“Don’t worry sunshine I’ve packed the onepiece, the snorkel, the goggles and zinc... the housekeeper is on her way!” Evelyn Krape, THE HOUSEKEEPER

“I’m really looking forward to bringing this play to the Sunshine Coast. I know everyone will love it but it should really resonate with the older community. It’s the story of an older couple who fi nd love just in time. Bring a hanky and a bucket.” Peter Moon, THE HOUSEKEEPER

“Proserpine, Capella, Logan, Griffi th, Tamworth, Brisbane, Dubbo - who has the manliest men in Australia? We’re asking that question in 35 towns across Australia. Maybe they live in Noosa Heads! We’re coming to fi nd out ...”Andrew Horabin, WHAT A MAN’S GOTTA DO

“Now that Erth’s Dinosaur Petting Zoo has become both a national and international success, not only are we looking forward to bringing the Dinosaurs to the Sunshine Coast but we the grown ups are having more fun than the kids, and they will be just as excited!”Anna Young: General Manager, ERTH - Visual & Physical Incorporated

We are frequently reminded of the Sunshine Coast for it was where we found our most favourite recipe, Sunshine Sausages. That’s a sausage inside a ring of pineapple. I guess that is what you could call us sisters too, when we are there. Mourne Kransky, THE KRANSKY SISTERS

“We are dusting off our mankinis, doing more slopping than slapping and heading to the sunshine.” Virginia Lovett, General Manager, MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL

EMPIRE THEATRES PTY LTD PRESENT

April’s Fool BY DAVID BURTON

A true story of love, family, strength and the choices we make.In April 2009, two weeks short of his nineteenth birthday Toowoomba teenager Kristjan Terauds died due to complications from illicit drug use. Inspired by ‘April’s Fool’, an account of his son’s death by Kristjan’s father, the Empire Theatre commissioned award-winning playwright, David Burton to bring this story to the stage. Using the words of Kristjan’s friends and family interviewed over many months the result is a powerful mix of sadness, loss, and ultimately love, laced with humour.April’s Fool promises to be a thought-provoking and ultimately optimistic refl ection on how we all live our lives.Young people, parents, teachers, youth workers and theatre critics universally praised April’s Fool for its ability to engage them in this story. The result is a theatre experience that refl ects Kristjan himself, loving, warm, generous, open, honourable, gentle, complex and provocative. biddies

BiddiesWRITTEN BY DON REIDDIRECTED BY WAYNE HARRISON

Don Reid’s play CODGERS was a touring favourite in 2010, described by the Sydney Morning Herald as “...a heart-warming comedy...you’re in the hands of skilled experts who really do know what they’re doing, how to do it and why.”Now it’s time to hear from the ladies, as some of Australia’s most beloved actresses bring this delightful new comedy to the stage. You’ll laugh till you cry. Move over Codgers, the Biddies are in town...Five ordinarily marvellous women fi nd themselves back in their infants school classroom plying their needles in a good old-fashioned session of “stitch and bitch”. Their confessions are frank, their rivalries intense and their jokes outrageous. They discover a common frustration with the limitations of being female and mature in a world still largely defi ned by men. Accidentally locked in the classroom, with nothing but ingenuity, Adora Cream Wafers and a bucket to get them through the crisis, unknown reserves come to the fore. Released from their own constraints, they rediscover their capacity to love, forgive - and take control. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!This delightful new comedy is brought to the stage by some of Australia’s most beloved actresses. You’ll laugh till you cry. Vulnerable, feisty and in full bloom, these gals are everything - except old!Cast includes Maggie Blinco, Annie Byron, Jeanie Drynan, Donna Lee and Linden Wilkinson

Following sell-out seasons across Australia, this hilarious smash-hit production by The Escapists is a stunning celebration of theatricality, imagination and the joy of play.Using chalk, sock puppets, an overhead projector and over two-dozen characters, Lucas Stibbard’s captivating tour de force performance will inspire and delight with live music by Neridah Waters in a tall tale of whimsy and architectural enlightenment.

Lucy declares that he’ll never grow up. Adam protests. She gives him 24 hours to prove he is a man—or the wedding is off! With the wedding approaching fast, and with a bit of questionable help from his two best mates, the three young blokes must forge their own path into manhood. The themes are serious. The show is a hilarious musical comedy. The combination is powerful.

