95th
Dear Red Cross Donor,
Thank you for supporting your Coastal Bend-Texas Chapter and helping us celebrate our 95th Anniversary serving the Coastal Bend!
On September 19, 1916, the Nueces County Chapter of the American Red Cross was established in Corpus Christi, Texas. While our name,
location and jurisdiction have changed over the years, we have continued fulfilling our humanitarian mission of providing relief to victims of
disaster and helping people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Growing with a new name change and improved locations over the years, the chapter is now a Regional Chapter known as the Coastal
Bend-Texas Chapter and is located at 1721 S. Brownlee Boulevard, Corpus Christi, Texas. The chapter serves the residents of Aransas, Bee,
Brooks, Duval, Jim Hogg, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio and San Patricio counties. As a Regional Chapter, the
Coastal Bend-Texas Chapter also provides support to the Crossroads, Rio Colorado and South Texas Chapters in Victoria, Bay City, and Har-
lingen, TX
Throughout our 95 years, this region has experienced numerous disasters both large and small. These include: the 10 foot tidal wave of
1919, a hurricane in 1946, Hurricane Carla in 1961, Hurricane Celia in 1970, Hurricane Allen in 1980, Hurricane Bret in 1999, and the Texas
Floods of 2007. In addition there have been numerous local tornadoes, house and apartment fires, floods and even a refinery explosion. In 2005
our area also assisted over 1,000 Hurricane Katrina evacuees. Over the years the Coastal Bend-Texas Chapter has been called upon to lend sup-
port in national events such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001 and the Haiti Earthquake of 2010.

Letter to our donors
As a nongovernmental agency, the American Red Cross relies
very heavily on the generosity of the financial contributors who support
and help the Coastal Bend-Texas Chapter to continue accomplishing our
mission. In addition to our valued donors, the chapter also appreciates
the volunteers, staff, media and public service offices that work together
to spread our mission throughout the Coastal Bend.
Thank you for your continued support, your continued
support is absolutely vital to our community.
Services
Disaster Services
Red Cross Disaster Services
function on a local and
nationwide basis. Locally, they
respond to single and
multi-family fires, floods,
tornadoes, transportation
accidents, chemical spills,
hurricanes, and other disasters.
During a national large scale
disaster, volunteers are sent
across the United States to help assist other Red Cross
chapters in the recovery process. All Red Cross
volunteers are trained to provide families with their
immediate disaster-related emergency needs, and help
them on their way to recovery.
Health & Human Safety
Every year, the Coastal Bend-Texas
Chapter trains numerous new
instructors to go out and teach the
community courses in CPR, First
Aid, AED, Babysitting, Wilderness
Remote First Aid, Disaster Training,
and Lifeguard and Water Safety.
Teaching the community Health and
Human Safety promotes our mission
of helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to
emergencies.
Service to the Armed Forces The centerpiece of our
services to the military
is the delivery of
emergency messages to
and from military
personnel and their
immediate families.
Under its 1905 Con-
gressional Charter, the Red Cross is the sole agency
designated to provide emergency communications for
the U.S. military. We send messages in the event of a
birth, death, illness, financial or any other family crisis.
Community Outreach The Community Outreach Program
of the Coastal Bend-Texas Chapter
is very influential in helping us to
fulfill our mission of helping people
to prepare for emergencies. Every
year, thousands of residents are
given lessons on disaster
preparedness, water safety and
proper hygiene through community
classes, health & safety fairs and educational lessons
for children in grade school.

Chapter Event: Red Cross Bash
March is Red Cross month, and every year we celebrate it with our signature fundraiser the Red Cross BASH. It is a military-inspired event that transforms our venue into a re-creation of a military medical unit, complete with camouflage, Jeeps, parachutes, “The swamp” and more.
