Message from the Program ChairThe American College of Phlebology is proud to sponsor the 2013 Comprehensive Sclerotherapy Symposium. This year’s symposium will include a morning of short talks, reviewing the essentials of sclerotherapy and its indications and outcomes. There will be ample question and answer time. There will also be workshops to provide hands-on experience for practitioners of all levels who have an interest in providing sclerotherapy to their patients with venous disease. There will be information for everyone, regardless of your training background as a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse.

A knowledgeable, expert faculty from several different background disciplines has been gathered to share their extensive sclerotherapy experience with you. These experienced phlebologists have demonstrated their expertise as leaders in venous disease education. Topics to be covered will include:

» Principles of sclerotherapy and how it is practiced in the United States today

» Sclerotherapy drugs, including proprietary microfoam

» Visual and ultrasound-guided liquid and foam sclerotherapy

» Complications of sclerotherapy and how to avoid them

» Dealing with sclerotherapy emergencies

» Pelvic, labial, and vulvar varicosis and Pelvic Congestion Syndrome

» Treating incompetent perforators, neovascularization, venous malformations, and other “funny looking” vessels

» And more

The afternoon workshop breakout sessions will cover basic and advanced topics and should provide something for everyone:

» The basic workshops are targeted toward physicians and other healthcare providers who have had limited experience with treating patients with sclerotherapy, regardless how long they might have performed non-sclerotherapy treatment for their patients. These sessions will utilize phantoms to teach both visual and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, give hands on experience with detergent sclerosants and different gases and syringes, and have stations with different providers who will offer their tips on the basics of sclerotherapy.

» The advanced workshops will be targeted toward those physicians with more extensive sclerotherapy experience. Some of the topics that will be covered will include fluoro-guided sclerotherapy, sciatic vein management, telangeictatic matting management, when not to treat, and more on venous malformations, and pelvic venous insufficiency.

Course InformationDescription This regional symposium is a comprehensive one-day activity starting with lectures focused on basic through advanced sclerotherapy essentials, indications, and complication prevention. Hands-on techniques and demonstrations will conclude the day for both the beginner and advanced phlebologist to ensure each participant is better prepared for optimal patient outcomes. Basic through advanced skill levels will be addressed by several experienced phlebologists from different primary disciplines who have demonstrated their expertise as leaders in venous disease education.

There will be a particular emphasis on difficult case presentations prepared by the speakers and cases attendees submit no later than 4/30/2013 to meetings@acpmail.org.

Target AudienceThis continuing medical education activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians and other health care professionals specializing in Phlebology, Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Radiology, Vascular Medicine, and Vascular and General Surgery who have an interest in caring for patients with venous disease.

Educational ObjectivesAt the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

» Recognize the benefits of sclerotherapy to enhance clinical outcomes for patients with venous insufficiency.

» Apply appropriate sclerosants and techniques for patients with varicose veins.

» Describe how to optimize outcomes and minimize complications.

» Communicate effectively with patients on the risks, benefits and complications of sclerotherapy.

» Manage more complicated clinical situations with the full array of techniques of sclerotherapy, endovenous chemical ablation, ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy, and treatment options to aid in managing expectations.

Registration InformationRegistration for the Comprehensive Sclerotherapy Symposium is open to both Members and Non-Members. You may also choose to print off a registration form and fax or mail this in with payment. Advance registration closes Friday, April 26, 2013 (or when the course has been filled). The number of participants will be limited to 150. Register early to guarantee your participation. All registrations will be accepted on a first come-first served basis.

Guest Room RatesThe ACP has reserved a block of rooms at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel for Friday through Sunday. The hotel confirms the following guest room rates for our group: Single/Double - $119.00 + taxes. Attendees will receive complimentary internet in their guest rooms.

Attendees must register for the course before making their reservations at the host hotel. Once your registration has been processed, you will be sent a confirmation email from the ACP headquarters office which will include an online reservation link for the hotel. All reservations must be made by April 25, 2013. However, the group block is limited in size and will be filled on a first-come first-served basis. Reservations received after the room block is filled or after April 25, 2013 will be accepted on a space available basis and prevailing hotel rates.

Check-in time is 3:00 PM and check-out time is 12:00 PM. Guests arriving before 3:00 PM will be assigned accommodations as they become available.
