Matilda Mossman

Western Kentucky, 1979

Head Coach

Second Season

Matilda Mossman is in her second season at The University of Tulsa after guiding her first team to 13 wins, the most for the Golden Hurricane since the 2006 season. Mossman was appointed as the head women’s basket-ball coach on March 22, 2011. In 10 years as a collegiate head coach, Mossman has registered an overall 166-118 record. She had a 67-27 mark at Arkansas (1981-84), an 80-66 mark at Kansas State (1984-89), and a 19-25 record in two seasons at Tulsa. In 19 years as a head coach, Mossman has compiled a 360-173 record for a .675 winning percentage. She has served as a head col-legiate coach for 10 years, while coaching on the high school level for nine seasons. In her first season at the helm, Mossman took a team that had earned just five wins, including one Conference USA victory, in the previous year to a team that posted 13 wins and finished league play with an 8-8 record. TU’s 13 victories and sixth-place league fin-ish was the best since the Golden Hurricane advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2006. Under Mossman junior Taleya Mayberry earned first-team All-Conference USA mer-its, while sophomore Taylor Hooker conclud-ed the season ranked 19th nationally in steals per game. Prior to her appointment, Mossman served as the head basketball coach at Norman High School from 2002-11, where her teams compiled an overall 191-53 record for a .796 winning percentage. Her teams qualified for the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association (OSSAA) Class 6A state tourna-ment in the last eight of her nine seasons at NHS, and won eight straight regional championships. Mossman led Norman High School to the state title in 2005, and a runner-up performance in 2010. She was named the conference coach of the year three times, while earning regional and district coach of the year accolades twice. Mossman earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1979 and her gradu-ate degree in education in 1980, both from Western Kentucky. She has two sons, Scott, 25, and Matt, 21.
