Our presentation of the 2012 UX in Canada - Work & Salary Survey Results to the VanUE community, February 26th, 2013. The goal for the survey was to gather up-to-date information about the state of user experience jobs in Canada to help all professionals understand the UX market and opportunities in Canada. This presentation highlights data from information captured on demographics, work experience and positions, and compensation of UX professionals across Canada.

About Us

We  are  two  User  Experience  Designers  who,  one  year  ago,  decided  to  join  forces  as  Periscope  UX.    The  past  year  we  spent  a  lot  of  9me  learning  how  to  market  ourselves  and  establishing  a  clientele  –  it’s    been  a  HUGE  learning  experience.    During  our  careers  here  in  Vancouver,  there  have  always  been  a  few  pieces  of  the  puzzle  we  felt  were  lacking:  

  Where  is  UX  happening  in  Canada?    And  in  what  industries?  

  What  design  services  and  skills  are  sought  aRer?  

  What  is  reasonable  compensa9on?

LinkedIn is the most widely used to find UX jobs and contracts (46% of respondents use often)

Other  methods  used  by  <  11%:  IxDA,  Placement  Agencies,  Internal  Recruiters,  etc.    

Friends/word-of-mouth is the most effective way to find work (46%) Followed  by:    28%  networking    13%  online  ads  9%  social  media  4%  online  poroolio  &  job  fairs