The H

ousekeeper

The HousekeeperTwo of Australia’s best comic actors, Evelyn Krape and Peter Moon, combine in this offbeat, delightfully zany comedy about a middle-aged, rather stuffy bachelor and the eccentric bag lady he hires as a housekeeper. Foundering a bit after the death of his aged (and domineering) mother, Manley Carstairs, a self-styled literary artist, engages a housekeeper, Annie Dankworth, to look after his large Victorian house (and himself). When Annie fi rst arrives, wearing sneakers and carrying her belongings in a shopping trolley, Manley is taken aback but she seems so eager to please that he relents – after which their relationship progresses rapidly from initial reserve to active hatred. Annie is one of the world’s great oddballs. She insults her employer, denigrates his writing, admits she forged her references, accuses Manley of lusting after her and in general makes his life hell. This screwball comedy will have you in stitches with its lively wit and biting humour. Written by James PrideauxDirected by Lucy FreemanStarring Peter Moon, Evelyn Krape

Ladies Night

Ladies NightThe ultimate night out and not only for the girls! The story of four unemployed guys, motivated by ‘The Chippendales’ to form a male stripping act, in order to make some fast cash. They pitch the notion to a local club owner and take lessons from a slightly shop-worn, dance instructor with a heart-of-gold in all manner of things, including what women really want from a male stripper (and how to deliver it).Written in 1987, by Anthony McCarten and Stephen Sinclair, Ladies Night has been translated into twelve languages and remains New Zealand’s most commercially successful play, of all time. With eight sell-out tours of Britain and the U.K, it won France’s premiere theatre award for comedy, The Molière Prize, in 2001. See these average blokes attempt a strip to some familiar tunes:‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’, ‘Bad To the Bone’, ‘Smooth Operator’ and ‘Wild Thing’ to name just a few.Ladies Night will leave you hyperactive and ready to party! It’s the kind of show that you can take your granny to…Cheeky, fun, a little bit naughty: and a damn good giggle. Will they GO ALL THE WAY?Come along and see for yourself!

Rhinestone Rex and Miss MonicaBY DAVID WILLIAMSON

Can a country cowboy and a sophisticated virtuoso change their tune for love? What do a classical musician and retired country and western singer have in common? Not a lot according to Monica who really just wants Gary, aka Rhinestone Rex, to do the job he’s being paid for and renovate her kitchen. She hates his taste in music, his attitudes to women and the columns he wants to put on her kitchen cabinets. Gary can’t fi nd much about Monica to recommend to anyone but still fi nds her attractive in a cold, rigid and infl exible kind of way. Can they fi nd a way past all their confl icts towards a harmonious and fulfi lling relationship? Or will their differences keep them from making beautiful music together?Rhinestone Rex and Miss Monica is master playwright David Williamson’s 43rd play, and director Sandra Bates’ 12th Williamson production in 12 years.

The Flood

The FloodFrom internationally acclaimed, multi award winning creators Finucane & Smith comes the haunting and electrifying work hailed as “masterful… an Australian Gothic that defi nes the genre.”The sheep farm is dilapidated. The farm house, dark and squalid, sits by the river, sheltering a mad old lady, and her isolated hard-drinking daughter. Memories are seeping through the fl oorboards. As the sun sets, the fl ood waters rise. The screen door bangs open in the rain and wind; Catherine has returned after 20 years. The past is here. Through the mesmerising friction between estranged sisters, fuelled by alcohol and uncertain memories of a long-dead father, three women are trapped with a past no one wants to remember. Bristling with dark humour and edge-of-the-seat performances by three of our fi nest actresses, The Flood is startlingly authentic writing, plunging audiences into the lives of characters so real you feel you know them; a web of family intrigue against the haunting Australian outback. “A dark and ingenious piece of Australian gothic” THE AGE

Kransky S

isters

Piece of Cake by the Kransky SistersHaving won awards in Edinburgh and Australia… Mourne, Eve and Dawn Kransky, three endearing spinsters from Esk in Queensland, are packing up their old Morris to hit the road again with a brand new show. Venturing out from the intensely private world of their family home, the Sisters will bring stories and homespun renditions of the popular songs they’ve heard on their wireless. With tuba, musical-saw, guitar, keyboard, saucepan and toilet brush… don’t miss this multi-award winning trio as they bring you their oddball and darkly funny brand of tune, from Cher and Abba to AC/DC. “A truly bizarre, and utterly funny show. The fantastic characters are not unlike a cross between the Sugababes and the Adams Family.” Edinburgh Fringe Reviews

“Like the acid fuelled imagining of Hunter S Thompson at a Country Women’s Association meeting, this unstuck comic creation is bizarre and precious….These women are the comedic equivalent of Star Trek. So complete and meticulous is their creation, you can almost imagine a future of Kransky conventions.” Helen Razer The Age 2005

“If Dame Edna ever retired to the Outback and procreated, the result might be something like the Kranskys.”Kate Copstick, The Scotsman
