OneofthelongesttenuredheadcoachesintheCo-lonialAthleticAssociation, JohnHaymanclosedouthis 25th season as head coach of the University ofDelawaremen’sandwomen’sswimminganddivingteamsin2012-2013.

SincearrivingatDelawarein1989-90,Hayman’steamhave consistently battled for the conference title,winningfourmen’stitleandtwowomen’scrownsinAmericaEastaction.Histeamshaveplacedinthetopthreeattheconferencemeetacombined24timesin50competitions.

Forthefourthstraightyear,theBlueHenmenfinishedthird at the CAA championships in 2010-11, led bythefour-timeCAAchampion400-yardfreestylerelayteam.ItwasalsothefourthstraightyearHaymanledhismen’ssquadto10ormoredualmeetwinsduringtheregularseason.

Bothhismen’sandwomen’steamscompletedsuccess-fulseasonsin2007-08astheBlueHenmenpostedan11-3dualrecordandenjoyedtheirhighestfinisheverattheCAAmeetwithathirdplacefinish.TheBlueHensledbyrecord-settingfreestylesprinterAndrewZinn,capturedthreeCAAtitles-thefirsttitleswonbytheUDmensincejoiningtheleaguein2001-02.Forhisefforts,HaymanwasnamedtheCAAMen’sSwimmingCo-CoachoftheYear.TheDelawarewomenwent12-5indualsandplacedsixthattheCAAmeet.

Under his guidance, the Blue Hens built upon theirsuccessandcontinuedtoshineatthechampionshipmeetduringthe2008-09campaign.ThemencapturedthreeCAAtitlesduringthecompetition,highlightedbyrecord-settingperformancesbyHansGillanandthe400-freestylerelayteam.Gillansetanewstandardinthe100-butterfly,whiletherelayteamsmashedthepreviousconferencerecordwithatimeof2:57.73.

Nottobeoutdone,thewomenalsofinishedstrong,earningeighttop-fivefinishes.CortneyBarryledtheway,placingsecondinboththe500-and1,650-free-style events.The sophomore standout also reachedtheNCAA‘B’standardinbotheventswhilebreakingtheschoolrecordineach.

Atthe2010CAAchampionshipmeet,theBlueHenspickeduprightwheretheyleftoffin2009.Duringthecompetition, Delaware took home four conferencetitles, highlighted by two individual championshipsfromAll-CAAspeedsterHansGillan.Overall,themenfinished 3rd at the meet, while the women placedseventh.FortheireffortsinleadingUD,Gillan,GradyCarter,andRossBuckwalterallwerehonoredas2010Mid-MajorAll-Americans.

Hayman led the Blue Hen women to consecutiveAmericaEastteamtitlesin1996and1997andledtheUDmentoanunprecedentedstreakof fourconfer-ence crowns in 1997, 1998,1999, and 2000. He hascoached26women’sconferencechampions,includingAll-EastfreestylerNancyDavis,andSarahPeffer,who

HaymanwasnamedAmericaEastCoachoftheYearsixtimes,includingfourstraightmen’scoachoftheyear honors in 1997-2000. In 25 years at Delaware,Hayman’sdualmeetrecordis188-94onthewomen’ssideand143-126onthemen’ssideforacombinedmarkof331-220.

Hayman,acertifiedlevelfourswimmingcoachbytheASCA,cametoDelawareafterservingasheadcoachof the men’s and women’s squads at Gannon (Pa.)

University. He led the women’s team to a four-yearrecordof35-21-1including11-winseasonsin1986-87and1988-89whilethemenpostedathree-yearmarkof19-15.

Hisoverallcoachingrecordis223-115-1in29seasonsonthewomen’ssideand162-140in28seasonsonthemen’ssideforacombinedmarkof385-255-1.

A1981healthandphysicaleducationgraduateofWestChesterUniversity,Haymanwasafour-yearletterwin-nerfortheRams,servingascaptainoftheteamasaseniorandsettingsevenschoolrecords.

AftergraduatingfromWestChester,HaymanwenttoSouthernIllinoisUniversitywhereservedasanassis-tantcoachwhileearninghismaster’sdegreeinphysicaleducationandbiomechanicsin1983.

Hayman,aphysicaleducationinstructoratDelaware,residesinBear,Del.withhiswifeTamaraandtheirfourchildren.

Rory C. Coleman, a former All-New England per-formeratKeeneStateandheadcoachMorningsideCollegeinIowafortwoseasons,washiredasthefirst-everfull-timeassistantswimmingcoachinUniversityofDelawarehistorySeptember,2005. ColemanassistsveteranheadcoachJohnHaymanwithboththemen’sandwomen’sprogramandservesastheBlueHens’primaryrecruiter. HewillbeginhisninthseasonontheUDstaffin2013-14.HehasplayedakeyroleinDelaware’sfourstraight(2007-11)thirdplacefinishesattheColonialAthleticAssociationChampionships,markingthehighestfinisheverbytheUDmenatthatmeet. Since his arrival at Delaware, the Blue Hens havecapturedseventopfiveteamfinishesattheCAAcham-pionshipsandwon14conferenceindividualandrelaychampionships. Coleman, a native of Fostoria, Ohio, attended theUniversity of Findlay (Ohio) where he competed inswimmingandclubwaterpolobeforetransferringtoNCAADivisionIIIKeene(N.H.)StateCollege.WhileatKeene,ColemanearnedAll-NewEnglandhonorsasabackstrokespecialist.Hesetsixschoolrecords,estab-lishingmarksinthe50backstroke,100backstroke,100individualmedley,200freestylerelay,200medleyrelay,and400medleyrelay.HeearnedhisdegreeinsocialsciencefromKeenein2000. Heservedoneyearasadmissionscounselor,residentdirector,andcoordinatorofGreekLifeatThielCollegeinGreenville,Pa.beforebeginninghiscoachingcareeratLorasCollegeinDubuque,Iowa.Heservedasgradu-ateassistantswimminganddivingcoachandwasanadjunct facultymember in2001-02.Hecoordinatedrecruitingefforts,assistedinthemanagementoffacili-ties,andtaughtaquaticclassesinthephysicaleduca-tiondepartment.Hecompletedhismaster’sdegreeinphysicaleducationfromLorasin2006. Themen’steam,whichdidnotcompeteinanofficialseasonin2003-04,beganactionin2004-05andwent0-7induals,placed11thattheLiberalArtsConferencemeet,andplaced11thattheNAIAchampionships. WhileatMorningside,healsoservedasaquaticsdi-rector,managedtheaquaticsfacility,trainedlifeguards,co-directedtheMorningsideCollegeAll-SportsCamp,andcoordinatedteamfund-raisingefforts. AresidentofPonteVedraBeach,Fla.,hejoinsDelawareheadcoachJohnHaymanandassistantcoachRoryColemaninwork-ingwithbothBlueHenteamsinallaspectsoftheprogramwhileworkingcloselywiththeteam’ssprinters. Marmolejo(pronounced“mar-ma-lay-ho”)earnedhisdegreeinsportmanagementwithaminorinbusinessandcommunicationsinMay,2009andhismaster’sdegreeinpublicadministrationin2011,bothfromWestVirginiaUniversity.Anoutstandingstudent,heearnedDean’sListhonorsandBigEastAcademicAll-Starhonorsall fouryearsandwasnamedaCSCAAScholarAll-American in2009. He has been a member of the Mexican National SwimmingTeamsince2002andhaswon25nationaltitlesandset15nationalrecordswhilerepresentinghiscountryattheCentralAmericanGames,WorldUniversityGames,FINAWorldChampionships,andattheMexicanOlympicTrials.Heplacedfourthinthe400medleyrelayand11thinthe100butterflyatthe2011PanAmericanGamesandwonasilverandbronzemedalatthe2010CentralAmericanGamesinPuertoRico.HeiscurrentlytheMexicanNationalrecordholderinthe100butterfly(longcourse)and100butterflyand200individualmedley(shortcourse). Marmolejo enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career atWestVirginiaUniversityin2004-09wherehewasatwo-yearteamcap-tainandearnedNCAAhonorablementionAll-Americanhonorsinboth2006and2007.Hewasathree-timeBigEastchampioninthe200butterflyin2005,2006,and2007andsetschoolandconferencerecords in the200butterfly,200 individualmedley,and800freestylerelay.HeearnedtheAlumniScholarshipAwardasthestandoutswimmeroftheseniorclassandwasa10-timeMountaineerAthleteoftheWeek. HebeganhiscoachingcareerwiththeyouthCasablancaSwimClubinMexicoCityin2001-03andhasservedasagraduateas-sistantcoachathisalmamater,WestVirginia,in2009-11andwiththePlanetSwimSchoolinPonteVedraBeach,Fla. Kelly-AynMcKay,aformerstandoutdiveratVirginiaTech,was named the new University of Delaware men’s andwomen’sheaddivingcoachonJuly13,2012. McKay,whoresidesinWilmington,Del.,replacedPeterMetrinko,aformerUDdiverwhoservedinthepart-timerolefornineseasonsbeforeleavingtodevotemoretimetohispositionasanelementaryschoolteacherinNewCastleCounty. “IamexcitedtohaveKelly-Ayn(pronounced“Ann”)joinourstaff,”saidDelawaremen’sandwomen’sswimming&diving head coach John Hayman.“Kelly’s expertise andknowledgeofthesportofdivingwillcertainlyenhanceouroverallswimminganddivingprogramattheUniversityofDelaware.” A native of Middlesex, N.J., McKay earned her degreeinHotel,Restaurant,and InstitutionalManagementfromVirginiaTechin1992.WhileatVirginiaTech,shewasafour-year standout, serving as diving captain three years andcompetingattheNCAATournamentin1990.Shestillholdsaschoolrecordfor11divesonthethree-meterboardwithascoreof431.70. McKayreturnstocoachingforthefirsttimesincethelate1980’swhenshecoachedagegroupteams(ages7-17)inOhio,Indiana,andFloridaandassistedatdivingcampswithsuccessfulcoachessuchasStanRandall,HobieBillingsley,andPatGreenwell. “Ithinkwe’vegotthelargestgroupofincomingfreshmendiversinhistoryjoiningourmen’s&women’sprogramthisfall,”saidMcKay.“Iamtrulylookingforwardtoagreatsea-sonworkingwithsomeoutstandingstudent-athletesandhelpingtobuilddepth,camaraderie,andteamspirit.” McKay worked in catering sales and operations in theWashington,DCandPhiladelphiaareasbeforeoperatingRiverfrontAudioVisualfrom2003-08.ShewasDirectorofSalesandMarketingforCulinaryConceptsinPhiladelphiafrom2009-11. Since 2002, she has served as owner and operator ofWilmington-basedi720media,aboutiquemarketing,de-signandconsultingfirmknownforcreatingfocusedonlineexperiencesandprovidingspecialeventssupportservices.
