How much work should I be expecting? As State President, your amount of work does exceed the other state officer. Every month varies as some months are packed with important events and others a less intense period. Be prepared to dedicate at least 3-4 hours every week towards FBLA responsibilities and if you manage your time well, it should not be a workload you cannot handle. What are some specific duties required of a state president?Every month, the state president is required to write the Tenth of the Month Report and inform the Board of Trustees of what is going on in our organization. The president is also responsible for many other side assignments that gear towards leading the state officer team better.

QUESTIONS I HAD WHEN RUNNING

Page 6: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

My favorite part about being a FBLA State Officer is that it gives me a chance to stand out and become a better leader. So many instances require an officer to become a better leader that this entire experience is just an amazing leadership training session. I truly believed that I could make a huge difference in this organization and I continue to work hard to make my goals become realities. If anyone possesses the dedication and leadership abilities to make Nevada FBLA a better organization, there should be nothing stopping them from making a difference.

How much money is it going to cost me if elected? Nevada FBLA is very generous and invests money into making the state officer team great. They pay for meals while on trips and reimburse for mileage when traveling. Your only major cost is the accessories for the State Officer Uniform (ties, shirt, etc.) What are national conference going to be like campaigning and how much will that cost? NLC is the most amazing time ever! Campaigning takes a lot of hard work and dedication, and it is much more intense than campaigning for State Office. The campaigns are limited to $2,000 but finding sponsors is a great way to fund your campaign!

QUESTIONS I HAD WHEN RUNNING

Page 15: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

How much traveling is involved?Multiple times throughout the year, the State Officers will be traveling throughout Nevada and the nation. However, the Vice President of Membership in particular should be the role model for chapter visits, and as a result, expect to drive many miles throughout the course of your time in office. When I give my speech, what will it be like? It’s an incredible experience. You stand, on stage, with the white spotlight on you as you look out onto a crowd of your peers who are waiting to hear all about what you have to offer Nevada FBLA. It’s here that you have the chance to express why you are the best candidate for the office you are running for.

QUESTIONS I HAD WHEN RUNNING

Page 16: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

It is not possible, as a high school student, to receive a better training in leadership, teamwork, etiquette, mannerism, hard work, diligence, responsibility, resourcefulness, and stick-to-itiveness, than in Nevada FBLA. Being a state officer has helped me not only improve upon my own character, but has also given me the knowledge and skills to help those around me.  It’s a trick question.  My entire experience as a State Officer is my favorite part, from the state coaches, to the Officer Team, and especially those who make up Nevada FBLA. However, if I had to put my finger on it, my favorite part of FBLA is the lessons I have learned through determination and hard work as a Nevada FBLA state officer.

QUESTIONS I HAD WHEN RUNNING

Page 21: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

My favorite part of being a State Officer is being able to interact with more FBLA members and plan events throughout the year. I love meeting our fellow FBLA members and thus, it is definitely a great experience to be a State Officer. It really opened up my world of connections. Being able to work closely with March of Dimes is definitely another one of my favorite parts of being a State Officer. To be able to serve an organization that helps premature babies is just wonderful.

Do you get free time at conference? At many conferences you have a lot of free time with a lot of great state officers. Some of the best time I've ever spent at a conference has been with the State Officer Team. I enjoy the time I got to spend with my friends, new members, and State Officers.

QUESTIONS I HAD WHEN RUNNING

Page 26: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

My favorite part of being a State Officer is meeting so many great people from all around. I get to mingle with new members and I have created great bonds with my teammates. The time you get to spend with extraordinary people is unmatched and the best part of being a State Officer.

DUTIES OF THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF PUBLIC RELATIONS

Page 30: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

My favorite part of being a State Officer is being able to share my experiences. It’s one thing to achieve something you’ve worked so hard for, but it’s completely different when you are able to inspire others. Whether you’re the first State Officer at your school, or you’re carrying on your school’s legacy; it’s a phenomenal experience. I enjoy meeting every one of the members, but my favorite part was being able to go home and write a reflection or a blog post about the event.

FAVORITE PART OF BEING A STATE OFFICER

Page 31: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

How much work would be involved? As the Vice President of Public Relations, you have a pretty large work load. Although you have large work load, management is great at giving you time to balance FBLA and school work so you won’t be stressed. Also, when running for State Office, you should have a passion for FBLA. The work load that is given to you will be enjoyable because you are able to write about something you truly have a passion for.  What examples should be given for this position? This position focuses a lot on writing and promoting through graphics. I personally recommend submitting newsletters because they incorporate a bit of graphics then you’re writing. You can submit a piece of your writing and flyers. If you have any other questions, you can always email the [email protected]

Page 34: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

My absolute favorite part of being a State Officer is bonding and growing as a team. I never thought I’d be this close to people that live hundreds of miles away from me. I have created life-long friends. On the days that I feel minuscule or misunderstood I always know that I can turn to my team. They understand my goal-oriented personality more than any other person. It’s nice having people around you that you know you can trust. I’ve never had a doubt with any officer on my team. They have changed my life for the better.

FAVORITE PART OF BEING A STATE OFFICER

Who will oversee my development as a State Officer, if elected? The State Management Team and a State Officer Coach will work with the State Officer Team to help train them and help them accomplish the goals set in the Program of Work. What should I expect from the experience?Expect to work hard and gain valuable leadership skills every day that you are an officer. The workload is completely manageable as long as you learn to balance FBLA with other aspects of your life. You will face challenges, but you will overcome them through hard work and persistence. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!

QUESTIONS I HAD WHEN RUNNING

Page 36: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

“Being a State Officer isn’t about having power or status; it’s about serving those who elected you and proving to yourself that you can go above and beyond what you ever

thought you could achieve.”

FAVORITE PART OF BEING A STATE OFFICER

My favorite part of being a State Officer is being able to meet all sorts of new and interesting people. Being a State Officer has allowed me to build my networking skills by always being exposed to those who are the best and the brightest in their field.

Page 39: 2012 2013 Nevada FBLA State Officer Candidate Show

What is campaigning like?Campaigning for office is one of the most stressful, but best experiences you will have as a State Officer, whether you win or lose. You have the chance to reach out and meet so many new people and share with them your ideas for this organization. You spend an entire day talking to new people and creating new connections. If you take away only one thing as a state officer, it will be the connections you have made with so many people, and it is while campaigning that you create so many of these connections.

What is the best part of the job? I love getting to network with all the people that we are introduced to. Because I was placed into the situations where I’d have to converse with complete strangers I knew I had to act confident and break down my walls I had built to “protect” myself or I would look like a fool. I discovered that not only can I socialize without putting shame to my name but I also am quite good at it. I enjoy every minute of meeting new people. By experiencing many different personalities I have become a more outgoing, better-rounded person

QUESTIONS I HAD WHEN RUNNING

The best part of being a State Officer for me is meeting so many people, and then from there being able to serve them. It is amazing to be able to do something bigger for the organization that you love, and to be able to change it into something even better than it already is.
