The history or practicing color hair goes back to ancient time. Some use color as an enhancement or accent for attention. Others choose color to cover their gray hair for a more youthful appearance. Under a Polarized Microscope, the hair bulb and hair strand may reveal chemical products damage. A doctor of Trichology will be able to confirm chemical products damage. Furthermore, women whom have problems with Alopecia and/or scalp maladies should be extra careful. Hair color and chemical services should not be applied to a child’s hair under 13 years of age. All parents must be aware of the risk of irreversible scalp and hair damage, which may result when a chemical is applied at a young age. Waiting until after puberty is suggested.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.Well i was born and raised in Chicago IL. I come a family of four sisters and was a very creative young boy, never fit in, so I moved to California in my early 20s and it was one of the best things I ever did .

When did you know that you wanted to be a hair stylist?

Well hair was such a big part of our day to day life having four sister! Just seeing what they could do with their hair definitely had an impact on me and often, I would help them with their hair. The first time I thought about it as a career, was when my best friend in high school said “You’re really good at creating hairstyles”. I still couldn’t see myself doing it because I thought a hair stylist only worked on little old ladies and I didn’t want to do that. Until one day, I was in the Water Tower Mall in Chicago and somehow came across the Vidal Sassoon Salon and what I saw was so inspiring to me! There were young, cool people and some mature people as well, doing amazing forward work and I knew I had to be a part of it! That’s when I decided working as a hairstylist is what I wanted to do as a career.

What other hobbies do you like to do?

I LOVE live music, so concerts are one thing I like to indulge in a lot. I've seen so many and I don't see myself slowing down anytime soon. I'm also a big history fan, so I spend a lot of time researching lots things from fashion architecture, through all the decades and starting at early 1900’s and anything after. I love to ride my bike and just cruise and my favorite is to just relax!

What celebrities have you worked with?

Celebrities I have worked on, wow, there have been so many. Everyone from Naomi Campbell to Britney Spears, to Iman and Jennifer Lopez!

Other celebrity clients include Tamia, Kelly Rowland, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, Dona-tella Versace, Calista Flockhart, Sienna Miller, Lydia Hearst, Jessica Stam, Arlenis Sosa, Nelly Furtado, and FefeDobson]

Recently, singer Tamia debuted her new single and look on BET’s 106 & Park, and you were responsible for giving her the style she wore. Can you tell our readers what steps they could take to get the same look?

To support the launch of her new record appear-ance on BET's 106 & Park, I worked on creating a new look for Tamia. I wanted to create something sexy, sleek, but with tons of body. How do you cre-ate this look? 1) Well start with the haircut - mid length, a soft solid line on the bottom, then tons of long concave layering and a very heavy bang that connects into the side layering around the face. This will allow you to get rid of the bangs if you want so you don't have to commit for months until it grows out. 2) Next blowout with round brush and do a velcro roller set. Let the hair set, let the set sit and cool take rollers out.3) Lightly flat iron the hair, flip your head upside down, shake it out finish with hairspray. I love this look as it's super sexy, but still cool!

Products I used: Rene Furturer No Rinse Silkening Fluid, velcro rollers, round brush and flat iron.

What are your favorite hair products to work with?

1. Rene Furterer Myrrhea Anti-Frizz Silkening Shampoo.2. Rene Furterer Myrrhea Anti-Frizz Silkening Mask. 3. Rene Furturer Myrrhea Anti-Frizz no rinse Silk-ening Fluid. 4. Sedu Revolution Nano Turmaline Ionic Flat Iron. 5. R sessions Root Control Barrel and Pressing Comb Duo.

Page 19: 2012 August Issue- Midwest Black Hair Magazine

19

What has been your favorite project to do?

My favorite projects I would have to say working on fashion shows or a great edito-rial shoot. I'm a really creative person so just doing day to day hair is not stimulating enough for me. One thing I cannot wait to do, is an amazing period film. It’s coming! lol

What projects do you have coming up?

Projects I have coming up, well its almost September New York Fashion Week is on the horizon. I will be creating hair and trends for talented designers such as Costello Taglipietra and Nicholas K, the shows will definitely keep me busy. I will head to Paris in October working on more European shows which are the most amazing and I really enjoy that. I just finished a fashion film documentary installation created by legend-ary photographer Nick Knight which will be on Showstudio.com with super model Ashley Smith. That will be aired live in New York, London, Milan and Paris in August. I'm very excited about it because not everybody gets to work on these types of projects and its beautiful and a blessing! I also worked with Pharrell Williams on a shoot for Bullett magazine, which hits shelves this Fall.

If you could leave our readers with one hair tip, what would it be?

Healthy hair starts from the inside so put good stuff in your body!
