Physics: a student companion covers the core concepts of university
physics in an accessible and mem
ory-friendly manner. It provides a
quick reference to key ideas and equations and is a reliable examination
companion. This book guides you to see the links betw

concepts, and it pulls together the pieces you need to understand
complex derivations better.
So, if you are studying university-level physics, preparing for graduate
entry, or simply looking for a book that review
s the essentials, then
Physics: a student companion is for you.
“As a Professor of Physics I have given a very strong recomm
endation to my
students that they should get this book... It all sits together very well indeed as a
single-volume study aid, produced to a very high standard. This is just the sort of
book that I would have w
anted when I w
as a student, but which w
asn’t available.
I would urge all Physics students to buy a copy.”
“The book is a really useful tool to use in conjunction with a physics
undergraduate course. Clear contents, helpful examples and useful explanations
of everything you need to know. W
ould strongly recomm
end!”
“The book is well set out for all students, offering a flow
ing narrative
supplemented by derivations and w
orked examples w
hich, crucially, don’t
interrupt passages of text; a reader is able to revise the science of physics
independently of the maths behind the subject and vice versa... I’d certainly
recomm

“Good quality book with all the content to get you through 1st year and possibly
a bit of 2nd as well... I w
ould recomm
end it to keep in your bag and refer back to
it during lectures on any topics you’re confused about, also would m

Anatomy and Physiology for NursesP. Marshall, B Gallacher, J. Jolly, S. Rinomhota
The book integrates clinical cases with the essential biological facts to provide all students with a thorough understanding of how anatomy and physiology can be applied in healthcare.
Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses is focused on what students need to know about the biological principles which underpin the practice of healthcare. Clear high quality full colour illustrations, links to appropriate web-based material, and a range of self-assessment material make this the perfect textbook for all healthcare students – the ideal alternative to the large textbooks for medical students they are normally offered.

Physics A Student companionL. A. Kirkby
Physics: A Student Companion is an exciting new revision and reference text for students taking university physics courses, be they physics majors, or maths or engineering students. Written by a recent student, the book provides a succint summary of all the material found in the very large textbooks that dominate this area.
"As a Professor of Physics at Manchester University, I have given a very strong recommendation to my students that they should get this book". Amazon.co.uk (9)
"Lowry Kirkby has achieved something unique, physics from the perspective of a recently graduated physicist. This book is unqiue in the way it covers the basics of any undergraduate course in physics worth its salt". Amazon.co.uk (9)

Integrated Clinical CasesThe benefits of this approach are twofold:• it can be used alongside traditional lectures to guide students
through the basic science, with clinical examples to highlight the application to healthcare
• it can be used for problem-based learning by using the case studies to provide an alternative route through the science.
New Clinical Genetics, Clinical Endocrinology
and Anatomy and Physiology for Nurses all feature integrated clinical case studies.

Clinical EndocrinologyS. A. Whitehead & J. Miell
Whether you are a student of biomedicine or medicine, trainee, resident, or endocrinology fellow, Clinical Endocrinology provides you with the core information you need to understand this notoriously complex subject. The book describes the biochemistry, physiology, and anatomy that underpins clinical practice and then integrates genuine clinical cases to show the application of this basic science in diagnosis and treatment.
Key features include:• a flowing narrative that leads you through the basic science• boxes that provide core reference information• advanced boxes that provide additional material suitable for
residents and fellows• case studies that link with the text and describe the
presentation, diagnosis, and management of real patients• further clinical material that builds on the basic science and
describes the causes of endocrine disorders, their clinical features, and treatment options
• coverage of the latest advances and discoveries• self-assessment questions to test understanding
New Clinical Genetics 2nd EditionA. Read and D. Donnai
The second edition of New Clinical Genetics has been comprehensively updated, but the unique structure and format of the first edition have been retained. New cases have been introduced covering Fragile X and the identification of an underlying chromosome problem by SNP chip analysis.
The innovative integrated case-based approach coupled with the clear writing style of the authors has made this book a hugely successful textbook for medical students worldwide. It is also an essential guide to modern medical genetics for all those involved in the field, from clinical and nurse geneticists to genetic counselors. Printed in full colour throughout.
“This text is a must-read for anyone wishing to stay current with the fast-paced field of clinical genetics.”

"The book should become required reading for any first-year ‘chemistry for life sciences’ undergraduate and a good reference source thereafter."
Education in Science
"This book is well written and well informed. The authors have achieved their goal of writing at a level which is accessible from the able A-level chemistry student through to the post-doc non-chemist who wishes to
brush up."
"I didn’t do chemistry A level at school and after being accepted onto my university course I realised one of my modules would be on chemistry. This book was part of my reading list. It is easy to understand and the
explanations are great."

DANIEL JACKSON
Healthcare Economics Made Easy is a clear and concise text written for those working in healthcare who need to understand the basics of the subject but who do not want to wade through a specialist health economics text.
This book provides insight into the economic methods that are used to promote public health policies, the techniques used for grading and valuing evidence and the statistics relied upon, without trying to re-train the reader as a health economist.
If you are left bemused by terms such as QALY, health utility analysis and cost minimization analysis, then this is the book for you.
Recent reviewsThis book goes through all the concepts and terms that I hoped it would and does so in a way that is both easy to follow and genuinely interesting to read. Quite something for a subject that I feared might be heavy going after peeking at some dry ‘specialist’ economics text books! The use of examples from healthcare and other walks of life really aids understanding. If you’re looking for a book to introduce you to the general concepts of health economics then this will do the job perfectly.
This book does exactly what it says on the cover - it offers a concise and easily digestible introduction to the world of healthcare economics. Topics are graded on relative importance and ease of understanding, and are often accompanied with simple, well thought out examples that aid comprehension. We may not like the fact that decisions regarding the healthcare that we receive are based on economics; however this book goes a long way to explaining how and why such decisions are reached.
Even if your interest in the subject amounts to how much you’re prepared to pay for a packet of throat sweets, this book will help you understand the decisions that ultimately affect every single one of us. Better still, it does it in a hundred pages or so and really simple language. At a time when who decides how healthcare is commissioned and how our money is spent, it’s well worth anyone picking this book up to see how and why decisions are made.
