos will be available for purchase through All Sport Central. Will finisher certificates be available? Finisher certificates will be available for purchase through All Sport Central. The Festival of Arts and Agriculture will have a few food vendors. This is located west of the finish line from 7:30am – 3:00 pm on State Street. Half Marathon and Relay

Runners are asked to run on the left hand side of the road – aid stations will be on the left.   There will be direction signs for the HM located on the left hand side of the road.  

Directions:    Start Line:    Main St. and State St. Head south on Main St. Turn right on Pearl St. (will curve to the south in the country) Turn right on 876th Road Turn right on 474th Road (gravel/dirt) Turn right on 887th Avenue Turn left into Mill Race Park (gravel/dirt) Mill Race Park road will loop near the golf cart sheds and runners will go back out the same way they came in. Turn left on 887th Avenue Turn left on Riverview Drive (gravel/dirt) Turn right on the Cowboy Trail (gravel) Turn left on Carberry Street Turn right on 4th Street Turn right on Hill Street Turn right on State Street Turn right on Front Street Turn left on 1st Street Turn left on Main Street.
