Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional,

and community leaders in more than 200 countries and geographical areas providing humanitarian service, encouraging high ethical standards in all vocations, and helping to build goodwill and promote peace in the world. Under the Rotary International umbrella, the Crystal City-Pentagon Club has since 1984 proudly served the Arlington community and the world at large. We are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. Our main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. We are guided by the international motto, "Service Above Self."

Our club’s main objective is to be successful in four avenues of service – community,

vocation, international, and club service. Not only do we raise funds for and contribute to world-wide initiatives, we conduct and complete local and international service projects. Below are some of our programs: Wounded warrior outreach and family support. Helping homeless transition to permanent housing by providing furnishings for apartments in collaboration with the Arlington County Passageways program Promoting literacy in Arlington through annual sponsorship of Reading: A Family Affair; coaching reading at Gunston Middle through use of Braille and English texts Assisting needy families through participation in the Salvation Army Bell Ringing Awarding annual scholarships for Wakefield HS seniors who demonstrate personal commitments to “Service Above Self” Supporting year-round programs at Gunston Middle School including Science Fair, Career Day, Interact Club activities, recognizing Teacher of the Year Supporting Polio Eradication efforts through PolioPlus, now a joint program of Rotary, The United Nations World Health Organization, The US Center for Disease Control, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Supporting leadership development through the sponsorship of Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp each September Providing emergency aid to disaster victims through ShelterboxUSA. Promoting international understanding through the sponsorship of a Group Study Exchange trip to India and a Rotary Youth Exchange student Participating in international humanitarian efforts through a clean water project in a Suriname village and support of orphan children in Uganda

Come join us! Donations and sponsorships are always welcome, but it is your wisdom,

PolioPlus, the most ambitious program in Rotary’s history, is the volunteer arm of

the global partnership dedicated to eradicating polio. For more than 20 years, Rotary has led the private sector in the global effort to rid the world of this crippling disease. Today, PolioPlus and its role in the initiative is recognized worldwide as a model of public-private cooperation in pursuit of a humanitarian goal.

After 20 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating

this tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now to root it out once and for all. It is a window of opportunity of historic proportions. Ad Courtesy of:
