Inadditiontobeingrecognizedasanenergyengineintheprovince,StrathconaCountyisalsoknownfortheenergyofitspeople,whohelpmakethiscommunitygreat.Underpinningitallisadeeply-rootedvaluesystem,builtondetermination,honesty,integrity,freedom,personalresponsibility,kindness,self-esteem,andcompassion.

Awards received (2011)Lieutenant Governor’s Leadership for Active Communities Award-RussPawlyk,directorofRecreationParksandCulture,receivedthisawardinrecognitionofhisachievementsthatresultedinincreasedcitizenengagementandhighlevelsofparticipationinrecreation,sportandactivelivingleadingtohealthierpeopleandcommunities.

Communities in Bloom-StrathconaCountyparticipatedintheCircleofChampionscategoryinthe2011NationalEditionofCommunitiesinBloom.TheCountyreceivedafivebloomratingwithaspecialmentionfortheCommunityCentre.StrathconaCountyalsoreceivedtheNationalUrbanForestryAward.

MarCom Award -StrathconaCountycompetedasoneof6,000entriesfromtheUnitedStatesandCanadainbeingawardedGoldbytheMarComAwardsforitsActiveSchoolsprogram.TheActiveSchoolsprogramprovidesteachersandparentcouncilswithacentralizedonlinesourceofinformationforschool-relatedevents,programsandactivitieswithinStrathconaCounty.Theinformationhighlightsactivitiesthatencouragestudentstolearnabouttheenvironment,engageinrecreationactivitiesandtapintotheircreativitythroughculturalprogramming.
