The most successful headcoach in Cal Poly softball pro-gram history, Jenny Condon

enters her eighth season in 2012ranked third among active Big WestConference coaches with a .571(200-150) winning percentage.Condon, who directed Cal Poly to BigWest championships in 2007 and2009, also ranks third among confer-ence head coaches with a .631 (89-52) winning percentage in Big Westcontests. Under Condon, the 2005,2007 and 2009 Big West Coach ofthe Year selection, Cal Poly has suf-fered just two losing seasons.

The Big West’s representative tothe NFCA Division I Head CoachesCommittee, Condon became the 11thBig West coach to earn 200 victoriesat a member institution as Cal Polycompleted its 2011 season with a 6-5victory against conference championPacific. Individually last season, des-ignated player Anna Cahn earnedher third All-Big West first team acco-lade to bring the number of Mustangall-conference selections underCondon to 32. Additionally, Condonhas produced six NFCA All-WestRegion selections during her tenureat Cal Poly.

Despite the program’s 23-24overall finish in 2010, Cal Poly’s 12-9Big West mark kept the Mustangswithin the top-three programs in theconference standings for the sixth-successive season. Led by Cahn’sselection as Big West Field Player ofthe Year, five Mustangs earned all-conference praise in 2010.

The 2009 season proved to bethe finest effort in Cal Poly’s 18-yearDivision I tenure as the Mustangsestablished single-season program

records for overall winning percent-age (.774), conference winning per-centage (.857), conference victories(18), fewest conference defeats(three) and fewest overall defeats(12) en route to capturing a secondBig West title and a berth in theNCAA Tournament. The Mustangs, who made program history by risingas high as No. 21 in the USAToday/NFCA poll, produced their firstNCAA Tournament victories at theDivision I level and reached thechampionship round of the Stanfordregional. Behind Cahn’s Big WestPitcher of the Year honor, a program-record nine Mustangs garnered all-conference praise.

Setting the table for an historic2009 campaign was a solid 2008effort as the Mustangs finished 24-22overall and in third place in the BigWest standings with a 12-9 mark. Inbetween opening the season with a5-1 victory against eventualWomen’s College World Series run-ner-up Texas A&M and winning six oftheir final eight contests, Cal Polyposted eight victories against pro-grams that qualified for the previousseason’s NCAA Tournament anddefended Bob Janssen Field with a14-3 (.824) home mark. All-Big Westfirst team selection Melissa Puraheadlined a group of seven totalMustangs who garnered all-confer-ence praise.

Prior to the 2009 campaign, CalPoly’s 2007 season ranked as themost-notable year in program histo-ry. Aside from capturing the pro-gram’s first Big West title and secur-ing its first NCAA Tournament berthat the Division I level, Cal Polyestablished then-single-seasonrecords for total victories (39) andoverall (.696) and conference (.778)winning percentage. After dealing

defeats to No. 12 Washington, No. 6Northwestern and No. 9 Stanford,Cal Poly opened Big West play witheight-straight victories. TheMustangs, who led the conferencerace wire-to-wire, closed the regularseason by winning five of their finalsix games and a 3-2 victory againstPacific on May 11 not only securedthe Big West crown, but also provid-ed Condon her 100th career victory.Headlined by Big West Player of theYear selection Lisa Modglin – whoalso doubled as Cal Poly’s firstNFCA All-America pick in nine years– Cal Poly placed eight Mustangs onthe 2007 all-conference team.

A standout player in the colle-giate and international arenas,Condon’s influence at Cal Poly wasfelt instantly as her inaugural 2005squad posted a 35-16 mark. TheMustangs went 15-6 in Big West playand the second-place finish was, atthe time, the best showing in pro-gram history. Cal Poly’s 27-23 recordin 2006 was backed by an 11-7 BigWest mark that guaranteed a third-place finish. The record solidified theprogram’s first back-to-back winningcampaigns since the 1996 (23-19)and 1997 (37-17) seasons.

Condon’s sides have been espe-cially adept in defending BobJanssen Field, having racked up a79-49 (.617) home record under herguidance. Included in that mark is aprogram-record 19-game home win-ning streak from May, 9 2008 to May2, 2009.

Condon began her coachingcareer at UNLV in 1994, assisting theRebels to a third-place finish at the1995 WCWS. She relocated toNorthwestern in 1997 before begin-ning a two-year stint with OregonState in 1998. The following season, the Beavers recorded a school-

The 2009 Mustangs, how-ever, produced the finest in-cir-cle effort in program history.Highlighted by lefthander AnnaCahn, named Big West Pitcher
