Asia Diamond is the ultimate power house of talent from dancing, modeling, host-ing and even acting. This young lady hailing from the city of New York has come and taken Atlanta by surprise. She has been classically trained at Alvin Ailey, Dance Theater of Harlem, Joffrey Ballet, Harlem School of the Arts, and Harlem Hospital Dance Leadership Program.

In 2009 Miss Diamond relocated to Atlanta-within a year Asia Diamond managed to create an astonishing resume. Asia Diamond signed with SDA Talent Manage-ment, Bloc South Talent Agency Per-Gig and currently a model and choreographer for LS Management.

In addition to the above, Asia Diamond experience the opportunity to shoot with one of Atlanta’s renowned online magazines (Kontrol Magazine) loved her so much that they asked her to grace her presence on their stage at the second annual Fall Fashion Show.

Miss Diamond’s most recent projects include the Warner Brothers Movie A Cinder-ella Story: Once Upon A Song where she was a principal dancer. A Cinderella Story is currently on DVD. She has also had the pleasure of opening The Eriam Sisters (Americas Got Talent Semi-Finalist) Showcase to their single Diary.

Being natural, as we have all gathered, is a beautiful thing. It signifies a woman’s strength and displays her confidence in her physical be-ing. Trust me when i say It’s not a trend; it’s an entity of our being, much more powerful than can be expressed. For this reason, it is impor-tant that your natural hair is properly cared for.

Since becoming aware of my hair and un-derstanding that it was naturally kinky, not knotted and nappy I have used so many style altering chemicals in an attempt to tame my natural hair. Yet and still I proclaimed I was indeed natural. In actuality I was natural with restrictions. Chemicals were in all my products beginning with the shampoo I used to clean my hair to the daily moisturizer I lived by for shine and softness.

What I didn't know was that all of that hair ”care” was slowly, over time, harming my hair. The alcohol, the petroleum, the sulfate and everything else that I had believed to be good for my hair was actually not good at all, but it made my hair look good in the end.

Many products are riddled with chemicals that we have over time believed were essentials in hair care beauty. In my household growing up, my mom used petroleum-based pressing oil faithfully to straighten out my kinks and the end product was absolutely gorgeous. My faith was built in what my mom used because it was tried and true to great results each time. So, when I became further educated about what my hair really needs and doesn't need, I must say I was sad to throw out my favorite hair grease, curling mousse and everything in between. When I was done, all I had left was a lonely bottle of olive oil. However, it was a start in the right direction of what my natural hair really deserved, a quality plant-based hair care

ritual. By adopting a plant-based hair care ritual I found that I didn't have to compromise the health of my hair for beautiful results.

When developing your plant-based hair care ritual, keep in mind that it should cater to the six elements of proper hair care: cleanse, restore, nourish, moisturize, shine, and hydrate.

Cleanse- When cleansing the hair, opt in for a sulfate-free shampoo. I've found that suds are not the indication of clean, it’s simply the indication of sulfate, something African American hair doesn't need. Its harsh and strips the hair of its natural oils. African American hair needs just the opposite as it does not produce as much oil.

Restore- After cleansing, restore moisture and nutrients to the hair with a botanical conditioning creme. It’s also great for detangling and can be used for co-washing.

Nourish/Moisturize- What's a head of hair if the scalp is unhealthy? A healthy scalp is pertinent for yielding healthy hair. Consider hair dress and/or moisturizers comprised of natural hair butters such as Karite, essential oils such as pep-permint, lemongrass and ylang ylang.

Shine- Dull hair is the key to the demise of any beautiful style, instead of harmful aerosol sprays that contain alcohol, try a nourishing hair serum that contains oils such as sweet almond oil or avocado oil.

Hydrate- Always remember, natural hair craves moisture. Hydration is the key to moisture as it prevents breakage and retains length. An herbal infused hair mist works great with keeping the hair hydrated.

Other benefits of the use of the fresh and natural ingredients of a plant-based hair care ritual include aromatherapy. The essential oils such as peppermint, lemongrass and lavender are all therapeutic and greatly relaxing. After all whether you are transitioning into your natural state or simply embracing your already natural hair, it is still your journey and deserves to be as relaxed and worry-free as possible. If your current hair care ritual doesn't measure up quite as natural as you thought, don't stress, as grandma said, “When you know bet-ter; you do better.”

Do you have a signature style? My signature cut; The bob again. I love it!!!! When I first learned the cut I was working at Family Affair Salon in Kan-sas city it was a young lady named CeCe and she had worked in white salons before and she knew how to cut it already. I studied it from what I saw and made my own since out of it. I start weaving my girls up and just mastered it. My cousin Shan-teria Mosley aka Teri. She was and is a big fan of my A-line bob and she is picky ass heck well she loved it and it became hers literally. I have referrals to this day coming and asking for “The Teri Bob”. I think my crop cut is pretty popular as well. I known as a great hair cut artist as well as an extensions specialist.

With the recent popularity of the retro hair-styles, what is your favorite? My favorite is the bob which in my opinion never really goes out of style it’s more of an ever evolv-ing look. The bob is a short cut that became very popular in the early 1900’s. in fact the infamous Vidal Sassoon is the creator of this masterpiece.

