What is the Chimaera?

The Chimaera is an everlasting flame that is shooting out of the ground.

The flame goes on forever even in rain and wind.

It is in Olympos in Turkey and is REALLY cool!!!!

Some ship captains use it as a lighthouse as it is so bright and near to the sea.

I have been there twice and it is very awesome.

There is an interesting legend which I will tell you about later and I hope you enjoy learning about it!!!!

Where is the Chimaera?

The Chimaera is situated in Lycia, Turkey. It is near Olympos beach and Cirali.

The Chimaera flames are at the very top of mount Olympos, and they supposedly got the first Olympic torch from the biggest flame.

The Chimaera is now a popular tourist attraction and I really loved it when I went there.

It is very amazing!!!!

What is the legend?

Apparently, Bellerophon, at the command of King lobates of Lycia, defeated the Chimaera. Bellerophon mounted Pegasus and shot the Chimaera from the air. He covered his spear with molten lead and stuck it in her.

According to legend the Chimaera is trapped underground and the flames are her breathing fire….

The legend of the Chimaera is that there was supposedly a fire breathing beast, upon mount Olympos, in Turkey.This monster had the body of a lioness, and the end of her tail turned into a snakes head. Legend says she also has the head of a goat, rearing out of her back.