If you were only allowed to have one hair product on a stranded island, what would it be? This is an funny question... One product huh? Actually this is easy. I’m going to say a heavy moisturizing conditioner. I am a fan of Kera Kare humecto. But there are several good conditioners out here to choose from.

What projects are you working on or do you have coming up? I am currently working on opening my new salon The Annex By AO in lees sum-mit mo. We cater women of all walks of life. We are a great team of skilled artist. We also have the Christmas with cosmos Gala. Which is an event for the beauty industry as a whole to come together to celebrate a year of success as well as to mix and mingle. I’m so looking forward to it all.

Tell us a little about Lowkeezy. LowKeezy is a hard working, hip hop artist that has been doing this music thang for quite sometime now, all work and very little play, a success story in the makeing, I will continue to lay low until the work is done and then Lowkeezy will be seen.

Where are you from? I’m from Evansville,In, I moved to Topeka,KS at a young age where I spent most of my days, now I reside in Kansas City. “Midwest to the heart”

Who are your musical inspirations? The early movement of hip hop raised me, I remember when my Uncle Marvin introduced me to my first boom box with a whodini cassete tape in it and i’ve been hooked everysince and my other cousin taught me how to beat box when I was like 7, I took alot from the early artist’s like like Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Dj Quik and Snoop Dogg, that’s where this Lowkeezy swagg comes from.

What are your thoughts on the current hip hop scene? Um, mixed opinions because on the business side it has grown up, but the music side is nothing like it use to be, I think the game is to crowd-ed with the same type of sound, back in the day it was more different type of sounds, now you can’t tell one coast from the other, everybody wants to do the same type of sound which is the sound that is making the most money.

What separates you from other artist?Because I stay in my own lane, I do me that’s why I like being an under-ground artist because I have creative control. My music has no limita-tions, I never want to fall in a category of a certain type of style,my style changes like the weather,but my voice is unique their ain’t nobody out there that has a voice like mine.

You just released a mixtape in November with another Kansas City artist, K-Boy, and hosted by DJ Rice. Can you tell us more about that? Yes K-Boy is my Brother from another, we been going hard on this music for a minute now, I put him on my first cd Lowkey’s World when he was just a freshman I was already out of school then and he killed it and now he’s on a nother level with it,his metaphor game is crazy, so when u put me and him together it’s rediculous and we just put out the Mixtape “We Out Here Vol 1“ with Dj Rice who is connected with alot of big Dj circuits such as core dj’s and ect. He is real big out here in Kansas City and Columbia,Mo also, we just released it on DatPiff.com for free.

I usually will wear a fresh Ralph Lauren Polo colar shirt and some Ralph Lauren Polo cargo Khaki’s or some fresh Levi jeans and some Ralph Lauren Polo boots if im going casual, but if im going for the street wear I will probally have on low top chuck taylors or some all white low top airforce 1‘s and can’t forget a fresh snapback hat for accesories and some versace cologne.

For those fans that have been with you for a while, they know that you used to have braids. Do you miss your longer hair? Somedays I do, but it took to much work to keep them up, I actually thought about growing some dreds, I but I think im going to stick with the waves for a little while longer.

Who is/are your barber(s) that keeps your hair cuts always nice?I actaully have a barber I go to in Topeka and one in Kansas City, My barber in Topeka, Ks is Marshall Banks at Center Stage off 6th in Washburn and my other barber is VJ Mcdaniels at the image of, off 95th in antioch in Overland Park, KS.

Meet Dyeesha “Diamond Princess” Jones. She is a 24 year old aspiring model from Cleveland, Ohio who has done some work with Soft Kiss Modeling. When this single mother isn’t making sure the patients at Hillcrest Hospital are fed well she is killing the streets with her fierce fashion choices and doing it on a budget as well. When asked to name this look Ms. Jones called it “A Night Out on the Town”. What is your favorite store to shop at and for what reason? “I love to shop at Tomorrow’s in East Cleveland for their shoe selection and I can always find a cute inexpensive outfit.” Do you have a ritual when you are getting your swag on? “When I’m getting dressed I play music, have a drink and take pictures of my completed look.” I think that’s a ritual we could all work with. Have you ever purchased a fashion item that you felt was overpriced but still you just had to have it? “Yes, I have. I once paid $23 for a costume neck-lace from Donnard’s, but it was cute and I refused to leave the store without it!” When it comes to being swagged out is make-up a necessity or an accessory? “Definitely a necessity!”

Description: Midwest Black Hair Magazine is a monthly publication that is devoted to showcasing African American hair styles, promoting local hair and beauty stylist, supporting local small business-es, putting a spotlight on hair & beauty events in the Midwest, and providing hair, beauty, and health information. We are looking for a Graphic Design intern to join our team.

Candidate would be responsible for assisting the Editor and Art Director with the design of the monthly issues, photo editing, and assistance with promotional merchandise.

Candidates should have the following:Very CreativeMulti-taskedGood communication skillsAbility to prioritize work and meet tight deadlinesExperience with Adobe CS4/CS5Knowledge or open to learn Adobe Premiere Pro
